Wicked and Special,

Thanks for setting up this new community. I love the design and the choice of photos, especially pics #3 and #7 in the header. I also love that you included the TDAT pics.

Best of luck! I know that I'll be frequenting this blog often.

I posted this on WWW. How can I get a blogger id? I have to create a blogger account? Or do i just have to enter a name below each time I post? Thanks!

Special K said...

You can sign up for a blogger account if you want just follow the login link at the top of the page to set one up.

OR

You can choose other and give yourself a name. Either the same one each time or try different one on for size till you find one that fits just right for you.

Hi Wicked and Special K.

Thanks for setting up this community. I've just read your welcome and mission posts and it sounds like it's gonna be fantastic. Plus it looks great - love the pictures!

Wicked said...

Folks, we would love to hear feedback from people about comment moderation and not having anons. We took a lot of time to come to these decisions and would love to know what you all think.
Personally, I would love it if you all would get Blogger IDs so we wouldn't have to worry about moderation, but that may not be what folks want to do. One thing you should all know about a Blogger ID- you can change your Blogger display name (that appears with your posts) as often as you want. Maybe that will motivate some of you! :)

Anonymous said...

I like anything that get rid of the trolls!!! I want a blogger ID wicked but when I try they ask me data for a blog like http address and name of the blog and I just want to get a name for myself to post here.

Wicked said...

Ready for a Blogger Name- well, you're right they do ask you what the blog will be called. But you don't have to do anything with the blog you set up. When I first set up my Blogger ID, I just wanted it to be able to post on sites too, not to have my own blog. (Now I have two blogs, but that's another story!) You just make up a name for your blog and do nothing with the blog. That's what I did. I've been on Blogger since 11/06 and have only been doing anything with my blog since June. I just used the Blogger ID to sign in and post. You can actually do that if you want. Blogger won't threaten you or hurt or anything.

Florida Tom said...

I've just created my own Blog. I gave it a name and everything. Might be fun.

Anonymous said...

I love what you've done with the new site, and great find Special re the race.

Anonymous said...

Yes, but even the uber troll can create a blog site, get a name and drag his particularly smelly kind of garbage here. Then just disappear only to resurface under another name. So, everyone having a blue name to post under won't keep the hyeneas away.

Not trying to be a spoil sport, just thought that should be mentioned.

Special K said...

ME

Yes they can, but it is a couple more steps to getting to post here that way and even then they leave a trail like a snail behind.

We will try our best to keep the trolls at bay.

Remember like Gremlins, 1) Keep it away from bright light, 2) Don't get any water on it, and 3) Never, never ever feed it after midnight. Or anytime for that matter.

Our hope is that the community that grows here is greater than mischeif any troll can create.

OK - I created a blogger ID. Just had to come try it out. I'm all for anything that helps minimize trollery (is that a word?).

Anyway, off to watch the season finale of JFC.

Anonymous said...

Love this new sight, thanks so much.

Wicked said...

ME- yup, you are right. But I do agree with Special, it will create more work for him. If someone is going to troll, I want to make it as hard as possible for him to do it. Everyone having a blue name to post under will not keep the hyenas away but it will force everyone to post under a some kind of name with no anons and no need for comment moderation! :) Let's try to minimize the trollery here! Blue Velvet, you really do need to trademark that one!

Blue Velvet and Tom- love the names of your blogs!

just want to see if this works..

Austin looked so hot in tonight's episode of JFC, love him so much better with some hair on his forehead. I will have to watch the show again as I'm not sure what to make of it all, although it felt more like the setup for a season we may never get. I loved John and Shaun surfing.

Austin was so HOT in tonight's episode of JFC, loved the curl of hair on his forehead and the jeans. I'll have to watch this again because I'm not sure what to make of it, except for the themes of community and forgiving yourself that have been part of other episodes. I did think it felt more like a setup for another season, which we may never get, rather than having a sense of closure.

Ok I've been a good girl and set up my blogsite. It's called austingoodies and I'll let you know if I ever do anything with it.

Anonymous said...

Just clambering aboard your new ship, wicked and Special. I'm going with my middle id at WFT since "pre-cog" didn't produce any new pics (yet) ...

Anonymous said...

Sorry for the double post, I didn't see the notice about waiting for approval and thought I had lost my post. I'll set up a blogger id tonight. Love the name of your blogsite AG, the thought of Austin's goodies is putting a big smile on my face.

Wicked said...

Destiny, Austingoodies put a big smile on my face too! Thanks for setting up an ID, AG!

Good to see you, Scylla!

If anyone is having any trouble setting up a Blogger ID, let us know. We can help. I'm really feeling like this moderating impedes conversation. Plus, I know I like to see my comment post after I write it. What do you all think? Or do you guys want to allow anons here?

Blue Velvet said...

Wicked, I have to agree that the moderating impedes conversation. Maybe you should accept unmoderated posts, but encourage everyone to take a name and to be careful before answering any anonymous posts. The key is to have people recognize trollery when they see it so that they can ignore it. Isn't the moderating a lot of extra work for both you and Special? I think if we're to become a community we should learn to moderate ourselves. If things get out of hand you can always go back to the moderated blog format.

Wicked said...

Blue Velvet, well, we could enable anonymous comments but say we strongly encourage everyone to take a name here. Your point about if we're going to become a community we need to moderate ourselves is well taken. What does everyone else think?

Special K said...

We want this to have the flow and feeling of a real community for everyone. Our main goal creating OMG is community. Community Community Community.

I am, and I know Wicked is open to all suggestions and view points about posting. If it looks like people want to be more open, we can try it and see. We might have to go back to moderate comments or required ID's to post if things get out of hand but it is a learning experience for all of us. We are learning right along with you. We want to learn things together.

It think if we do consistently encourage people to find an identity, even for a post or a day or a week or permanently, it is one step closer in cutting down on trolls and trollish behaviors.

I think we need to come together as a community and make a commitment not to feed the trolls or jump into a steel cage death match with them.

Yes it is a hard thing to do, especially alone. But maybe as community effort it will be easier.

Together as a community we can do great things.

Wicked said...

And if anyone in this community knows how to make the MP3 player on this blog actually WORK, please be in touch. You don't want to know how many hours I have spent on that thing and it STILL isn't working! Rrrrrr!

Great scoop on the running pics. It's already posted at ONTD and getting a lot of love.

Article about Jake (and R) slipping off of the A-List

Any thoughts? I don't agree with some of the article but I do think it's very easy to fall off the list if you don't show that you can open a movie with very good box-office numbers. Personally I think Jake would be better off if he didn't have to worry about maintaining his so-called leading man image. There's one line in there that I thought was pretty interesting considering the J&R publicity: "What would it take for Gyllenhaal to remain on the A-List (and not slide into ensemble hell)? A high-profile romance might. An Oscar-worthy performance might. But Gyllenhaal is interested in neither at this point". Evidently the writer isn't putting much stock in Jeese.

I am divided on the anonymous posting issue. In addition to the troll problem, many of the anon posters (who may or may not be the trolls) attack other posters rather than engaging in a real discussion, and I think posters would be less inclined to do that if they had to post under a name. I also wonder how many anons there really are, sometimes it seems like it is just a few people, and I think it has contributed to the lack of posts by some of the oldtimers at WFT. I would hate to see the same thing happen here. But not all of the anons are like that. I don't know why these people don't use a name, although I suspect with most posters it is just laziness or not wanting to bother coming up with a name. But because of the nature of the site with people talking about LGBT issues, etc., some people may just be afraid that it will hurt them somehow.

All that being said, I lean a bit more towards preferring that people use names. After all, in a real community people do go by some kind of name. For example, everyone on the JFC thread at HBO uses a name. Alternatively, maybe for now, if it is not a lot of work for you Wicked and Special, is to hold up on anonymous posts until approved. People who want to engage right away are free to do so by using a name, and it might just encourage people to develop that habit. Part of me is afraid that if you open the anon floodgates that it will just be a troll fest.

Anonymous said...

I like the Anon posting system - I think otherwise many interesting voices are shut out... Maybe you could just have Anon-Delay, as Destiny suggested?

Anonymous said...

The A List article is interesting. If they consider Reese is falling off of it, that could give another good reason why she would be prepared to beard.

RE Moderation. Yes it does impede the flow of conversation but I also think you don't want the headache of having to delete posts.
Dany at WFT does it very effectively but the post has already appeared and people have seen it. Even when you get there after the fact, you can just tell something has spoiled the mood by the posts following it.

It's the Anons who I believe cause the most chaos as Destiny has said above me because they don't have a name.

As for trolls, they are always going to go wherever they feel they can cause trouble. So you'll get your fair share like every blog owner. We're ready for them.

So I think you should ask everyone to use a name, state that anything posted anonymously will automatically be deleted and take off the moderation for a trial period and see how it goes.

Wicked said...

After talking at length today and receiving much feedback, Spesh and I have decided to stop moderating comments and to allow anons. I have re-worked our Welcome statement to explain this decision. I hope everyone will read it. Please give us feedback about this. We want to hear from you.

In Ted's Mail Bag Today:

Dear Ted:
When are you going to start reporting about Reese and Jake's reconciliation? You can't say there is no photographic evidence anymore. It's time to join the Reese & Jake party—we want to know what's going on there!
Jeff
Los Angeles

Dear Het Bet:
Lemme guess. You also want more gab on Rachel Bilson ’n’ Hayden Christensen, too, right?

*********

Dear Ted:
I, for one, am growing tired of the Toothy Tile saga. Why should we continue to follow when we know we will never learn the true identity of the faceless shadow?
Tom
Mt. Laurel, New Jersey

Dear Pissed:
No worries, doll. If Toothy finds the cojones to finally out his bum-lovin’ tush, then maybe I won’t have to keep torturing everybody. Stay taut-tushed tuned.

Wicked said...

You think it means that Ted actually thinks TT will come out? Or is he just stringing us along?

Special K said...

OMG! Tom is that your letter to Ted?

Special K said...

Seriously Ted is not even subtle about Jake anymore.

Wicked said...

I have Tom on the phone right now. It's his letter!

Blue Velvet said...

"Seriously Ted is not even subtle about Jake anymore."

I wonder why he feels he can be so blatant? That's the one thing that always makes me think that he is very sure about his basic TT info. I still think he embellishes a bit for entertainment purposes.

Anonymous said...

Wow! Tom got a letter through to Ted, Cool. I've been trying for two years...

Blue Velvet said...

Congrats, Tom! It's not easy getting Ted to choose one of your letters. Have you ever written to him before?

I'm pissed! That bastard has never printed any of MY letters!

Special K said...

Sorry Wicked, come and sit by me at the table. LOL!!

The Jake on the Run, is getting credited to IHJ everywhere. Oh well, what can you do. At least we got a new pic.

Florida Tom said...

OMG I am friggin famous. When Wicked called at this time of night I knew it was big. I thought Ted probably had answered a telling letter. I never thought in a million years he would would answer my letter. I wrote the letter about two weeks ago when Ted has posted three letters that bascially revealed nothing. I told Wicked I was upset and wondered why Ted was keeping us all hanging.
I have to say Ted did not change my letter at all. What he printed is exactly the words I wrote. I feel really good. I know the letter is a little critical of Ted but I was just wondering where he was taking us all.

I would like to thank Ted for answering my letter. I will save it forever and share it with all my friends at home at on OMG and WFT.

Florida Tom said...

the letter is from all of us. I want to share it with everyone.

Wicked said...

Tom, if you were a real pal, you'd make him answer one of my letters!

That is so cool Tom! I wonder if he has any idea that you post on WFT. So Ted only answered one question about TT, so much for his possibly wrapping up his questions this week, guess he's going to drag this out.

And I'm sorry to see you didn't get credit Special for the running pix as you were clearly the one who found them.

I was going to say something about JFC.

Milch is known for incorporating things around him into his script. I found it very interesting that he named the other Stinkweed exec -- Jake.

The character was introduced after the great trailer game a thon.

Milch likes Austin a lot, I wonder if it was his way of acknowledging Austin's relationship with Jake in some way?

Anonymous said...

Wow, what a nasty rant against JFC that TVGuide piece disguised as a review is.

Anonymous said...

oh, good - I thought cause it was Tv Guide it was official; glad it's not.

Special and Wicked, your mission statement rocks.

Here's to many happy anniversaries on this here blog.

Anonymous said...

HBO site sounds more official now about JfC cancellation :(

I wonder how Austin feels about it? His reviews have been good to great at least.

Anonymous said...

Oh bummer. I hope that Austin gets some great jobs now because of this role.
I think he got more positives out of it too in a personal way.
I think it showed him he could play a more in depth character.

On a purely selfish note, I hope it leads to him doing far more variety of roles and us getting to see more of him, not being tucked away in San Diego all the time.

Blue Velvet said...

Too bad about JFC. I really loved the show. I read that Milch is still contracted to HBO and is supposed to work on some new series for them. Since Milch likes to work with actors he knows, Austin may score a new role. It would be nice if he got cast in a hit HBO series.

Here's an interesting interview with Milch that explains some of the JFC mysteries (spoilers included)

Wicked said...

Blue Velvet- thanks for that interview link. I love Gabriel Garcia Marquez and thought the comparison of JFC to his 100 Years of Solitude to be quite apt.

Anonymous said...

I would like to have a word on behalf of anonymous posters: WFT has felt like a community to me although people have been able to post anonymously. I have read WFT since the spring of 2006 and have only posted anonymously. It has been nice that people have responded seriously even to anonymous posts. (Maybe this is no longer the case to the same extent it used to be?)

Personally I haven't wanted to take a name because I'm a bit cautious about putting personal information online and also because I don't really post very often. It seems a bit sad that the anons have to take the blame for the troll troubles on WFT, when the anons have always been an important part of discussions there.

Special K said...

Anon 10:00

You don't have to make your name personal at all. If you choose OTHER you can give yourself any kind of name for the post, for the hour, for the day, for the week. But it is nice to put an name to well thought comments.

Many who have stopped by started with WFT right from the beginning. And I wouldn't be surprised if you asked, most of us would say we started with Anon and then gave ourself a name.

I hope that you would consider giving yourself a name. Maybe just call yourself Careful and Cautious.
Maybe call yourself Not Very Often.

But we extend our welcome to you and hope that you will come by and say hi often.

Wicked said...

Anon 10:00- although most trolls post as anons, most anons are not trolls. Your point is well taken. We don't want to run the risk of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
I want to be clear that we are creating a different type of community here, where we do encourage but do not require, people to post with names. We want to be knowable to each other.
This community is not WFT, nor is it designed to take its place. We are doing soemthing different. Some will like it, some will not. Some may post at both OMG and WFT, some only here, some only there. I'm posting at both. They're different sites with different ways of doing things. The internet's a big place, I think there's room for both.
We welcome anyone who wants to post here.

Anonymous said...

I agree anons should post but moderation is a really good idea.

WFT was a amicable place with a good vibe until the same old troll kept trying to derail it. I don't have any problem with dissention but that was just hanging around to cause trouble and contribut zero constructive arguments.

So yeah, some form of moderation would be good. Regular readers will understand the time lapse between comments if it means not having threads destroyed every time by that sicko.
