It looks like that grin was there from the beginning. Even then Jake seems to light up when he's with Austin.
Everyone always talks about the wiping down video from The Day After Tomorrow, but I think the captures here are just as telling. Of course the scene is that they are running to beat the ice racing behind them, but Jake doesn't look like he is worried in the least. In fact, he looks like he is loving every minute of working on this scene. And who wouldn't if you got to have such a cutie in a clench. And he is hanging on tight.
It is obvious that both were quite smitten on the set. In some ways, it seem like they didn't even realize how obvious they were about their attraction for the other. The entire cast and crew must have known they were falling hard.
What is so special is that they still have the same look for each other after all these years, in fact it has only grown over time.

For me, one of the most telling signs in TDAT is that mini interview Austin did... he talked about Jake almost in every questions:
What did he do for fun during film? - cooking with Jake (the whole chicken mixed with everything thing). What the most difficult part? - Jake making faces at him and cracked him up... Jake this and Jake that....
If that doesn't sound like a crush, I don't know what else :)

Wonderful post! I never get tired to repeat as much as it is romantic TDAT for Jake&Austin and as much as he makes me like get back there often, because it is also never enough. During this moment of the film they have very much concentrated, but that on gripping one to the other is so striking.... shivers.... Absolutely I love when, after they have removed the embrace, they rejoin themselves. So sweet! Thanks for reminding us that *________*

Now please tell me, when I watched TDAT, it seemed that Jake reached the library not carrying Austin but his other costar (the very smart black guy with glasses). Did my eyes cheated me?
Frenchy, I had to rewatch the scene because I wasn't sure, but Jake is definitely carrying Austin the whole time.
The two of them rush into the library and Arjay (the other costar) is the one who closes the door before it completely freezes over.
The filming of TDAT took almost 8 months. I bet they spent at least 7 of them just teasing and flirting with each other. I mean, they couldn't even contain themselves while they were supposed to be acting according to Austin.
And I really have to agree with Special, it's amazing they were able to keep those smiles they have for each other.
It's been five years and they've had a lot of up and downs during that time and yet Jake still had the same happy Austin smile on Regis & Kelly.
You guys are making me want to watch TDAT again, it's been awhile. And by that I mean the abbreviated, fast-forward through anything without Jake or Austin version.

Spooky`s video sure is lovely. When you see the movie everything happens so fast, so, very nice to see the scenes when they are freezed. I especially like the scene when Austin is giving Jake a warm smile when his character tells Sam to tell Laura how he feels:)(The one after J.D had tried reach his brother on the phone.)

-so much for good acting: If you had asked me, i would say Austin wasn`t that good of an actor at that time. I really think he had a hard time hiding his attraction to Jake during those scenes. BUT, i think he has been growing a lot. I watched most of the episodes of JFC and think he did a very good job. I think he`s matured A LOT as an actor since TDAT. Just my opinion.

I agree with NG that acting-wise TDAT Austin and JFC Austin are practically two different persons, in a very good sense of course, even though movies like these are not exactly the best vehicle for actors to show us what they're truly capable of

I've been wondering about Perez' mention of Jake and Austin in that post he did about Chace Crawford yesterday. He hasn't mentioned J&A in eons. I found it odd.
Just checked all these TDAT clips and saved those who were not already on my playlists. My, it's always a surprise to see how much they've changed in just a couple of years. They look so insanely sweet and boyish in that movie. :)

While saving clips at Youtube I noticed that one of the BBM interviews Jake gave, to an Italian journalist in that case, is now "unavailable". It was originally listed under the title "Intervista a Jake Gyllenhall, attore in Brokeback Mountain".
If you've watched it, you'll remember this was one of the greatest interviews Jake gave about the film.
Does anybody know if it's been put under another title or if it's available elsewhere online? I would love to be able to watch it again.
Frenchy, that's why I brought it up. Perez has really seemed to be drinking the Jeese juice lately. No saying anything on his blog to suggest he thinks the relationship is anything other than real or that Jake is anything other than straight. And then that comment. It's odd.
I read recently that Perez won a multi-million case against Samantha Ronson. Maybe this is farfetched but do you think he might suddenly feel secure enough to go back to his old ways? Aren't there still cases pending with pap agencies?

As for the acting in TDAT: I don't think anyone was particularly good. I was never emotionally invested in any of the storylines or characters for even one minute. The script and actors seemed like they were just there as an excuse for the special effects. But I'm not complaining... without TDAT there'd probably be no J&A. I still love watching their scenes together. :)

Saw a post that Reeke is having in law troubles. Maggie does not like her (smart girl) and Jake complains that R's mom is always around so they cant be alone. (Way to go Mom). Cant recall the site, saw it while at work. Maybe this is the beginning of the end. The commenters as usual all said fake, showmance, come on out Jake.

Forgot to mention on the topic of TDAT. There is a photo of Jake having a birthday on set. He is at a cake blowing out candles. The guests appear to be in front of him, all but Austin. Always thought it significant that Austin was behind him, apart from the rest. The crew and cast had to know there was something between them.

These new sightings read as generally credible to me. However, I do have to wonder why it seems that everywhere (restaurants, garages, aquariums) Jeese went they were not papped but were seen by someone who posted it on the internet.
The SF Chronicle sounds believeable to me as well - the second one doesn't even make sense, so no. I was curious as to how the family members would respond to a fauxmance, and it doesn't sound like it's going over well, if that gossip post can be believed. Most couples go through these adjustment things with in-laws, etc., so more that sounds like more fuel for the faux fire. Where are the even blurry pics?
But, que sera, sera ;) the initial shock of someone going to this length has worn off now, it's just a big *yawn* at this point. It's not something I should be concerning myself with. I'm only interested in their work.

Jake and Reese are photographed everywhere. If the paps could put a camera in his toilet, they would.
None of the reported sightings have been picked up, and/or substantiated, by the major, slime-ball gossip/photo blogs. It's only been mentioned in the creepy, smaller blogs.
Which means that the smaller blogs are not reporting a sighting; they are simply repeating what other smaller blogs have reported.
Herein lies the paradox : the more unsubstantiated, small blog sightings there are, the less likely it is that anything actually happened. This is the inverse law of publicity.
This dribble/drabble always makes Jake look unprofessional (leaving the set of a movie when he should be rehearsing or preparing), needy (and he goes to her set - why can't she go to his? and he goes to her house - why can't she go to his?), and manipulative (perfectly timed for the Vaughn/Witherspoon on-screen kiss). But I guess it's easier to sell a flaky, needy, manipulative straight male actor than a self-confident bi/gay male actor with integrity.

There were paps all over NAPA, outside of SF, when Reeke made their last staged vacation appearance. The pap presence in SF isn't as intense as it is in LA, but there are tons of paps in SF. If Reeke was sighted *four* times in SF, someone outside of Joe the valet, Sam the restaurant spy or Cindy the aquarium afficionado would have seen them.

Orbison, SF full of paps? At the SF Aquarium?I have been there so many times there are no paps. There are no paps around I live and work in the city, paps might show up if there is some big event but not otherwise. You got to be kidding.
The paps in Napa: there are usually no paps in Napa that's why I am pretty sure those pics were staged, not to mention we were told before hand it would happen.
There usually might be no paps in SF, but we know they were there on the weekend that Jake was supposedly in SF. They took the pictures of Reese and Vince kissing on Friday, the same day Reeke were supposed to have been hanging out in a garage with the kids.
And if we believe the sightings then Reeke were out eating at Zumi and A16 on Thursday. That's a lot of restaurants in one day, even for those two.
I just find it way too convenient all the sightings are starting to pop up now. And right after Reese and Vince kissing and on the weekend that Austin has wrapped The Informers.
People have been doubting that Jake was even there and suddenly we hear on Tuesday what Reeke did Thursday last week from a somewhat more "credible" source? 5 days later? That's an awful long delay for a sighting of someone as famous as Reese. Throw Jake in and it's even stranger it took that long.
I stand by my opinion that Jake wasn't even there and until there are pictures proving he was, I won't believe it. Not with all these "coincidences" surrounding this supposed little visit.
I've never seen a paparazzi in SF, or Napa, ever. Maybe if there is some big event that pulls a few stars, they may show up, but even then I cant think of a time so if there were any, it must have been a very small number. They filmed Zodiac in SF with Robert Downey and Jake and no paps showed. Paps would have to be summoned for sure.
I give some credibility to the Chronicle, but the sightings are phoned in so may not be any more reliable than these obscure blogs.
The worst part about Reeke has always been that it makes Jake look bad. He doesn't even look hot and sexy lately. His posture and demeanor have drained the sexy out. He had it the week he saw Austin in NY though.
I hate dealing with the issue but a few minutes ago, on Entertainment news italy, announced that Jake and Reese have formalized their relationship. I lost something? Anything is really an officer?
