TimberJake

Trends come from Hollywood and this one seems to catching on. The scruffy LumberJake is taking off !

How could it not with the JT now jumping on the bandwagon. Seems like just yesterday he was doing more the Austy vesting, but now he's mad for plaid.

You wonder if JT is just being the kind boyfriend and getting Jessica ready for shooting with Jake starting next week. You know too much plaid too quickly can be overwhelming. Or maybe Jessica just likes the whole plaid thing already.

But it comes down to who wore it better? And I 'm not only talking about the shirt.

Plaid- the official uniform of the fauxmance. Don't beard without it!

It's sooo butch. JT and Jessica are wearing it far better. They at least seem to be real friends enjoying themselves.

Kacie, yes I do think J & A are still together. I think Jake is living a full life outside of the view of the world and without Reese, whenever he chooses. Afterall he played a pick up game of basketball, suffered an injury requiring significant medical attention and not one word about who was with him or where it happened leaked out. It reminded me a bit of the xmas fire. Someone else was there with Jake, but any news of him just vanished. Both stories buttoned up tight as a drum.

I am pretty caught up now on all the comments. Dont want to drag people back into old items, but I was struck by that photo of Jake with Boo in TX. He did not display the Austin smile, but there is an unguardedness about him, a look he gets only around Austin. Childlike, like we are seeing the real Jake. I wish we knew more about that photo.

Both bags look bulky, awkward and heavy. And too shiny. Esp the bottom one, the natural texture of the material has been smoothed out and polished so much that it looks totally like plastic. The top one looks more natural.

The top one is more rounded, seems more comfortable to wear while the bottom one is awfully square and looks like it has sharp corners.

I'm not crazy about the chain in the top one but at least it's pretty long. The other one has two matching/adjoining handles that are either held in a closed fist or swung over the shoulder like a cross and held tightly under a strong arm. Seems like a lot of unseen and unrealized muscle work is happening just to keep it held on. Plus holding it too close like that will always leave a stain or odor on whatever it comes in contact with sooner or later.

If I had a choice, if I was forced to choose one or the other I'd take the top one. Seems more comfortable.

LOL bad seed. Great analysis of the bags. ;)

Will Clooney be next with the plaid? There has been some talk this weekend about Leatherheads not doing as well as expected. The movie got mediocre reviews, but one article I saw talked about the fact that none of Clooney's movies have opened big. IMO this is just more evidence that popularity in the tabloids does not transfer over into popularity at the box office.

If Clooney, one of the biggest stars in HW can't bring in the viewers on his name alone, or generate interest with his relationship, what makes Reeke and their pr think it will work for them?

Do we really know it was a game of basketball? After all, that's what PR said.

About Clooney's film, I'm just in shock that the Kevin Spacey/Kate Bosworth movie is pulling in a lot of people. I guess gambling is a real attraction.

Jumping crocodiles, fauxmances, fauxmances clad in plaid, and not a clearing in sight. I see a few double-faux-dates on the horizon in SC. Anyone else? Hee. All that plaid makes me dizzy.

Anonymous said...

At least JT isn't choking Jessica!

I hope you're right about the faux double dates. How great would that be?

destiny said...

I'm suprised to BWF. By the way, I don't seem to recall that Spacey is parading around a beard (other than his agent at a few awards shows).

Egotastic claims Ellen Page is a lesbian

Claims it's a poorly kept secret in her native Nova Scotia.

Wow I really thought JT was Austin there for a split second :)

I love today's song, I think it's one of the greatest pop songs ever written.

I was asked about Outline of My Lover on the previous thread. I found the style completely hypnotic - the author sort of registers three out of five words in an impressionistic way. His character is vulnerable, kittenish and self-regarding but there's a core of steel, too - you also get a strong sense of the reality of the unnamed famous man and the influences pulling him away from the author. I dunno, whenever I pick it up I get engrossed in it all over again.

Great article on the HW glass closet

Michael Musto has a little bit in his column last week about why Ellen Page might be a lesbian, many of them silly, but ended with the one he concluded sealed the deal, her answer to a reporter that her personal life is private. There has been more open speculation about her than just about anyone I can think of in recent memory, and it does seem like it is kind of an open secret. I'm hoping that we're not going to see any bearding from her given all of the talk.

Loved how Colbert introduced the band saying R.E.M. put college radio on the map making it easier for corporate radio to find it and kill it. ;)

This was so funny, Frenchy. I always had mixed feelings when a small indie band we loved would hit the big time - on the one hand, you'd be happy that they'd be famous and more people would see and hear how wonderful they were; on the other, you thought of them as your own little discovery and you'd wonder that their music would change by going mainstream, and you'd miss seeing them in small, intimate venues. I loved our Out Spotlight yesterday. :)

I agree, London, this is probably one of the best pop songs there ever was, I think it may have been one of the first (records!) I ever bought. ;)

Kacie, I love your formatting, it's you! Don't change a thing. :*

I actually saw "21" yesterday, and had been looking forward to it. I like movies centered around Boston. Kevin Spacey and Jim Sturgess were wonderful in it - you'd never know Jim wasn't a local college kid, he's Scottish I think. He was great in it, and I always love Kevin Spacey. It was light, fun and very entertaining. Vegas is fun once in awhile, it'd be exhausing to go to often! ;) Something everyone should see, tho, I think. It's so impressive, driving there from CA. Anyway, the movie is more about a smart kid getting his comeuppance, and a bit of a thrill ride of trying to beat the house. It was very fun.

Sorry for the long post, was busy at work today. :P

ITA, especially the part about bands' music changing by going mainstream. I stopped liking R. E. M. in the early '90s, when they started to get big. Their sound changed! You could understand what Michael was saying! I was so disappointed. Sorry, but I loved mumbly Michael. This new record is a return to the R. E. M. of old.

Re Outline of My Lover- I really enjoyed it. It's an incredibly fast read and an interesting look at what it can be like to date someone famous.

I love these parts of that HW Glass Closet article-

His previous agent lost points by saying Barrowman shouldn’t appear in public with his partner, Scott Gill. The real message? Just as with picking roles, actors can select the right reps for their personal needs.

These people aren’t homophobic, they’ll remind you -- they’re simply reflecting the reality they perceive, which is that the public can’t handle an openly gay actor in straight roles. It doesn’t always occur to them that, more likely, it’s other money people who can’t deal with it!

And this as the suggested antidote-

The answer for many performers is to keep trumping their agents’ fears by responding to public pressure and being more forthcoming. As the increasingly savvy public tires of the halfhearted glass-closet lifestyle, a lot of stars will too, and the information highway will help lead them out of entombment.

Over and over, the message is that what people really hate is someone who comes across as a liar and/or hider.

frenchy said...

Wow, and nobody cried "Timber!" to warn me I'll be coming home to a pair of fully bearded lumberjacks! :D

Interesting stuff I really want to catch up with. Love the excerpt about the public tiring of these PR games and the information highway impact. ;)

Thanks for all the interestnig input about Outline of My Lover. I always love to read other people's opinions about the books I loved... even when they disagree! :)

Talking about opinions, Spesh and Wicked, what did you think about Highway?

Wicked said...

what did you think about Highway?

I liked it. I thought it was going to suck, so my expectations were not too high. We weren't entirely sure what the point of the movie was, though.

I always liked reading Jake's articulations during his interviews. The excerpt from a German magazine (translated by Stubborn a long time ago) was quite enjoyable!

Do you have the potential to be obsessive then? What about jealousy and envy, for example?
Jealousy can be something really healthy, while envy is dark and destructive, because after all you’re wishing something bad on someone. It’s very sensible that envy counts as one of the seven deadly sins. It’s similar with passion and obsession. Obsession can lead to destruction, to tremendous despair. Passion on the other side is enlightening, a powerful, great source of energy. But both feelings have the same roots and originate from the same family. I would compare passion with land. You have a ground under your feet and even if it gets exciting, I always know where I am. Obsession is the ocean: twice as wide and definitely creepy.

Anonymous said...

And the reason you mentioned that is what, Rattler? It's an old interview. Why did it come to mind now?

Anonymous said...

Huh?: BWF's comment on basketball led to my backgammon comment, which reminded me of the Jaustin days. I am just reminiscing!

The Bad Seed said...

Bad Seed, I am getting used to your sarcasm, and I am liiiiking it ;)

Thx Rattler!!!! :* I'm really starting to appreciate your dry humor too and your cryptology. :) It takes awhile to get to adjust and know people online doesn't it. (esp since you and I might be more alike than we think, eh?). I hope you finally sstopped laughing or else you might be writing your next comment from a room with padded walls. ;o

Anonymous said...

Obsession is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. ;) I always have thought jealousy was the more extreme of the two, with envy being milder and possibly more positive.

The Bad Seed said...

A pickup game of basket ball. Huh. Do ya think PR meant literally like the Celtics and Lakers or is it (Rattler!!) crypticspeake for something that involves a pickup and playing games with some baskets and balls?? :O

Anonymous said...

Envy connotes an admiration for the person along with it; covet steps into unhealthy territory, jealousy further still and begrudge? You don't want to go there. ;)

It takes awhile to get to adjust and know people online doesn't it.

Precisely, Bad Seed.

I'm really starting to appreciate your dry humor too and your cryptology.

Didn't someone famously say, "Birds of the same feather flock together in some ugly plaid shirt"?

Methinks, basketball is the new backgammon ;) What say you, Monsieur Spumanti? Agree or disagree?

Another fascinating part of that Hollywood Glass Closet article in Out is Clay Aiken saying he no longer has sexual urges! So asexual is considered better than homosexual? Really?

Wrong Way
Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, collectively known as GyllenSpoon, were snapped trying to evade capture together by the paparazzi's ever-watchful eye as they made their way to a gym in Santa Monica, CA on Friday. Jakey poo got the brills idea to walk next to Reese ... backwards ... so that it would look as if they were not together ...

Now, I really love me some Jake and it's not that I don't love to see Jake's behind but this has to be the dumbest pap-evading trick that I've ever seen. If it weren't for the photos, I wouldn't even believe it if someone told me about it. LOL. I think Jake should start carrying a purse (perhaps something in an Hermès) so that he can hide behind it when he's out and about with Reese ... I understand that makes celebs disappear from sight altogether.

JT definately wears his better. At least he seems to be enjoying his life and his time with Jessica. And JT's shirt has more brown earth tones it which to me says that he's more down to earth.

That Out article also mentioned Rupert Everett as an example of someone who came out and difficulty with his career. I always feel like that is such an unfair example to trot out given that imo he is not very good, plus there are plenty of stories of how full of himself he is and how difficult he is to work with. Being out may have hurt him a bit, but would it have had the same effect if he was talented, nice, etc. I suspect not, but there we have it, the poster boy all those money people can point to as a reason not to come out.

The Bad Seed said...

Destiny the poster boy all those money people can point to as a reason not to come out.

I never thot of it that way but you are right about Rupert Everett. That people point to his being out as a reason for his non-success but its prbly from other factors.

I read something about the model Cindy crawford a long time ago, that she wasn't the most beautiful model but the reason why she was successful and kept getting hired for work was because she treated everyone well, she showed up on time and was prepared and ready for her shoots. And was nice and down to earth and easy to work with. So ITA agree about your RE theory and how people/PR/film execs have prbly tuerned it into a 'don't out yourself' horror story.

It's simple - there's no need for a specific reason to share / post / repost something interesting about Jake.

Anonymous said...

Correct me if I'm wrong but someone is being called a troll because they asked an unnecessary question? WTF??

Don't like the tone of that blog. Nasty. I think Jake has a right to his privacy about where he's staying in SC. :(

Is Jake the only one who called a lawyer or did the others too? If it was only Jake, why is he the only one with security issues? Is it cos he has gay rumors? thought they were all buried under the ever so public Reeke??
