Coffee Break

After the SAG called production shut down on Friday, a note was seen tacked to the front of Jake's trailer door.
Seems that Starbucks is not enough anymore for this shoot, time for some serious shit. Enter KISS Coffee. Located in Myrtle Beach, SC it kicks that non-fat no whip mocha latte's ass. " Shout it , Shout it out loud."

Who can resist one of the signature brews: Demon Dark Roast, Kiss Army Blend, Kiss Unplugged or Room Service, or getting Baked or maybe Sinful while having time on their hands.

Has Jake had a taste of the Devil's Daily Drip before?

But was it just coffee or a shrewd business move?

Gene Simmons of KISS was rumored to contact both Gyllenhaal and Beil regarding a business deal for a KISS Kiosk on the set of Nailed where Simmons and the movie could split (70/30) the coffee sale profits and get Gyllenhall and Beil back in front of the camera. (Profits from KISS memorabilia not included). This is a projected windfall for the movie of a guaranteed $127. 62 a day. Couple with a Union sanctioned bake sale and book drive, Nailed could clear a solid $253.09. A can drive is also in the works. All have been presented to SAG for their approval as part of the reconfigured financing package. (KISS coffee for the cast and crew would be charge to production with a 6% employee discount.)

Mr. Gyllenhaal seemed to be excited about the business proposition but there is no official comment from his team. But Jake was found singing "I want to Rock-n-Roll all night, and drink coffee all day."

And who knows better than Nailing it than Gene Simmons.

Check out the following comment from Teamster on Nikki Finke's site:

"Let me make this clear. The crew has two weeks work into this film (70-80 hour weeks) without pay. plus health and welfare benefits not payed. This production did not have a payroll company until one week ago. The top hacks knew what was going on and treated the crew like mushrooms. we probably donated two weeks of our lives for free. Now we are powerless to the LLC Gods and lawyers. WERE Screwed!!!"

Hee! What a fun post - KISS used to be my younger brother's favorite band back in the day. So I have fond(?) memories of some of their music. Between the two of us, "Turn that music down!!!" was often heard in our house as we blasted our Mom's eardrums and our own. :)

I like the idea of a can drive and a bake sale (girl scout cookies) to raise funds for Nailed - the onset Girl Scouts can do that!

That is very disturbing news about the crew not being paid or having benefits - :(

That is so funny about the Kiss coffee, I've never seen a mention of it before. And I'm sure Jake knows a thing or two about coffee.

I was just listening to a live Pearl Jam cd yesterday, and Vedder tells a story about how one of the other PJ band members is a huge Kiss fan and that when he was younger he used to think that the chorus was "I want to rock and roll all night and part of the day."

The NYT story on Nailed! makes it sound like shutdowns on indie films does happen, just not usually on films with big name actors.

Remember reading that Coppola (Francis not Sophia) has financing trouble mortgaged some of his own assets to keep production going. Can only imagine what it must be like for indies who have limited resources to try and come up with the cash to keep production going.

Very funny - love it! :)

I hope everything gets back on track soon with the Nailed production.

The problems with the union workers being treated unfairly worry me. Unions do tend to support each other, as they should. I hope that report of people not getting paid for weeks of work is not true, but it sounds credible.

IMDb poster alleges things are back up and running

Not sure if this is legit or not.

Head over to Spooky's for a nice Austin video treat.

The story of the problems on the Nailed set is really going around the Net. Perez picked it up, and I had so many stories about it in my Jake Gyllenhaal Google alerts this morning. They need to get it together. I bet there will be pix when they start filming again, just so we know everything is okay.

I think everything is fine now..and its true about Jake sticking around because my brother saw him last night at the gym!

Isn't this person Nicole, the one who's been stalking Jake for WDW?

If true, it looks like Jake did not spend Mother's Day with "baby."

The Austin video is great. I wish Jake could see it. He would be running to Austin in a heartbeat. Austin just gets better as he ages. I love his super long torso. As to mother's day, Jake obviously did not spend it with his mother. We have not seen them together for a long time. Actually with any of his family.

Jake spending so much time working out really makes this PoP thing look all the more likely. That and him ordering the non-fat coffee. Trying to get in shape?

Jake really doesn't have that much to lose, he tends to look thick because he has such a short torso that even a few lbs, shows up on him. And training wise look what he did in the short time between BBM and Jarhead when they filmed. Yes he was running and doing some light lifting during BBM, but just stepping it up between the shoot, he definitely got down to business.

OT: but Gyllenhaal related.

Electric Company is coming back.

Electric Company was a show about reading on Public Television, many remember it for its opening. Heeeeyyyyy youuuu guyyyyss!

How is it G-related. Jake's mom Naomi was a writer on the original series. Which you can see some of it here. Electric Company

This isn't the first of [David] Bergstein's hedge-fund gambits to capsize at an inopportune time; last year's attempted buyout of Image Entertainment acrimoniously fell through a few months back when its primary funder fell under scrutiny from its investors. That and Nailed's problems may or may not be related, but Bergstein's money woes are also said to be trickling down to his American distribution subsidiary ThinkFilm, which, since the schmogul acquired the company in late 2006, have consistently flirted with having more titles in the pipeline than it can afford to release. (We hear they're in arrears with at least one NYC screening room, but they've also won two documentary Oscars in five years, so judge that progress for yourself.)

...The Screen Actors Guild on Friday pulled its members, including Gyllenhaal and Biel, after film producers did not keep enough money in accounts to pay actors, The New York Times reported today.

Filming resumed today, said Kara Borie, a spokeswoman for the S.C. Film Commission. She would not confirm any of the other details of the Times report.

She referred questions to the film’s publicist, who said no statements were being made at this time.

The determination of cash rebates — part of the S.C. incentive packages offered to productions bringing in more than $1 million — given “Nailed” will be based on an audit to be completed by the Film Commission within 30 days of the final wrap of the film, Borie said.

Shooting in Columbia is at about the half-way point. It began in mid-April and is expected to finish in about a month.

Agree that Lucas gotta be Wil Smith but who's Kareem?

Eli? Diddy? Jay-Z?

Jamie Foxx? Junior?

Maurice is the clear winner of our Movie Club movie poll. We will plan to watch it on Saturday, 6/7, so everyone will have plenty of time to get it.

Good to see Nailed is back filming again.

The Electric Company. Man, does that bring back memories. My favorites? Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader and in the skit "When You Say that Mister, Smile."

Reading that stuff about gay rappers, really makes me aware that I don't know my rappers too well! Although Lucas MUST be Will Smith. Who else could he be?

Special K said...

Seems like things are back on track for the Nailed. Just wonder if they will have wrap party or just let the survivors go in peace.

You wonder what Jake will ultimately say about making this movie.

Favorite parts of Electric Company was The Adventures of Letterman.
But now,"faster than a rolling o", just sounds so wrong. LOL

From today's AT-

Dear Becky:
As Ted isn't giving us so much as a bone lately, what do you know about Toothy? Anything?
Kyle
Dear Smiley Secret:
I know enough not to give away his identity while Ted’s gone.

Nikki Finke has a new update and it explains that the financing company derailed a bunch of indie films, not just Nailed and talks about the crew being owed back pay. So the unions are together and trying to resolve the problems on Nailed but not so good for those other indies.

Special K said...

Reading Nikke Finke and the article in newspaper from SC, now I get why SC film board is going to conduct an audit on the film after they finish up. Really looks like Capital is on really shaky ground.

Can't imagine all the phone calls to everybody's people. Now you wonder what was really happening in those pictures with Jake and Jess on Friday. Then you wonder what's happening with the rest of the cast.

Anonymous said...

This is why we have unions!

One of the articles about Capital said that a delay on a previous debt was because they were waiting for David's dad to sign some checks. How firm can the company be if he needs daddy to sign checks? Let's hope there are no problems in the future.

LOL Bake Sale.

Maybe they should set up a kissing booth too; I'm sure Jake and Jessica would get a few buyers.

Anonymous said...

Bake Sale I think I loooove you.

Kissing booth! & how 'bout a Dunking booth for Davy Russell??

Anonymous said...

Kissing booth! I'd be on the next plane to SC for that if they put Jake in the booth. FYI, Nicole on WDW reports that when her brother saw Jake lifting weights in the gym, he was wearing a tank top and shorts. What a sight that must have been.

IMO, you could be on the right track, Special K. Last time my project ran out of funds, kisses and cakes were the last thing on my mind.

if the unions dont hammer it out and if the production company doesnt do the drill that'll throw a wrench into the movie..wonder if everyone's gunna bolt on the nut director....nailed might be screwed!!

Based on this sighting and the one posted on IHJ by the WDW stalker, looks like Jake def spent the whole weekend in SC.
