Interiors

No not the Woody Allen movie, but similar in complexity. What we see on the outside is not what is truly going on inside. Morocco is case in point. On the outside it is a canvas of neutrals, but behind its interiors lies remarkable and intense beauty.

The beauty of Morocco is staggering. Behind high walls were cool fountains and brilliantly tiled courtyards, with small pools scattered with rose petals, simple seats overlaid with richly patterned rugs and cushions and bedroom walls glowing with polished pearly tadlakt glaze (made with lime, marble dust and egg white). The Moorish lights piercing the walls with slivers of light.

From passionate red of the paprika spice to the intense blue of the Mediterranean and the shimmering yellow of the Sahara. You can almost feel the decor as if it were alive! In fact one of the spectacular Moroccan decor is created with an intense blue as is there at Jardin Majorelle located in Marrakesh. There is no way you can fall in love with the blue color. The blue is unique because no one has ever been able to copy it.

Jake spent time at the Jardin Majorelle, the former resident of Yves St. Laurent, no doubt enjoying the not only the amazing interiors but the incredible gardens and aviary as well.

Now to think what the home of a 6th century Persian prince will be, the setting dressing for Prince of Persia interiors are going to take your breath away, if this is the Morocco of today.

Jake of course has worked in Morocco before, filming Rendition. But this time you suspect he is experience the cultural in a new way, completely immersing himself in it. Wonder if Jake will bring some of the Moorish influence back with him? The food? The furnishing? The rugs? The tiles? The garden design? The intense colors?

The colors, the textures, the scents, the heat of the desert day and the coolness of its nights and shadows. How could you not fall under its seduction, or seduce someone yourself.

Wow, this is just a beautiful post today. I'm really looking forward to seeing how PoP turns out. That shade of blue is just so remarkable, interesing to learn how the glaze is done. Thanks! :)

"Sulu and longtime BF Brad Altman were the first in line in L.A. to get hitched at the Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum, and exchanged turquoise wedding bands. No word if Shatner or Nimoy showed for the nups."

Hey guys! I am on vacation at the beach with limited internet access. Just popping in to say hi. We are at the beach, have been here for 2 days and my car already stinks of salty sea dog! Loved the Brad and George wedding pics. So sweet that Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig were there to stand up with George. I read somewhere that Shatner was not supportive of George and Brad, but I'm not sure where I read this.

Hi Wicked! I thought it was sweet too. :) Glad you're enjoying the beach.

I was blown away at looking at pictures of what was behind all the plain nondescript facades in Morocco. Guess it kind of like the old saying never judge a book by its cover. How different and exotic it is makes me understand why it's such a travel destination.

I can see Jake have a few Moorish pieces in his place. Maybe something that incorporates those gorgeous tiles. And can totally see him inspired by the gardens as well.

These pictures are so beautiful. That shade of blue, the tiles and the cactus in the garden. It must be a wonderful place to visit.

The pictures of George and Brad are really nice. I suspect you're not still around Wicked, but I had read that comment about Shatner somewhere too, although my memory was that it wasn't a reliable source. I've also read that George and Shatner have not gotten along since the days of Star Trek because, I believe, of some complaints by George and others about Shatner wanting to hog all the screen time.

"In a radio interview on The Adam Carolla Show on June 19, 2008, Takei made inferences to the effect that part of his problems with Shatner began when, as Takei started coming out of the closet for the first time, his sexuality was accepted by almost everyone on the cast and crew of Star Trek -except Shatner himself. (Shatner was a guest on the same radio show some weeks prior, and for his part expressed complete bewilderment as to why George Takei expressed such difficulties with him; according to him, he has asked Takei repeatedly over the years to discuss his differences with him, but has been repeatedly rebuffed.)"

Is it me or does that blue in the garden remind them of Alan Titchmarsh and Ground Force? Every show they were panting something blue in the garden. : )

I can see him walking naked through those gardens....

Did our fav Avon beardy do the LA walk yesterday or was it too much trouble for her to show up a few miles from home since she wasn't getting to travel on a plane and have an expense account?

Here is a good article on Maurice Sendak that ran last week in the NY Times.

Maurice Sendak's Concerns, Beyond Where the Wild Things Are

and what did you do? Other than making up a gratuitous name while sitting on your ass making silly comments? Just curious...

Oh, I looooooved Where The Wild Thing Are as a child, I remember I wanted it desperately because of those illustrations! Wonderful article about Maurice Sendak. :* Thanks Spesh.

I've been meaning to suggest the Sendak story as an Out Spotlight, but you found the article before I got a chance to do that.

The thing I miss most about Ted's old format is reading the next day's column the night before, especially on Monday nights when we'd get all the letters.

True Blood: Episode 2 "The First Taste" Recap

Previously on True Blood: Sookie, a telepathic waitress, met a sexy vampire who she saved from a couple of vamp harvesters. Later, those two came back to beat the ever-loving crap out of Sookie. Meanwhile, her brother Jason was arrested for murdering Maudette, a woman he had rough sex with.

True Blood's second episode picks up right where the first one left off, with Sookie (Anna Paquin) getting her teeth kicked in. After the brutal beatdown, a lightning fast Vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer) comes to her rescue, knocking the culprits into the trees. Bill takes her to a pond, rips open his arm, and tells her to drink his blood so she can live, though it won't turn her into a vampire.

Once she's recovered, Bill licks her wounds (literally) and they talk about her telepathy being an impediment to dating, which provides hilarious flashbacks of her boyfriends thinking only about having sex with her or with Jake Gyllenhaal in Jarhead, both of which make for unsuitable men. The conversation turns to Bill, who was 30-years-old in 1865, when he was turned into a vampire. After some prodding, he agrees to speak at Sookie's grandma's Civil War club.

Hey Special thanks for the article on Sendak. Loved Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen. So sad about him losing his partner after 50 yrs. What stuck out was how he never told his parents he was gay and how he knew he couldn't be out and be a children's author.

I learn something here every day. Very interesting about the unique blue. Spectacular shade. An HGTV special about homes in Morocco once explained the outward simplicity but inward beauty and extravagance. I dont recall the exact principal, but a version of not showing off, I guess. Also, images suggest only since only their God can create.

Destiny, I agree 100%. I used to wait for The Awful Truth every evening - it would show up 7:00 to 9:00ish PST. A delicious treat before going to bed. Now it's old news by the time it shows up in dribs and drabs all day. The Tuesday letters are about all that's left to look forward to. I think Ted is more into his video right now.

Orchid that was beautifully said. See life from our own unique perspective.

Thanks Tom. I've always enjoyed your very honest posts :) Good to see you are still waiting to see what the next chapter of this strange tale will bring :)

Wow, Reese got thirty million dollars for showing up? And that money was taken directly from the charity? And now she's a whore too?

If Reese showing up at a charity event is enough to provoke a capslocked rage, I hope you never find out that Austin was arrested for drunken driving, or that Jake (according to Ted) cheated on his boyfriend and slept with a producer for a film role. I'm sure your criticism of them would be truly blistering...

Anonymous said...

Orly, don't play stupid.

Anonymous said...

:) I was just trying to fit in with tone set by Miss Capslock of Rage up there, although thankfully I only have to play at being stupid. Still, I would just love to hear what she thought of drunk drivers and actors who sleep with producers for movie parts. Her keyboard would probably snap in two from typing out all that anger.

Anonymous said...

I like the idea of Jake sleeping with producers, I bet a lot of A list actors did it. *ducks flying tomatoes*

Anonymous said...

child of a breast cancer survivor - my mom had it and didn't make it

Reese got 10 million from Avon. Karma's gonna be a bitch for this all I'm saying. I gotta let it go. Let the universe deal with it.

Maggie slept with producers/directors for parts, like brother like sister.

Come on people, let's have some class. Clean up the language; your points aren't even visible through all of that.

Looks like OMG was overtaken during the night by unexplainable hostility.

Don't recall Austin being a paid spokesperson for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Nor is Jake the bought for advertisment sake poster boy for Abstinence Only sex education. THAT'S the difference between their exploits and Reese. She is the paid face of Avon, a paid face whose commitment to the cause she, and Avon, are pushing is less than stellar.

But, of course you knew that already, didn't you?
