Do you see what I see?

More Austin in 2009. And maybe every week.

Looks like the new Melrose Place is getting a chance for next season on The CW, as they're going to film the pilot this spring. Have wondered all along if One Tree Hill was a long audition to see how he would do on network TV.

With Austin is finding a good audience and fanbase do you think staying with television is the way to go? Or do you think he should stick to just films?

What do you think - should he come back to the CW as Julian if there is another season One Tree Hill? Could you see him staying on and being the bit of a spoiler to Lucas and Peyton's perfect life - or staying on and see what he can heat up with Brooke?

Or would you cast him on the new Melrose Place? Would he be the bad boy on Melrose or would they turn him into the stable young married doctor Michael Mancini type and then turn him later in a baddie after years of playing it by the rules?

And what does that mean if he goes network - will he have to play the rules in real life too?

One thing thing everyone can agree on is that he's too handsome and too talented not to be working more.

OMG Season of Sharing

The Tibet Fund

Under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibet Fund was founded in 1981 to help Tibetan refugees improve their lives and enable them to maintain their Tibetan way of life and culture. They bring urgently needed resources to the educational, cultural, health and socio-economic institutions that sustain the Tibetan way of life, language, and traditions. The Tibet Fund's support helps to sustain the Tibetan refugee settlements in India, Nepal and Bhutan and provide rehabilitation services for the thousands of new refugees who continue to arrive from Tibet every year. The Fund works in close cooperation with the Central Tibetan Administration to develop programs to benefit Tibetans.

Whatever Austin does I'll be watching. Television has the advantage of seeing him on a regular basis, but I'd love to see him on the big screen in some roles that would really give his acting skills a workout.

The more Austin the better. I've never understood the stigma about TV versus movies. Just a throwback to the 50s. Less pay than a movie, but a consistent paycheck has some real benefit. I used to watch Melrose Place, back in the day. I don't need to see it again. The ideal scenario is Austin in a successful series on HBO or Showtime. I am still hoping for that to work out.

I really want to see how they play out the whole Julian thing the rest of the season.

Still have a hunch that they used it to see how he would work on network, before casting him as a lead. Even after showing how good of an actor he was on JFC, think they may have needed to see if he could pull numbers from a certain demo.

Would love to see him cast as a brash eager up and comer on Mad Men. Or if Life on Mars makes a second season - part of the that whole 70's thing, since he didn't get to work on Milch's Ninth.

Its a hard call. Do you go with the steady sure work of something like a mainstream drama or do you hold out for something that's a little different for TV and take your chances (AGAIN!)

I think he should be the Melrose Place token homo who never sees any action until the very last season. Or since this is the Oughts, the token homo in the complex who brings home a different twink every week thereby causing the other Place tenants to stage an intervention to preach to him about safe sex.

an intervention, lol. I used to watch Melrose Place for a short period of time. I was fascinated with the Matt character, interested in seeing that character go places, but I don't know what in the heck I was hoping for. That was back in the 80's, right?

I just had to comment on the link on yesterday's thread about Van Johnson from towelroad. I was surprised as all getout; I did not know that. He was in so many movies; I remember him in The Good Old Summertime with Judy Garland and Yours,Mine and Ours with Lucille Ball. He played Henry Fonda's buddy in the Yours, Mine & Ours. I was dumbfounded after reading that. Can you believe that a guy would literally give up his wife and a woman would literally give up her life to save his image? And that Van Johnson would let these people do this. Unstinkinbelievable. How absolutely insane this is for people to be so, what, frightened? Frightened of what. That's what in the heck I want to know. That you change around your life and maneuver people like chess pieces to suit what you think the mass public is going to be just horrified by.

Can you tell I was upset by this article? This one was just beyond comprehension. Hollywood needs to get a grip. Managers & agents need to get a grip. To me, when you start playing your clients like chess pieces and telling them that they're not acceptable & loved the way they are, you are sending a message that gets ingrained into their head. This is just nuts.

prairiegirl said...

Oops, I hit "publish" before I
could check for type-os.

Did anyone else read that? The guy that gave up his wife was Van Johnson's friend. He gave up his wife for his friend. All for a charade.
Wow. I was a little shellshocked when I read that blip this morning and work has been so nuts that I forgot all about it for awhile, but now it's coming back to me in a blazing flurry, lol. I guess this one hits me kinda hard because Van Johnson was an oldtime actor and oh, I remember seeing him in Murder, She Wrote. The comments after that article on Towelroad were very interesting as well. So all the bearding that goes on in HW and all the rumor-squashing is basically for the Joe/Jane Public MovieGoer, TV watcher, is that the basic truth? Because apparently it doesn't matter to anybody else in HW because everyone participates in the hiding. I guess I've never really thought about whose "benefit" it all is performed for. Do I have this right?

Well, time to let it go now, lol. I got it out and I kind of feel better. We're getting some snow today. Are you Eastcoasters getting anything? If not, this Arctic Blast may be headed your way. brrrrrr

I love seeing Austin every week so I wouldn't mind if he stayed on OTH or got a new role on Melrose Place. He seems to be gaining a lot of new fans in his role as Julian. People are commenting on the great chemistry that he has with the 2 female leads, Brooke and Peyton. Of course, I would also prefer to see him in an edgier HBO or Showtime series - it would be great to see him working with Milch again. I think he can work on a series and still do movies during his time off. What's better than Austin on both the big and small screens?

destiny said...

I did see that article PG. Funny because I just recently watched The Good Old Summertime. I've heard that one of the books on HW said there were rumors Van Johnson was involved with the friend whose ex-wife he married, so there may be even more to this story. And fake marriages like that were pretty common, Rock Hudson was forced by the stuidos to get married, for one.

What's really sad is that nothing has changed today. And nothing will as long as people like Jake are willing to give their integrity and dignity the old shove and beard up the way he has.

DL gossip:

Does anyone, other than DL, really wonder if Jake is gay? It seems like Jake and the rest of the world could not care less about DL's opinion. Why would a publicist even bother?

Don't kid yourself, this place is on every agency's radar.

They cared when Marcia Cross went live from here, they cared when Naomi and Nicole went live outta here. They cared when Kenny Chesney gossip started up from here, enough to marry him off. They care that gossip writers like Musto, Charlton and Perez, and other big hitters visit and then spread stories further. They care because peoplelike Perez are reaching British audiences via big magazines. They are scared off what will be passed on along the grapevine. All from here.

It's a veritable stomping ground for PR flaks and gossipers. There is something on almost every subject here.

Oh, and the person above who said they couldn't see PR bothering with such elaborate scenarios? Perhaps that's the difference between you working for a firm that only reps small-time clients versus a major who has the power, money and staffers to do what they want, when they want and how they want.

Sorry but this industry is almost as big as the film industry itself. An industry behind an industry, so to speak, keeping the wheels turning.

If you were an agency and had money and contracts wrapped up in a big star (not to mention dozens and dozens of people jobs), plus potential future earnings via films and other sponsorship paydays then you'd go out of your way to discredit rumors too.

I don't know why this is such a hard concept for people to grasp. It's basic capital accumulation - your actor makes the profits that you then put back into your business to expand and upgrade, making your agency bigger and stronger.

There are people out there actually paad to troll the internet and discredit gay stories, along with making clients look good, kind, friendly, all-round good human beings, even if said client is a total asshat.

It's a job, and somebody's gotta do it.

Reeke to spend Xmas with her kids

Awwww!

Poor Jake.

So you don't have to link to the People article about Reese and Jake's Christmas with the kids:

This Christmas will be a family affair for Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish.

The couple are currently in Australia, where Phillippe will spend Christmas with Cornish’s family. Cornish landed in Sydney Dec. 7 and then greeted Phillippe at the airport on Sunday.

Cornish says she is excited to bring her boyfriend home for the holidays.

"It's wonderful!" she told reporters Tuesday at a Sydney party to promote Calvin Klein’s summer 2009 collection.

At the event, Cornish put any pregnancy rumors to rest by donning a svelte, figure-hugging Resort dress and sipping champagne throughout the night.

To keep things fair, the couple spent Thanksgiving with Phillippe’s family, including son Deacon, 5, and daughter Ava, 9, in Delaware, where Phillippe grew up.

The kids will spend Christmas with mom Reese Witherspoon and her beau, Jake Gyllenhaal, caroling around the tree and performing in a Christmas Eve pageant.

Dear Ted:
Love your Truth, Lies, & Ted. It’s even better hearing what you say straight from your mouth. Question about Grey Goose: Is he also an actor? If so, is he currently on TV?

Dear Goose Hunt:
Darling, he’s playing the role of his lifetime!

Dear Ted:
Is Toothy Tile Hugh Jackman? If you can't answer online, please let me know if I am wrong by email. Thanks.

I am so glad that the Gyllenhaals and the witherspoons will finally be spending the holidays together. I have waited so long to see Mrs G, Maggie, Peter, Mr G, Chris, Austin, reeke and the kids all in a holiday photo for the world to see. I am waiting Evelyn. Lets see how low you can bring Jake down.

I bet Austin cant wait to spend his holidays with reese;-)

I know Tom. I'm looking forward to that too! Maybe the paps will catch them all out caroling.

I am laughing at the immediate response from Reese's PR correcting the crazy story that she was going to Australia with the kids for Christmas. Page Six and People, they haven't left to celebrate the holidays at BWR yet.

Checking in from work, which I should not do, because of Ted's Grey Goose comment. This I think is the first clear confirmation that Goose is indeed Austin. Who else has a show on Lifetime airing in January. Chris can be excused now.

As to the Reeke Xmas. I will believe it when I see it. I've heard at least 4 variations of xmas plans just in the past 2 days. I think Jake will be with Austin and babytile, regardless of where Reese is.

uh, guess I'm missing it, but where in Ted's answer does he reference Lifetime and/or Austin's movie?

It doesn't get any plainer than that. Yea, Ted. This should put to rest any thoughts that it could be mr chris.

What I'd like to know is how on earth People magazine would know the exact holiday plans of Camp Reeke. Caroling around the tree and Christmas pagaent. lol. That was entertaining reading. They may spend the holiday together, may not. We'll see. Once Jake really does get back to the States, it'll be interesting to see just how many Reeke pictures we'll get. I'm not going to rush it, that's for sure. I hope he spends it in London with Austin & BT. But the seed has been planted, so that may not be likely.

Mary Poppins is on the 25 Days of Christmas right now. I love it until about the time the kids go to their Dad's bank, then I lose interest & stop watching it. I need to finish my Christmas cards so I need to get off. Just checking around & seeing what's going on. We got snow today; just a blast. right.

Thank you, PG, for showing me what should have been the obvious. Used to be much better at Tedspeak.

Dragging my butt home after a early sneak out of the office and some serious Christmas shopping - now looking at my list and say.. what? How many people do I have left - dang it I thought I was almost done.

Anyway - yeah Ted pretty much spelled it out that GG is our Wild Turkey - and that would be a big ole Austin.

The Christmas thing is too funny and it did give me a chuckle when I saw first thing this morning on Page 6. You wonder if Reese has a big blackboard in the house with two column listed Me and Him (Ryan) and she makes little tick marks on it and makes sure to even the score everyday.

Anonymous said...

You can be sure that Reese's head is exploding with the gossip sites/rag mags having pics of Ryan & Abbie in Australia and how they are spending the holidays with her family and hinting towards an engagement. Reese must be planning Reeke photo shoots of epic proportions. No wonder she had her PR give out the story about this "lavish" birthday party for Jake and Disney letting him jet home for the big party. I can't believe that Jake is so rich that he would blow $14,000 or more to fly to LA for 3 or 4 days.

Austin in Mad Men - great suggestion. Except that I heard the show's creator may be moving on, so the 3rd season will most likely not have the same feel.

I wonder who sent the Grey Goose question. I half expected to see someone here get credit for it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Austin in Prayers for Bobby. I love that he is doing this film as I'm sure the subject is close to his heart. Its right around the corner now too - two weeks or so I believe until it airs. Very interesting comment from Ted. Speaks for itself...

Thanks for keeping us appraised of all things Austin, Special :)

I bet Reese is laughing her ass off now that Ryan is getting drunk and acting like an idiot in front of the Australian media.

What started off as a quiet night out in Sydney, Australia ended in a vicious paparazzi attack and police being called.

Ryan Phillippe and girlfriend Abbie Cornish were returning back to their hotel after attending the Calvin Klein store opening when they were accosted by some photographers. That’s when a drunken Ryan hurled into an expletive-filled attack on one unassuming lensman. After charging at him and abusing him, a belligerent Ryan blasted: “We’re tired and I’m DRUNK!!!”

Moments later, police were called to the scene. They were soon rendered powerless to stop Ryan’s antics as he paraded around like a spoiled child who could not get his way no matter how hard he yelled, kicked or screamed.

No charges were filed. Ryan managed to return to his hotel room in one piece where he is likely sobering up as we read.

Ryan and Abbie sure have given those rag mags a story. And such great pictures to go along with it.

I should have been home doing cards and other holiday stuff, but I just got home not too long ago from seeing Neil Young. I've lost of how many times I've seen him over the years, but he always puts on a good show, and tonight he was on fire. He always seems to be having the time of his life up there, unlike a lot of other performers, including ones who've been around half the time he has.

Interesting about Ryan and Abbie, I'm sure the general is doing cartwheels over it. I sort of feel bad for them, getting ambushed when they're tired and drunk.
