Out Spotlight LVII

Today's Spotlight is comedian, actor, self described "executive transvestite" Eddie Izzard. Born in Aden, Yemen, the youngest son of British parents Dorothy and Harold Izzard, an accountant with British Petroleum. At, Izzard's family moved to the UK. His mother died of cancer when Izzard was only 6 and his older brother Mark was 8. Boarding school followed with an education at St Bede's Preparatory School and at Eastbourne College, after he began to toy with stand-up at the University of Sheffield and, after being ingloriously kicked out of a major in accounting, he took his act into the streets. Izzard spent a much of the 1980s working as a street performer in Europe and the United States, and moved his act into the stand-up comedy venues of Britain, first appearing at The Comedy Store in London in 1987. He refined his material throughout the '80s, and in the early '90s he finally began earning some measure of recognition, though not in the guise in which he would later become famous.

Izzard's style is heavily influenced by Monty Python, especially in his use of a stream-of-consciousness delivery that jumps between topics as he free associates on stage. Among Izzard's comic talents are mimicry and mime. He portrays God as a bumbling authority figure using the voice of James Mason, and John F. Kennedy and Noah as Sean Connery, impersonations of whom appear in all of his performances. Izzard also imitates activities such as sawing wood, vacuuming, and mowing the lawn, anthropomorphizing the machines with accents and personalities. He tackles topics both contemporary and historic, including frequent re-imaginings of historical events which result in scenes like 'Cake or Death: Church of England runs the Inquisition,' or 'Jesus Ministers to the Dinosaurs.'

His stand-up work brought him British Comedy Awards in 1993 (for Live at the Ambassadors) and 1996 (for Definite Article). After the British leg of the tour, he took Definite Article to major cities outside the UK including a successful stint in New York City. However, his U.S. breakthrough did not really come until 1999, when Dress to Kill was shown on the American television channel HBO, about a year or so after he performed the show on tour in the U.S., the U.K. and France (that same year, he played a supporting role in the movie Mystery Men). Suddenly, America was aware of Izzard, and the show went on to earn him two Emmy Awards in 2000 (for performance and writing). However, he only rarely performs his stand-up act on television, as he says it uses up material at too high a rate whereas stage material can be continually re-used in front of different audiences for several months.

In 2005, Izzard provided the voiceover (again, in his unique 'rambling' style) for the British government's series of television advertisements promoting recycling. The tagline of the ads was "Recycle. The possibilities are endless!"

In January 2006, the U.S. television network FX announced the production of a new drama series co-written by Izzard called The Riches (formerly Low Life). Izzard and British actress Minnie Driver starred as a married couple, Wayne and Dahlia Malloy, who have been part of a caravan of con-artist Irish travellers swindling their way across the U.S. with their children. After finding another family killed in a car accident, the Malloys assume their identities and start a new life as law-abiding suburbanites in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Their youngest son has shown a preference for wearing girls' clothing, leading to some speculation that the role was based upon Izzard's experiences. Izzard has stated in several interviews that the character of Sam had been given transvestite tendencies long before he was cast as Wayne Malloy, but he has contributed his perspective to keep the character believable.

Izzard describes himself as an "executive", "action", and "underground" transvestite, as "a male tomboy" or "male lesbian" rather than a "weirdo" transvestite (he cites J. Edgar Hoover as an example of the latter). He regularly cross-dresses both on and off stage and makes it clear that cross-dressing is, for him, neither a part of his performance, nor a sexual thing — he simply enjoys wearing make-up and clothing which is traditionally perceived in the West as female-only. He remarks in one of his shows, "Women wear what they want and so do I." According to Izzard, "Most transvestites fancy women." He dismisses claims that he is a male homosexual, saying he is either a straight transvestite or a "male lesbian". He has also described himself as "a lesbian trapped in a man's body", and "a complete boy plus half a girl."

Often describing his "breast envy," Izzard, after shooting the film The Avengers, occasionally wears a pair of false breasts, reputedlymodeled upon co-star Uma Thurman's own breasts. These had been intended for Thurman's body double to use.

During the 1999 television special It's... the Monty Python Story, which Izzard hosted, John Cleese said Izzard was the "Lost Python"; Izzard furthered that idea via his substitution for Graham Chapman in public performance of Python material with the rest of the original members of the troupe. In 2008, Izzard received the James Joyce Award of the Literary and Historical Society.

Love the out spotlight. I never miss a Sunday post. This was actually someone I knew!

I'm really surprised Jake didn't attend that event last night. It was co-chaired by his producer from Nailed plus his director from Brothers and there was a Golden Globes tie in. Appearing with an upcoming costar (pictures of them together even at an after party would have sold well and been gold for the producers because it would be a way to get Brothers mentioned) is a sought after opportunity. Very strange choice to skip that event. Jim Sheridan can't be happy today. I heard he confirmed and then backed out at the eleventh hour.

There is a much better pic of Jake from Friday in the suit and scarf. I do have to say the suit is perfectly tailored except the shoes really mess it up.

Jake Suit and Scarf

You know what he needs - his cordovan shoes! admit it you know you they would look better than what he's wearing.

Oh you thought it went away - but nope. : )

Looks like the best stuff comes early tonight on the GG. Best supporting actor TV(NPH) and best supporting actor movie(Heath) come early as does Jake presenting a clip form Best Movie Drama contender(TCCOBB).

I think Heath is a lock but NPH has some real stiff competition and afetr seeing the list my bet is Tom Wilkinson will win this one for his part in the John Adam mini series.

I am really curious to see how Jake looks tonight. He sure looked awful at those pre GG party pics. This would be a huge opportunity for reeke to shove themselves down the throat of America but I don't see why either would be sitting in the audience or walk the red carpet. Nothing they have been involved in is nominated for a GG.
My best bet is that they attend and after party andd we will get plenty of pictures of that. They most likely will be sent immediately to IHJ which now seems to be reeke headquarters.

Maybe there was something/one/ones at home that needed him there.

I am also rooting for Sean Penn to win Best Actor but wouldnt be surprised if he didn't. Micky Rourke has won a ton of critic awards. I also would be shocked with a Langella win for Frost/Nixon.

Reeke might be there but also possible Jake will show up with Maggie. She;s presenter too. Peter S is in a play in NY so might not be at GG and Maggie and Jake might make it a 2 some for old times sake. Or a Reeke 3 some for PR purposes sake. Who knows anymore with these idiots.

You all: if Heath doesn't win tonight you have to change your avatar to the Heath "Finger" pic. LOL

Florida Tom said...

That is true quessing. reeke sitting with Maggie at The Dark Knight table is a real possibility. Didn't think of that. What a PR dream come true that would be.

Rumors have it that Anne Hathaway is going to win Best Actress tonight. Damn how is Jake gonna feel when he sees Anne and Heath having a big night. Anne is still out there pushing for gay rights when Jake has ran as far away from that role as possible. Well maybe his husband hasn't though. "Prayers for Bobby" Sat. Jan 24th.

Good morning, Special, Tom & tr! The sun is out here and it's a cold 34 degrees.

I hope you're right, Special. I'd like to think he, like a nervous 1st time parent, didn't trust his BT with even a well-qualified nanny, with GG gone and all.

I was watching that live feed link you provided, too, and watched several of the stars come out. Boy, that's kind of a big deal of an entrance to that thing. A kind of mini red carpet. Lightbulbs going off everywhere, the stars pausing to let their pictures being taken left & right.

And Aaron Eckhart, lil' rascal, he seemed to really be soaking it up. He stood there forever. He stood there so long, the girl behind him seemed to finally get tired of waiting and walked right on by him & his date. lol, geez Aaron.

I find that very odd that Jake didn't appear for that event either, sounds like it was far more important than the party he went to the night before.

Am I remembering wrong, or isn't Eddie I. straight? Which makes it all the more amazing that he feels so comfortable being out there with transvestism not just being part of his act.

Spent a few hours at LAX yesterday afternoon awaiting a connecting flight to Phoenix. Was enroute from "back East". Was able to access the arrival area for VIP's with my airline badge, and hung around with the pap's watching the black SUV's and chauffeurs. The only one I was able to see was Charlize Theron, she "ain't all that". Many more were expected, but I had to get back to the desert to thaw out after 4 days in CT. BTW, I was wearing my Red Sox cap!

True SK but wouldn't they have a naany? If true it might explain the "off" Jake on Friday night.

tr ITA. Jim Sheridan sounds like a nice standup guy and to be stood up like that is pretty low of Jake professionally {Nailed} and personally. Not good for Jakes reputation either way: he made it to the DGAs 1-2 years ago with a big bandaged thumb and an Oscar pre party sick as a dog for craps sake why not Friday night for a charity event?

You gotta wonder if his excuse was legit or if it was Reese-advice inspired.

Maybe if it was legit and like Special K says like a sick baby. I don't wish bad health on anyone {LOL} but if the baby {babies?} gets every colic, sniffle, cold, and earache and whatever usual normal things babies get, the better. The results of Jake missing work, canceling work events at the last minute, looking like crap, getting sick himself with colds caught from the baby, acting preoccupied.. it might be what eventually calls Jake out.

PG give me some Aaron Eckhart any day, what a classic face. My type inside and out. He's a good guy too. I read a BI on Ent Lawyers site. It was a "Kindness BI" where someone who was a high school history/socialogy teacher saw an actor waiting for an elevator and told him he shows one his movies in his classes. The actor was in a hurry but when the elevator showed up he skipped it and sat down with the teacher for like 15 minutes answering his questions about the movie. Ent Lawyer later revealed the actor as Aaron Eckhart. I respected and love him more ever since.

Special K said...

If Sophia was in LA, sounds like Austin might not have had to work this weekend either.

Chrissss! You found your password, lol!

Oh, and I don't know a darn thing about Aaron Eckhart. Never even heard of him until TDK. But I couldn't help but grin when I watched that thing. He kept stopping so more pictures could be taken. And the girl behind him & his date, she started forward once, ready to take her turn. But Aaron stopped again and more pictures! Finally, she just seemed to say "stuff it" and walked past them. loll! I just thought it was funny.

Man, who knows why Jake wasn't there. Isn't it terrible when you don't know the reason for something that you want to know? lol.

I don't understand all the ins & outs, why's & heretofore's of how HW works, so I guess maybe missing that event last night could be a much bigger version of missing a company holiday gettogether at the plant manager's house like I've done before? Pure social anxiety terror, that's what.

I am sure that would not be Jake's reason, tho. He probably has a much more valid one than that. You reckon that Jim Sheridan could really be irritated about it? I guess since it was a charity event, they count on people to appear. And it was announced ahead of time that he was expected to be there.

Anonymous said...

"That is true quessing. reeke sitting with Maggie at The Dark Knight table is a real possibility."

The Dark Knight is not nominated for anything besides Heath. Maggie and A. Eckhard are presenters for an actress in an TV show. Probably there won´t be a DK table.

And obviously nobody here is interested in the fact that of all people Mark Wahlberg (with Cameron Diaz) will be presenting the "Best Supporting actor", a person who was "creeped out by Brokeback Mountain".....

I had the same thought about Sophia; I think shows and films usually take breaks from filming around the time of major award shows.

I like Aaron too, and I thought he was really good in DK.

The play Peter was in has closed; he will be in yet another Chekhov with Maggie and Dennis O'Hare, who played Sen. Briggs in Milk.

Maybe it wasnt my craziness I mean imagination about the pics with Jake turning around when he was jogging and looking for a long time at the biker a 3/4 block behind him and then magically the biker slowed up. Biker looked pretty tall on the bike too.

Yea PG I found it LOL.

The party at the Buffalo Club was a CAA party, so for both Jake and Reese it could have been seen as a work obligation.

I hope for Jake's reputation that even if Reeke make an appearance together at the Golden globes, they make it in a low key way (yeah I know that's not likely knowing those two). Not because I don't want to see Reeking (which I don't) but it would just be totally tacky, pathetic and vulgar. Surely award shows are about the people collecting the awards, not those presenting them. Trying to over promote yourself at something like that (in my opinion) would make them look abit desparate and silly, and highlight how little award worthy work either of them has done since 2006 (okay Zodiac was under-rated, but the rest of what either has done is pretty feeble).

PG I commented on the pics 1 or 2 days ago. Theres pics where Jake is jogging in the street lane pics # 18-21 and he turns around and he could be looking at the biker back farther in the same lane. Its weird to me because as the cars are getting closer to camera/Jake {because they're moving forward} the biker isn't, its like he's slowing up. The bike should have been getting closer not staying the same distance/getting farther while Jake and the cars are moving forward.

I don't see Austin following them the whole run because bikes go faster than runners but if they were working out at the same time like how couples do and he was riding in the same area Jake was running in they would cross paths. Bikers wear helmets, sunglasses, hard to recognize underneath the gear. If I was Austin/Jake it would be funny playing with getting caught like that.

Yes, yes. Izzard has long been one of my favorites. A man clearly not afraid to reveal himself.

I caught some of the NPH clips from last night's SNL on various sites. I'm sure they will all be up soon enough. So talented and he looks great. Better than ever.

No comment re Jake and his non attendance last night. Who knows anymore why he does what he does. I dont even think he had a valid reason to go out the back door at the event he did attend. Maybe that is where he parked. He did not look happy, like something had pissed him off royally. Maybe some marching orders from the bosses he did not like or the way his peers treated him.

I would think that last night's event would be considered work too.

TR I'm curious how Reeke are treated by other actors. It doesn't seem as though Reese was ever friendly with any other actors, even when married to Ryan. Also if Jake is gay/bi many other actors would know. So wouldn't they know Reeke is fake? How do you look someone in the eye when you know they are presenting themselves falsely?

Interesting that they have footage of so many stars arriving but nothing of Jake and Reese.

If you look at that one picture that Special posted earlier it looks different than the other ones, like he's arriving instead of leaving. And it just so happens to be one where you can't see Reese anywhere near him.

I wonder if the reason that there is no video footage of Reeke arriving is because they arrived separately.
Easy to conceil in a pic because you can always say she was just out of frame, but hard to hide in a video, no matter how short.

I think I've said this before but I'll try to answer your question Wondering:

I'm not an actor so I don't really know but my hunch is they are treated with respect by everyone they come in contact with. They are at top of the food chain.

As far as what people say behind their backs, everyone shit talks everyone behind their backs. As far as fake/bi/gay that is not as much of an issue as you would think. If he were bi that would not cause anyone to even have a reaction it's so common. If he were "gay, gay" and they were in a relationship of convenience people might say stuff behind their backs but it really wouldn't be such a giant deal to these people who are so wrapped up in themselves that they can't think about someone else for ten consecutive minutes without getting a migraine.

If it were common knowledge that Jake was an openly gay guy, living with a man, and parenting a bio baby they had with a surrogate they would be a total joke. I haven't heard from the people I know that this is the case.

What I hear in my circles is "everyone says he's gay" then people shrug and say "like gay gay" (which basically means out to family and partnered) and then people I know say "maybe he is who knows". Then they get back to work. Of course I don't know any of his people (except for my summer friend who had a hand in Maggie's canceled wedding). I would assume that on his team this would be a really big deal and my peers would be in the thick of it.

For people at Jake's level there are people who actively manage the brand and that includes trying to tweak what is in the ether. A well timed "so and so was shopping for such and such" or a dinner date, helping a friend, or even a couple who were out looking less than happy are all put out for a reason (in People or one of the more reputable magazines). Negative stories are used as a disciplinary tactics for publicists who lie too often or make the editor look foolish in some way. Or PR buys a glowing story and feeds some bad boy tidbits as payment for the special cover or a positive slant on some big coverage.

I do know how Reese's team works and they are one of the most hands on in the business. So any snickering behind her back would be dangerous.

So to make a long story short I imagine they are treated pretty well. When she falls though (and she will, they all do) there will be a lot of fist pumping. Trust me on that.

TR, thanks for answering my questions. I don't think that anyone has issue that Jake's gay and that anyone would be rude to them, I just think that most of their peers would have much respect for a pair of tabloid whores who are faking being a couple. There are many unflattering stories of how bitchy Reese is and I'm sure there are many in HW who are waiting for her fall. As they say, what goes around comes around. It's sad to see that Jake has degenerated into being known only as someone's good looking boyfriend. And after 2yrs of Reeke the gay rumors still are as strong as ever around Jake. Do you have any clue how come Reeke PR has tripled their campaign since Jake got back from London? It's nauseating and even Reeke believers are getting a little turned off. Reeke has become the richer Heidi and Spencer-only Spencer's not gay and Jake is.

chris said...

I can't believe it. Reeke leaving the Buffalo Club, Jake speeding out almsot hitting people. What a pair of losers, those 2 are fucking assholes. Seeing that, seeing Jake behave like that, is unfuckingbelieveable.

Whats more is everyone coming to and leaving the Buffalo place was pleasant even tho there were a ton of paps shouting and the sidewalk was crowded and with bright lights and it was hard to see to walk. What stands out for me is the ones who were the nicest, who smiled and greeted, waved and aknowledged the paps, wished them well in return, who even posed for pics with them, who were the most respectful of everyone -- are the ones who are a million times more talented than Reeke will ever be.

I was surprised even ones I hear about being jerks [Gerard Butler who couldn't see thru the flashes, and when Kiefer's car didn't show the 1st time LOL] were low key and nice, not in a big hurry, said thank you and laughed. Even ones who didn't want talk to anyone [Lohan and John C Reily] were ok, they were quiet and quick but they weren't rude.

What in hell kind of fucking self important limp dick asshole has Jake turned into?

The picture I linked earlier does look like he is arriving -

1) Hair is in place

2) Scarf is twisted around his neck

3) Parking ticket from the valet in still in his hand.

4) The angle of the camera to him and the fact that you see cars and open space behind him instead of the building.

The other pictures

1) Looks like he had been running his hand through his hair all night

2) Scarf is just hanging and limp

3) The ticket would have been given ahead inside the club so they would get the car ready

4) Different camera angle and building.

I think it looks like Jake just had his fill of the night. He was done and just wanted to get out of there.

but what worse is he's adding anger to the mix.

In all seriousness, I agree, that's scary to see. I've noticed a marked level of agitation in Jake where it's normally not been before (he never lost his cool with the paps etc). I think most of us know what it's like to be with someone that has a different idea of how things should be dealt with and they have a way of riling you up in the moment ("Come on! Hit the gas! Go! GOOO!") and the next thing you know, you're dramatically speeding out of somewhere and losing sight of the reality. God knows neither of them is living in the same reality as you and I, but I think Reese is particularly out of touch. I would hate to think the potential is there for someone to get literally hurt if this is the sort of worked-up behavior we'll see courtesy of Reeke. Under other influence or on his own, I can't see Jake speeding dangerously towards people like that. As I said in my last post, there's no excuse.

destiny said...

I agree wIth Chris and Yikes, you don't drive like that in a crowd. Was he pissed? Trying to make it look like they're so hounded that was the only way to get out? Either way, not good. Strange that they didn't have any footage of them getting in the car.

And why does that story at the site posted by Club say Jake and Reese arrived in separate cars? Doesn't look like it in the photo posted.

I do agree Special that the one picture is of him arriving.

chris said...

yikes ITA. But a driver has to be their own driver not influenced by passengers. I don't think Reese was encouraging him to do what he did directly I think its more her influence to act like she is, a snot.

Where this new Jake is going to end up I don't know. He really needs to get rid of her asap and cut his losses. Theres no good that can come out of that relationship. She's a monster inside a tiny body and he's turned into an alien nobody recognizes anymore. Serious, after seeing that vid I never look at Jake the same way again. I'm shocked no one here is as disgusted as me [and probably you "yikes"] by that vid. That isnt the Jake who's career I've followed the last 9 years.

I thought of this - I don't know that much about the differences between the Prius and to other cars, but I wonder if the pick up is different? I don't know if you have to get the Prius more gas or not, to pull out and if he was just used to doing that.

Just a thought not an excuse before everyone jumps all over it.

Some of us haven't commented on Jake's behavior 'cause we have no desire to watch yet another Reeke video.

In fact, the last Jake pap pic I took an extra effort to view is...been so long I really can't remember.

Jake with Reese is pathetic, self-serving, cowardly and disgusting. Why would I waste precious time on the likes of them?

Same goes for that enabler Austin.

Come to OMG for the Spotlights and other info. That's it.

I can't find the video. Not that I really want to see it, since it doesn't sound too inspiring. I'm about at the end of my rope with that guy, anyway. If it is as bad as it sounds, he could make it really, really easy to pull the ol' doorstop right out of the door.

BTW, Kate Winsley is so beautiful!! I love her accent.

I probably would have done the same thing in a similar situation.

What exactly is the "situation" ? Did you even see the vid? Every celeb was walking thru the crowd and getting their pics taken the same way. It was all equal. So explain please how is Reeke's "situation" any different? Were they at a different party? LOL

I'm so glad that Heath won. I was nervous there for a minute when I saw RDJ & Tom Cruise were nominated.

Maggie looked beautiful. I loved her dress.

Jake looked really good, too. Sounded maybe just a tad nervous, especially at first. Has anybody seen where he & Reese are sitting? I've yet to see. And when Jake was talking, the cameras didn't go to her. And when Chris Nolan was talking about people fortunate enough to work with Heath, they didn't pan to Jake either, unless he was still backstage.

prairiegirl said...

Hall Monitor & foo (you're probably the same person), you're wrong about Chris. He does say what he means and no, he doesn't mince words. He is also a positive guy. Sorry if it's not always what you want to hear.

Hey, OMG kinda has its own Live Feed goin' on. lol

Destiny, thanks for the tip on Michael K. He's hilarious.

Well, took me long enough to figure out how to FF through that video and find Reeke in it. He did drive kind of fast. Funny how they didn't show them exiting the building like they did everybody else. I can't tell how fast he was driving, but they exited faster than anybody else I saw. He nearly hit the curb with his wide, wide turn and then overcorrected when he got out onto the street, kind of like what teenage boys & 20 yrs olds(sorry, OMG guys!!! but you gotta admit, alot of young testosterone-led young men drive like that to impress) do.

He's kind of old to be driving like that. It had a bit of arrogance to it. But like Chris said. This is not the same guy anymore. I don't care what anybody says. This is not the same kind of behavior with the paps that I've seen from him in the past. And he just doesn't look the same. And I don't mean just physically. And I'm not talking tonight at the GG's. He's really cleaned up tonight. I'm talking all these other times during Reeke photo ops. The whole set of his face is different. He just doesn't look as relaxed (although he did in some of the pictures at the Lakers Reeke game) , easygoing, & friendly like he used to. He acts like Reese does when she's not being interviewed for TV. She's a totally different person onstage or on TV interviews than she acts/appears before the pap cameras. Yes, you continue to hang around that kind of attitude and it is definitely bound to rub off. And she is all he is with so what do you expect.

Anonymous said...

pg,

Jake didn't have a table, so the camera had nothing to pan to. He was backstage, came out then went backstage again like he did in '07 and if i'm not correct '05 as well.

You only get a table if you are nominated or your film is nominated. He didn't attend the '06 GG because he was still filming Zodiac but some claimed he was pissed off at not being nominated for BBM.

I thought he would walk the red carpet with Maggie but she was solo.

Heath was in a different catagory than RDJ and Tom, heath was best SA in a drama and the other 2 wee for best SA in a comedy.

prairiegirl said...

Oh, thanks gg! See how I pay attention? lol. zziippp! Right over my head! Thanks for helping an oldster out!

Happily, I agree, Tom. Thank goodness Special & Wicked bear with us when we get upset. I know that it can get pretty negative at times, but what good does it do if you feel forced to say nothing but syrupy sweet things that either aren't true or you don't really feel that way. And let's face it, these are really tough times for Toothy Tile fans.

It definitely is not for the Faint of Heart and thank goodness we have each other right now! I have a blast with you guys, through good and bad.

So many great stars in the audience. Kate Winsley who is sooo elegant. Laura Dern. Tom Hanks. And where in the heck is Katie Holmes? I see Tom Cruise like every 30 seconds but I don't see Katie.

I was going to say usual self, but that is becoming the usual ever since he hooked up with you know who.

Delighted to hear Heath won. I hope he wins all he is nominated for.

Prairie Girl, the latest Stranded are post cards Ennis is sending Jack while on vacation. Very clever idea. Two seconds to read but they convey a lot.

I'm so happy Heath won, although the moment is bittersweet - still so unbelievable he isn't with us anymore. I'm aso happy Demi presented BSA instead of Mark Wahlberg. I thought Chris Nolan's speech was very respectful and hit the right tone - very good job.

Eddie Izzard is a favourite of mine too, and I actually just watched him this weekend in Valkyrie, which is an excellent film, much better than I expected.

PG, just read the latest chapter of In Plain Sight and this story just keeps getting better. Can't wait to find out what happens next :)

Amazingly Jake made it to the GGs but not the event last night honoring Jim Sheridan. Quick recovery.

Anonymous said...

Jake seemed a little stressed presenting, but maybe that's just part of presenting live. The audience also seemed to not be completely seated either, which might of been distracting. I had kidn of hoped he'd accept heath's award, but in retrospect Chris Nolan was probably the more appropriate candidate, and he did a fine job so all it good in the end. I'm glad Jake kept things low key - the best approach, imo.

Anonymous said...

You mean Reese wasn't at the GG? Wonder if Jake ran out the back door after he presented to rush off to a HW resatuarant to meet Reese for some romantic PR pics.

Jake was prolly stressed being up there because *EVERYBODY KNOWS* lol

Anonymous said...

Both Jake's presentation and Heath's award are up on youtube now. I can't recall where I found the links. I think on DC forum. Jake was neither relaxed or comfortable. He did not smile, but at least his hair was presentable.

Nolan's acceptance was touching. You could tell he was fighting his emotions. I wish the Heath clip was longer.

Michael K: CHICHIIIIIIISSSSSS

Michael K: Salma Hayek and her jumbo titties are out. I think I see Penny's saliva on those beautiful things.
10:28
Michael K: Of course, Salma is introducing Vicky Christina Barcelona. Penny Crz just queefed.
10:28
Michael K: ScarJo has the acting skills of a snail shell. She sucks!
10:28
Michael K: Borat is here with a short version of Michael Bolton's 80s hair.
10:29
Michael K: OH SHIT!
10:29
Michael K: Sacha just said Guy Ritchie was one of Vadge's personal assistants!
10:29
Michael K: Those serious ass celebwhores were not amused. Especially Salma. I think her chichis were even frowning at that joke.

Does look like Jake and Fincher are still on good terms, I wonder if he had a hand in asking him to do the introduction, since a lot of the other films were introduced by someone in the film?? If not Torso, hopefully something else.

I wish it had been longer, too, m. I wish they had shown clips of all his movies, but that's only my wish and probably not appropriate. All in all, very classy acceptance speech and even Demi Moore looked a little emotional. I thought Tom Cruise acted very classy; looked like he was among the first to stand. And I am so glad Cameron Diaz & Mark Wahlberg didn't present that award.

Orchid, I totally agree! The tension has gone on long enough, lol! Isn't it amazing, though, what she has done so far (heck, 34 chapters) with just sexual tension? I was so afraid there for awhile that she had quit writing or something. But she has come back with a vengeance!

OT live blog comment on MTV: "8:54 pm: Does it creep anyone else out that Brad Pitt had to flirt with a 7 year old actress while filming “Benjamin Button?”

Eww LOL

destiny said...

It's funny, I enjoyed Benjamin Button while I was sitting in the theater, but afterwards the more I thought about it the more I thought it was just okay and nothing to shout about. It looked great, especially some of the footage of older times, but Pitt was just okay, and yes, when you think about some of the things, ewww. And it's not logical that he'd start out as an old man baby, not a grown old man. I also didn't like the scenes in New Orleans at all, they seemed unnecessary.

prairiegirl said...

LOLLLLL! Thanks, Destiny. That darn MK. He is something else. He kills me sometimes.

Did anybody else notice that when they introduced Jake and the camera panned out to the crowd, I think it panned to Brad Pitt, who kind of leaned back a second as if thinking "Whoa!" or else he was surprised to see Jake there or what? It was a real quick, subtle bodymove, but it was there. I think it was Brad Pitt, anyway.

I was really proud of Jake, who looked great & just read his bit and then, poof! He was gone. If he didn't have a movie out or anything, I wonder why he was a presenter, tho? If he doesn't have any current projects? I thought his voice did sound a little shaky. Probably nerves, I guess.

Hey, and a plug for Prayers for Bobby! When they introduced S. Weaver (I'm not going to attempt to type her 1st name right), they mentioned she was going to be in that movie.

I hate to sound like an absolute duncehead, but this Slumdog Millionaire must be just an exceptional movie. It's winning alot of awards. I've not heard of it until lately. Mickey Rourke was pretty rough looking, but he gave a really interesting, gracious speech even though it was laced with all kinds of raw language, lol. And I loved his comment at the end about sometimes when you hit rock bottom, all a man sometimes has is his dog. I think he was speaking truly from his heart when he said that and he sounded like someone who has been to the bottom of the heap and back. Very humble & gracious statement to make. And very true.

Well, time to hit the hay. We'll find out tomorrow if Reese-y was there. I want to make some other observations, too, but I'm holding out until tomorrow.

Hey, tomorrow night is One Tree Hill, everyone!! Woohoooo! Can't wait. I'm glad our troll visit was short. Why in the heck they felt compelled to check out what we were saying, though, is beyond me.

Sweet dreams to everyone !!

Anonymous said...

GB doesn't allow posters to express any opinions that don't tow the party line, so that's why when a babbler comes here they assume a poster speaks for everyone. I'm sure Hall Monitor is upset because Reeke wasn't sitting front and center at the best table at the GG for all the world to see.

Whew! I'm exhausted. What a great and rewarding GGs! I was so happy with Chris Nolan's acceptance speech, I know I've been carrying on quite a bit but I don't want Heath to be forgotten, and Chris Nolan said it perfectly. So happy for Slumdog Millionaire, all great movies nominated for BP, but Slumdog has that special quality, and the music is so full of life. So happy for Mickey Rourke too, and Kate Winslet. Sting looked so hot! And Shahrukh Khan, I think I'm in love! Or at least dreaming of pelvic Indian dances tonight. And I never realized Johnny Depp had such an amazing speaking voice! Jake looked great, did a fine job, but seemed reserved. I haven't seen Benjamin Button yet, but it does look entrancing and magical, and Revolutionary Road looks like it will be quite the emotional experience. I love Sam and Kate as a couple. Maria Christina Barcelona looks wonderful too; so many good movies, so little time. :)

I got a little teary when Heath won for BSA, but I was surprised that I cried when Steven Speilberg got the CBDM award! So many iconic films, and I loved his remarks about creativity, inspiration and mentoring talent. Schindler's List is my very favorite of his; made grown men cry, as well as everyone else.

Anonymous said...

Anyone else find it interesting Jake did the GG Benjamin Button intro? A story about boy in old mans body, old man in boys body. Fincher chose who would do it and he ain't stupid.

Anonymous said...

Jake's intro text remarkably reflected David Fincher's thoughts during a Q&A session at the Film Society of Lincoln Center on Jan 4th:
On the film's point, as a whole:
That youth is not wasted on the young...[to age] is the best way that we're built for. That however lonely we may feel now, living your life in the other direction would be just as difficult.
Selections from David Fincher
Not so sure what this might imply. The delivery was impeccable, IMO. He had it almost memorized. I also liked Colin Farrel's acceptance speech (a well-deserved win): Curiosity is love, ignorance is nemesis. Slam dunk win for Slumdog Millionaire and John Adams. Good stuff.

Anonymous said...

Yayh, Heath won!!!:) He SO deserved it:)

Tom, you asked me if there is any fan-site dedicated to NPH. There is. I can`t link, but it`s called "Neil patrick harris fan". They again link to "church of Neil patrick harris". I get my information about him from those two places:)

I am so glad to hear that Heath

there will never be another one like him. I also cannot wait to see Benjamin Button. As for Jake,
all I can say is that he will live
his own life. In my opinion, if he
lets Austin go, I will bet that he
will regret it for the rest of his
life. At times, I really do look
for Austin to show up with someone
new. Everyone have a good week. I
also will not be surprised if Jake
and Reese get married. Time will
tell.
