Convention Time

Hollywood is a industry town. They don't build cars or make widgets, they make movies. And it is town based on movies - not just on movie stars, it supports carpenters, electricians, caterers, hair stylists, seamstresses, set designers, animators, middle managers, accounting departments, directors, and yes studio heads. The Academy Awards is the big convention of the year. Everybody shows up for one of the different events. It's not very different from other industries. You have to talk up your products, some are promoting what they did, other are there to keep current and look to make business contacts. Networking, looking for work, and slinging the bull by the bar. Is it any different from anything you've gone to?

It is just a big business convention, one that brought in $130 million for LA, the parties are like those hospitality suites, the awards show, the key note address recognition to those who has outstanding performance, the outstanding salesman of the year award, remember who they lost in the past and its a little YEAH US convention - to make them all feel better and boost morale for the next year.

And before all the brouhaha about walking into a party together. How more business can you get. But seriously - why do you want to put yourself through that cause you know he's gonna look better than you. I mean he was born to be in a tux. The best dress next to that could look like Mrs Ropers Muu Muu. Someone said carpooling I say Bingo. Annnnd who was the one who had to do the red carpet? The one who's movie is opening in 3 weeks. ABC people - ABC. Always Be Closing. You got to get some projects set up for next year cause you have nothing on the planner.

Now look around at the award crowd, how many of them are doing the same damn thing, and some of them even worse, those who stood up front married and with kids, and it's all a cover. Is there outrage over Franco bringing a date? Or comments about Pattinson or Hirsch not? That the host has as many rumors or that one of the biggest box office makers who presented last night has more?

Last night was a business convention that the public gets to watch. It's up to you if you get sucked into the spin of it or not. Will you buy this year's product?

What it should be about is not who walked with who, or where they walked, or dresses, or jewelry. It should be about the movies, the story - the performances on screen.

Congratulations to Heath's family and Matilda that have the recognition of his accomplishments of his career. Congratulations to Milk for breaking down more walls, and to the cast and crew who showed support of equality with the White Knot. To Sean and Kate, for roles, and performances that showed their talents as the consumate actors they are. Congratulations to Slumdog Millionaire for a story that captured so many. And congrats to Buttons - who received the awards they excelled at.

Sorry, have to answer Vf from last thread:

VF, get a grip. Getting married is a whole different matter than going to a party. Sheesh.

Madonna was without child at last night's Vanity Fair Oscar party. It was rumored that Vadge would use the party as her official coming out with Jesus. That didn't happen. Vadge came solo.

There was one thing at the Oscars themselves that really bothered me last night that I forgot about earlier--using a clip from Braveheart during the clips they showed for Milk's nomination as best picture. Everyone at my party really booed at that one.

For anyone who didn't see it, a link to Black's acceptance speach for Milk.

IHJ has the VF pix. Strange compared to 2006. Jake looks like an accessory to Reese, the gay little brother getting to go with his sister to her big company party. He doesn't look like a member of the Academy in his own right, a confident man. He looks like a newbie, like he doesn't belong, like he's starting from scratch..like he did with Kirsten when she was the bigger star. There's no commanding presence like he had in 2006. Maybe he can't handle being independent and has to be in the role of a tagalong, because he's used to it, it's the only thing he knows, like how he grew up in the shadow of Maggie, he's always gonna be "the little brother" (his words). I don't know. Whatever it is, something happened. This is not the same confident shining Jake from 3 years ago.

Anonymous said...

He does look very, very young, like the clock's been turned back a few years -

Anonymous said...

I might look younger but I'm dying inside.

Special K said...

It is very noticeable that he hung back from Reese some and that he would not stand together on the red carpet. Do you notice how there is someone between them in the line up and that he is standing by himself for pictures there.

Confidence in 2006 He was a nominee, the town was talking about his incredible performance he had 2 great movies in less that 4 months and was ready to come out until his people shut him down. Between November 2005 and April 2006 he was beamed beamed beamed.

Talking about turning back time, am I the only one who thought RDJ looked "refreshed" last night?

Anonymous said...

^^He really did. I'm interested in his Sherlock Holmes movie, and the one with Jamie Foxx looks excellent. Sherlock Holmes is a movie I would see anywhere, anytime, with any actor, although so far my fave has been the elegant Rupert Everett in a London opium den. Looks like Mickey Rourke isn't the only one who made a comeback. :)

But then, I haven't been the same since I saw The Reader! Wonderful story and tremendous acting, just loved the story tho.

Very good observations A Step Back. Our confident Jake is lost. How can one be confident when you have to think about every word or gesture to make sure you adhere to the script and don't reveal your true nature. No wonder his hair is thinning. The stress of living a lie is incredible.

I have seen a few youtube clips of the Oscars. Was happy to see a number of male/male kisses shown, even if they a were just part of a humorous skit. Middle America will get used to it over time. Also glad to see that some actors, like Penn, are not afraid to speak up and challenge the antigay sentiment. A role model is a role model.

Anonymous said...

So it's okay to be a fake couple as long as you look uncomfortable while doing it?

gotta admit @ 4:10: nah, it looks like a posed movie still on set.. which it basically is.. no love lost there. Looks like a company party pic. You can see the invisible wall between them. And they're supposed to know each other real well and be living together, right? Uh huh.

Most awkward moment? Ryan Phillippe and girlfriend Abbe Cornish walking — or shall we say sprinting — right past Ryan's ex-wife, Reese Witherspoon, and her current love, Jake Gyllenhaal. No, neither couple stopped to exchange pleasantries. Ouch. This must make child visitation really fun.

LA Times Blog - VF Party

What picture did they use - the death grip one.

Time will tell. Reeke hadn't been papped together alone in a while and the VF party was planned a long time ago. Even the last Reeke pap photo ops, they don't look thrilled to be with each othr. VF Reeke could habe been an arrangement neither could cancel.

There is no way Reese would be presenter and go to the parties without an escort. And especially with Ryan & Abby going to the same party.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for reminding me about the OTH being repeats. I forgot about that and would have been very disappointed.

It is sad that Jake had to go to the party as someones plus one instead of in his own right. Agree Reese would never have gone without a date. No other men are interested in her, so Jake it is.

Anonymous said...

Late Sunday night Jake and I had a huge argument over whose turn it was to clean up the baby's yucky orange diarrhea accident and who had to escort Reese to the Vanity Fair party.... tossed a coin and Jake lost.

Anonymous said...

Reese couldn't have gone with someone else because Reeke wants everyone to think they're a couple. But rather than continuing to play just in the sandlot with the tabloids and go separately, they chose to move up to the major leagues and make their fauxmance "official" by walking the Vanity Fair red carpet together.

They knew what this meant.

Anonymous said...

Reeke didn't walk the Vanity Fair red carpet together.

"Reese couldn't have gone with someone else"

She couldn't go alone either. Jake is the convenient, attractive mannered "single" man who can accompany her to events. And who won't be wanting sex afterwards in return.

Anonymous said...

Reese couldn't have gone with someone else

No one in hell would go with her. The only one on earth who does is Jake and thats because she keeps reminding him how much he owes her and he needs to support her blah blah blah. Someone needs to slap some sense into him.

Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish. Ry stroked his gal's back, and the two were practically inseparable the whole night despite the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon were mere feet away. As far as we've heard, there wasn't really any awkwardness with the foursome, but then Reese wasn't rushing up to give greeting hugs to her ex-hubby, either. And Jake just stood there like a frog on a George Clooney's hog. Just do not get this one. A double date more likely to happen (and sizzle) is…

Hey Vince, who did you bring? Ooooh, that's right, you weren't invited...whoops, I mean, you couldn't make it. Hey guys, how goes it. First time I've had time to get on here & say anything today. Was running late this morning and work was a bear.

Vanity Fair, you have company. I hear what you're saying and your comment at 18:11 is right on cue.

However. I also agree with Special & m. If she knew Ryan & Abbie were going to be there (and I'm not sure if that's possible, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was), there's no way she was going unescorted. Even if Ryan & Abbie weren't supposed to be there, I don't think she'd go unescorted. But this is definitely a different type of event than any other social event they've done because it put them in a social setting with their peers. It takes alot more effort to do something like this VF party than by themselves in Rome or Cabo or Paris. No pressure there. Here at this party, they were on stage for real. Now what gets me, though, is how they can go somewhere like this, putting on a show and knowing that other people know it's a show. How can you look yourself in the mirror? I'd be embarrassed as heck. Really.

Jake looks way young in these pictures, too. And Reese is looking older than him. She also needs to watch how she leads him around. If they want him to look like the manly man in this relationship, she needs to let him lead her at least sometimes and quit being the tractor pulling the trailer.

We'll see if pr makes note of that. There were some pretty good pictures of Reeke outside as they were waving at the crowd/fans. They looked pretty natural & comfortable there. But then as they're walking down the sidewalk, probably on their way into the party, they take on Position I and look like a groomsman/bridesemaid who've never met until wedding day. And interesting in the pictures at the party, when they're interacting with others, there's none of them chatting together with anyone else. Only Jake with all the ladies! Salma & Penelope are probably trying to get their feet in the door to be his beard instead of Reese.
And there's none of Reese chatting with anyone. That's kind of interesting.

Now. I'm glad to see Jake having a good time. It's too bad he had to go as Reese's date, though, and not on his own merit. When they're in Reeke mode? He's second wheel. When is he going to see that? Doesn't he see that now, for crying out loud? No wonder Ryan went seeking other pastures; he had to salvage his self esteem, I'm sure.

I liked the blue of Reese's dress but that black thrown in there with scarves of material wrapped here & there, it was distracting. Didn't care for the dark nail polish either. If it just would've been a blue dress, I would've liked it better, I think.

And my last question is this: I want to know what Jake & Austin may have told Baby Tile last night when BT asked them where Daddy Jake was going????

Anonymous said...

I liked the color of the dress too - sometimes black, black and more black at these things is tiresome. Royal or navy blue is a nice change, especially on someone with blonde hair. But I'm not sure how I feel about all the details of the dress either. :)

Wicked said...

I didn't like what most of the women wore last night. What is the deal with those architectural dresses, anyway?

Anonymous said...

It was the trailer park trash blue trowled on her eye lids, and sunk her eyes waaaay back in her head that looked silly, like a girl who didn't know what the heck she was doing, but thought she was hot!

Also, someone that has such a, how should I say this...severe facial structure like Reese should NEVER where her hair up like that. Just draws undue and unwanted attention to that famous and infamous anatomy part.

Oh, and she's definately a tad too old for the cutsey, don't you think?

Hey Wicked, on one of Wichita's local newstations, their weekend weatherman has a Corgi named Millie who appears with him on the air. I guess Millie has attracted quite an audience herself. And we were able to see her Saturday night on the 10 o'clock news. She has her own chair beside her Papa with the news anchor and the sports anchor. She was adorable!

Anonymous said...

:) Lots of mermaid dresses, and there was one with a lot of pleats, and Amy Adams' Carolina Herrera looked very Art Deco, I wasn't sure if I liked it, I guess I did. I loved Anne Hathaway's gown, the way the sequins were set in it, especially from the waist down, made her look a mermaid, and the color really set off her skin, and Taraji P. Henson's necklace.

Anonymous said...

I was actually very touched at how Reese paid special tribute to Heath's Joker by wearing his makeup on her face. Very sweet of her.

Special K said...

Ok I'm going to say it, while it was a bold choice - didn't Marisa Tomei's dress remind you of cocktail napkins that the bartender swirled with a glass.

Anonymous said...

Yes. :)

Anonymous said...

I liked the way the black and electric blue colors of Reese's dress swished together towards the bottom; very pretty, but from the waist up it looks like a completely unfinished idea. Most weird and unflattering is the flesh-colored material that I'm assuming was supposed to be largely undetectable. At first I thought it was just at the front under the black straps, but I can see in the red carpet photos that it covers her back as well. I guess it's meant to "hold" the straps that end just behind the shoulders. The material looks like its completely shifted around during the evening and even torn like a stocking looking at the party pics. Just an odd dress.

beauty school dropout, I agree, the cutesy stuff doesn't work anymore; I especially hate the tongue on teeth smile she does all the time. The half-Southern, half-Valley Girl voice is off-putting, too.

I *love* the photos of Jake with Penelope and Salma! They all look like they're at a 50s cocktail party together and the chemistry is so sexy, natural and playful. Compare this with the last 587 photos with Reese and it's just...whoa! C-L-I-C-K...in sync chemistries. Brings back the good memories of 2005, when things seemed so open and free - seemed being the operative word, of course - the way Jake looks certainly takes you there at least. A nice surprise.

Anonymous said...

Ted says Rob Pattinson and Natalie Portman might be a couple. Very nice. I could never get what the big attraction was with him until I saw him at the Oscars - very intense look, great accent. :)

Loved Jake and Penelope together.

Yes! I think this is why I keep coming back to this dress and realizing I liked it. I love Art Deco and the black piping design reminds me of Frank Lloyd Wright. :) I think Amy has been landing on some worst-dressed lists, which I don't agree with. I thought she pulled off the red even with her red hair, and the bold necklace worked, too.

Anonymous said...

It did, kinda, the piping design, or my fave building the Chrysler Bldg. lol It was the right shade of red too. It's fun, Oscar fashion.

prairiegirl said...

I didn't realize Amy Adams was the gal in Mama Mia. All I knew was that I remembered seeing her somewhere before. It was cool to see old school Sophia Loren on the red carpet.

So is this the end of awards season? I guess so, huh? After reading a bit online, I guess the VF party was the mecca of post Oscar parties. The guy that I'm going to dogsit for on Saturday night (Nikki & Puddy's daddy) used to go every year clear up until last year to Elton John's post-Oscar party. He had said last year that he doubted if he went this year because it was getting to be just too expensive.

Time to hit the hay. Does Hugh Jackman really have that many rumors flying around, Special? I did hear Barbara Walters asking him straight out if he was gay. Now, what is he supposed to say? Did she really expect to hear anything different than what she did? I didn't realize there were that many wonderings about him.
I did hear some good reviews on his hosting last night. I seem to always disagree with the majority. I came away kind of disappointed.
Oh well. He looked great in his tux, anyways. And he did look great up against Beyonce, lol. I'd like to see that in action in a movie.

Well, sweet dreams to everyone! Dentist today, doctor tomorrow. Some weeks are like that.

I actually like Tomei's dress. And my hands-down favorite was Kate Winslet's, I thought it was a stunning dress, loved the color and it was very flattering as well. But I agree, most of the dresses were either boring or just seemed strange. And what is it with all the beige tones? Those colors don't look good on many women. I did like the color of Reese's dress, but I thought it was one of the uglier ones, and the make-up looked like what me and my friends all wore in junior high before we knew any better.

Anonymous said...

Interesting that Jake will not go to the lesser events with Reese but went to the VF party. Networking much? And Reese has a man on her arm. Doesn't matter he looks like a kid!
Her dress, face & voice are all awful. Oh, well HW. Whatever!

Amy Adams was NOT in "Mama Mia". She stared in "Enchanted" last year. Perhaps that's where you saw her, PG.

Sheesh. And here I thought the Oscars were to celebrate excellence in the art of cinema.

I just now got a chance to really read today's post Special. And you're right, it turns out that Jake is no different than anyone else in HW. But for me there's the rub.

I like to gossip about all those other people, and there are stars whose work I seek out because I think they're good, but at the end of the day I have no interest and/or don't care about them beyond that.

Anonymous said...

I love Jake schmoozing Sean Penn or was he trapping Sean Penn? Honestly, I think if Jake could finagle a role in a Sean Penn film, either with Sean directing or starring, would be great boost for his career.

But would Sean cast him? I dunno.

Anonymous said...

After reading Destiny's post I went back and read Special K's post. And I agree 100%. It's exactly what my SO says when we discuss HW. BUT, a whole lot of "wrongs" never made a "right" and that's what sticks in my craw.

Jake or any other actor bearding is wrong.

destiny said...

I dunno either. Seems to me most serious filmmakers don't cast tabloid fixtures in their pictures, with the exception of Brangelina.

Re-reading my post above, I'm not sure I completed the thought. I don't care about most actors at the end of the day in large part because most of them play the game, and it's not a game I like. Before Jake, the people I've really followed have been in music. Most people in music don't play the HW relationship game, although there are a few--yes John Mayer, I'm looking at you.

Even Madonna, who I think we can all agree is all about the publicity and probably kept up her marriage longer than she might of for fear of negative publicity hurting her tour, seemingly decided at the end of the day not to bring Jesus to the Vanity Fair party. She understands that doing that is making a statement about your relationship, and it looks like maybe she wasn't ready to do that with someone who at the end of the day is likely just a fling.

destiny said...

FLF, I have several friends who really follow the film business, have written about it, etc., one of whom is gay and is one of longest and dearest friends. He thinks I'm absolutely nuts for caring what anyone does in HW or that someone who is gay isn't going to do what Jake is doing. But he also thinks I'm nuts for caring so much about Jake too. In short, he's (rightfully) jaded.

But I agree, just because a lot of other people are bearding doesn't make it right. And there are enough successful people who, at least that I've seen, haven't done it, and yet still make plenty of films. Keanue Reeves for one. If he's done it, it's been so rare that I never noticed.

Anonymous said...

Any publicist would find out who is going to be at a party in advance. So for sure Reeke knew that Ryan and Abbie would be there.

Reese's dress by itself was OK. It would probably look great on a tall woman. This was a classic example of a dress wearing the person instead of the person wearing the dress. But someone told her she looked good before she left the house. Just like unflattering pictures of her show up regularly, I think there are people in her camp that really don't like her. Obviously Jake did not see her until the event or he would have said something.

Teds' comment re the frog was odd. I think this was his way of noting that Jake seemed like an outsider, did not fit in among his usual HW crowd.

Anonymous said...

Obviously Jake did not see her until the event or he would have said something.

Why would he? Everybody knows that Reese has no taste in clothes and Oscar dress was just one of her hideous dresses and outfits.

And Jake just stood there like a frog on a George Clooney's hog.

Lately there's been Toothy/Jake/George Clooney references from Ted. Like Toothy wishes his bf was like GC, another 1 or 2 I can't remember, now this one. Was/is there a Jake/GC flirtation, or a definate sex encounter, or are these GC references for theoretical purposes? It's interesting why Ted's been putting GC into it. Sorry for the long post, couldn't sleep.. did some "frog on a hog" research instead. Some theories:

1. Is Ted pointing to this Frog on a Hog faux movie poster? It says "Frog on a Hog. Live Hard. Ride Green." It's a weird coincidence especially since Jake just did that Green Global photo op. The names on the poster too.. strange. You guys can interpret them, like Lewbowski. I never saw the movie.

2. Clooney's beloved 300 pound pet pot-bellied pig, Max who even slept in his bed with him, died at the end of 2006. Which was around the same time Reese filed for divorce from Ryan. George says he's not going to get another pig, one was enough. Is Ted saying something about Reese, her dead marriage, Jake leaping at the opportunity to have her as his beard because she's not going to get another pig? A perfect long time beard is someone who isn't going to get involved in a real relationship.

And Jake just stood there like a frog on a George Clooney's hog.

3. Harley Davidson motorcycles are called hogs and George has at least one. Maybe he gave Jake a ride on the streets around town although I can't see Jake on a motorcycle. Or maybe Ted means a different kind of ride, doing the leapfrog nasty standing up in a dark parking lot or garage.

4. Also a big fat hog is a penis, and frogs have big eyes and long tongues. "like a frog on a George Clooney's hog" could Ted mean Jake at VF party was standing there with his mouth open and eyes bulging? And/or was Ted referring to a past sexual encounter between them?

5. Or maybe Ted means Jake with Reese is like this frog. He's passive, he goes into whatever pose they mold him into, it looks like he's riding it but in truth nothing's moving, it's all for show, and he's not going anywhere. And if you watch the vid notice the frog's crotch. Nothing. Exactly how Jake is ball-less now with Reese.

Okay, so I don't know who in the heck Amy Adams is! I thought it was. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe she reminded me instead of the sister of Debra Messing in The Wedding Date. I think so too, Reese's dress color was great on her, but where she's so petite, the style and all the detail and long train overwhelmed her. Where she's very fair, it's the same with the dark makeup - trendy or not, it's too much for her. She looked a lot better at the Montblanc thing, with the short cocktail dress. I was so pleasantly surprised by the pics of Jake and Penelope; didn't think he had it in him because in all the pics of Reeke, there's such a sterility between them, not a relationship between grownups, I can't describe it.

I can. Jake and Reese aren't friends enough and don't like each other enough to be real good in faking a relationship.

I bet 1.000 $ that Jake and Jennifer Aniston or Jake and Penelope Cruz wouldn't have that problem.

Had the fauxmance been with someone Jake actually has chemistry with I might have believed it. Jake and Jennifer would have made a nice couple but I guess she was a bit too old and had just done the Vince V thing. I wonder who the woman who turned down the bearding offer was? Jake and Reese - there is always a curious distance between them but then she's distant with everyone.

Great research Lily pad! Ted often refers to recent events/pictures so I think you are on to something with at least theory number 1.

That's it! I thought maybe Jake was that way too, but in the VF pics we can see that he's his old self. I don't get it.

What don't you get?

Why he's they're on the cool side, but he's much warmer with others.

Pictures of Reese and Jake together, holding hands, looking good. Jake looking young and fresh, Reese looking very happy. Mingling with other stars of the big screen at the Vanity Fair party.

Austin at home, watching the Academy Awards on the TV (if he can bear it) stuck with the baby. Thinking about whether his TV show will be cancelled or get another season and wondering which option he'd hate the most (getting cancelled probably, because a job is a job, even if it's on a turd of a show like OTH). Tries to remember what happened to the HBO deal he thought he had, wonders if it went the same way as his hairline and curses the fact that The Informers can't use the "Academy Award Winner" line for Mickey Rourke now.

*weeps*

I love that frog on the toy Harley. Now THAT would be a great avatar!

I thought Reese looked tense and nervous, probably because her ex was there with his arm around the women he left her for, looked hard with harsh black makeup, Jake ditched her ass as soon as he could for people he's actually comfortable with. Jake looking shallow and immature because he can't handle the fact that he doesn't have nearly the talent of Heath Ledger. And both of them can only wish they had half of the talent and the longevity of Mickey Rourke.

Reese and Jake looking fake and phony as usual. Reese with bad makeup and even worse dress, holding Jake's hand because that's the easiest way to look like a real couple (it doesn't work).

Jake dumping the bore as soon as possible, and having a great time with everyone else.

I didn't realise the pictures came with timestamps so we could see how long it took for Jake to separate himself from Reese. Ted didn't mention Jake abandoning Reese, and he said that there wasn't any awkwardness between Reese and Ryan/Abbie, and I'm sure he'd know that better than anyone here. If it did happen you could bet he would have said so. Still, imagining that that did happen takes the edge off thinking about Austin so lets go with it.

No need for Ted to follow Reeke around, there are enough pictures to tell the story.

Anonymous said...

Reese has a death grip so tight on Jake's open hand that his palm is red.

Reese was looking forward to seeing Ryan and Abbie! lol

Anonymous said...

But Ted did get the story, and the story was that there was no drama, no awkwardness, just a foursome at a party. Damn that Ted for not upping the drama and making it sound like a miserable experience for Reese and leaving us to rely on fanfiction from The Party.

Reese was dumped years ago, but I bet she wasn't happy to see Ryan and Abbie, two people who know for sure about the fauxmance. Bad for her big ego.

"And Jake just stood there like a frog on a George Clooney's hog."

Vet, you just keep telling yourself that. I don't think anybody expected some kind of a brawl or shouting match, for crying out loud. They're all adults. And I don't think anyone really thinks that Jake & Reese dislike each other either; we're not that ignorant. I mean, come on. They've been showboating this thing now for 1 1/2 years now, how could you possibly not get to know someone in that amount of time? Hey, they're shopping/coffee buddies, remember? Doesn't mean he likes holding her hand, though. And it certainly doesn't mean they're sleeping or living together; you just keep on dreaming that. At best, they have the chemistry of Buffy & Jody of Family Affair, brother & sister.
Have you seen any pictures of Jake holding Reese like he is Penelope Cruz? Didn't think so.

Let's see how long it'll take for PR to crank out a scenario for them to duplicate that said clench, now.

Looks like someone's got to come gloat a little bit.

Now, Vanity Fair did have a good point yesterday. On the front webpage of US Weekly and People.com is the picture of Reeke, as they gave each other the look. See? That's the picture they're going to use. And that's the one that I'm sure will be in the rags this coming weekend. That'll be all that's needed for them to get their message across. Never mind that everyone here at OMG knows that that is not his Austin smile. But no one else knows that.

Kinda makes me want to slap both of them silly.

But, hey, I'm not going to ruin my lunch of Blue Bunny Key Lime yogurt.

Chris, where're you at, buddy? Did you go back out on the boat? Are you adrift out to sea?

I better end this comment. I just know Special is going to publish the new post today anytime and it'll be my luck that I'll lose my comment.

Think it'll be a short lunch break anyway since I have to leave work early.

Oh, & Orchid? You don't have to comment on IPS Ch. 35 like I asked. I think I was overcome with adrenalin when I typed that. And m, you lil rascal you, I know you read it that night, you ain't foolin' me, lol! I remember you're shy about it all. That's alright. We don't wanna embarrass ourselves anyway, huh? It was a summit reach, tho, wasn't it? And it took 35 chapters, imagine that.

Everyone have a good afternoon. I hope I don't lose this; I'll have a fit.

See? That's the picture they're going to use.

Of course, all we need is one good picture per photo ops to sell the fauxmance to fangirls and tabloid readers.

Very good Lily on the frog analogies. Another possibility is that they're amphibians, at home in the water and on land. Maybe Ted was also trying to say Jake is attempting to do what's expected of him on land, i.e., HW/with Reeke.

I like your avatar PG. And if you do get into a slapfest let me know, I'm so there to get in a few myself.

Don't be naive. That's not exactly what Ted said. It's still gonna sting, seeing a rival, no matter if she shows it outwardly or not. Even if she has a privileged, immature, superficial, status conscious pretty boy on her arm who can't seem stand the fact that Heath is still getting more attention for his work than he is. Sometimes I hate to say it, but I actually wonder what Reese sees in Jake, aside from the obvious.

Anonymous said...

What Reese sees in Jake?

LOL

Reese wanted a "better than Ryan", long term, high profile "boyfriend" for her "strong and happy woman" public profile.

Jake was available for the job.

Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish. Ry stroked his gal's back, and the two were practically inseparable the whole night despite the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon were mere feet away.

Interesting how Ted makes the point that Ryan and Abbie are a couple ("practically inseparable") but says no such thing about Jake and Reese being inseparable, only that the whole night they were standing nearby. And "standing nearby" doesn't necessarily mean
"standing nearby together." It only means that one or the other, or maybe both, were at times during the evening near Ryan and Abbie (who did stick together like a couple). Methinks it was more likely separaetly, that Jake and Reese didn't hang out together all that much at the party.

I have to say tho that I don't get something. How Ted says how "the two were practically inseparable the whole night despite the fact" .. - Why wouldn't Ryan and Abbie stay near each other, just because Reeke were there? He makes it sound like because Reese and Jake are there, that Ryan and Abbie wouldn't hang out together. That doesn't make sense.

That's not exactly what Ted said.

That's exactly what he said. He never said anything about Jake being this bitter jealous boy though, that's all fanfiction from the peanut gallery, fanfiction that runs counter to everything that Ted has said about Jake and his feelings towards Heath.

Anonymous said...

^^Ted hasn't said anything about Jake and Heath to my knowledge. Other than Jake isn't his spokesperson. Why do you suppose he didn't show up at the Oscars, being a member of the Academy, to salute Heath's win? I actually don't know much about it.
