Miss(ing) Informers

We saw a little bit of behind the scenes of Informers when it was being filmed, but know as the movie comes out we are finding out more about what happened behing the scenes. We knew that they cut out Brandon Routh's (the vampire storyline) part in Informer even before shooting started, but looks like that they edited more than that.

In an interview with The Cult, author Bret Easton Ellis says that there many different cuts of Informers.

DW: Were there other cuts that were floating around at one point?

BEE: Yeah, many cuts. Even some that they showed. Personally, I prefer longer cuts. There’s about forty minutes that I think are missing from the movie. So it feels… (pauses)… I don’t know, it’s just that, there are endings to a lot of these stories that just aren’t in the movie now. There was like four or five more very long scenes…

DW: But important scenes?

BEE: I think very important scenes. Simply within the Chris Isaak / Lou Taylor Pucci father / son Hawaii scenes that comes to a head.

DW: I forgot how that storyline ended?

BEE: Because it doesn’t.

Read more of The Cult interview here.

Talking to the AV Club Ellis says there are 45- 50 minutes of it that you won't see.

AVC: How much does the finished film resemble the script?

BEE: Very little. [Laughs] Gregor would have to admit that too, and so would Marco. This is not me complaining. That’s the fact. The 95-minute version of The Informers is very different from this sprawling, epic movie that Nick and I had in mind when we wrote the script. For some people, that probably sounds like its own kind of hell, but there’s a lot more resolution in our script, and it was also kind of lighter, funnier, more Altman-esque. This is a very different creature. I like the movie. It is very different in terms of tone and style from the movie we were thinking of when we were writing the script. There’s also literally 40 or 50 minutes missing from it in terms of stories being resolved, and…

While many have wondered if some of Austin's less than dressed scenes were editing to get the MPCAA's R -rating, now you wonder if there are more scenes of Austin's that were in those 40-50 minutes. Wonder if it will show up on DVD. ; )

What we do know is that Martin is sleeping with Laura, friend Graham's mother, Graham's girlfriend Christie, and Graham himself. He's a Billy Idol fan (had to get that in there). And is a music video director.

We had pictures of them filming this scene when they were in Uruguay, and now we see what they were filming.

It's been hot this week in LA and it looks like things are heating up for Austin too.

Signing a two year contract for a One Tree Hill (and you know it he made sure it was pay or play), The Informers opening nationwide in the U.S. (which unbelievably which is the first time since Glory Road) , and oh yeah and he's the big birthday guy tomorrow , and as a diva who shares the same birthday put it best, "hello gorgeous." We have lots to look forward to when The Informers DVD comes out, with all the unused footage. There have been several different trailers showing on TV, which is a bit confusing. Most movies seem to have only 1, but I've seen 2 or 3 versions for this movie. I guess reviews will start showing up any day now. I don't care if the movie is good or not. It's Austin looking like sex on a stick. That's all I need to know.

Glad to see Ted is at it again, not backing down from calling a fauxmance a fauxmance and confirming that the studios do control actor's lives.

((What did Ted say exactly? He sure didn't answer the question on how much longer it will go on. If anything he's disputing the letter writer's claim that its a showmance by showing the ass rub vid.

Not that I agree here but I think he worded it poorly, especially by not saying anything that it was planned or a setup or whatever.))

Do you actually expect Ted to know what's going on in Jake's or Reese's mind according to the fauxmance? How could he answer that question? Although he did not answer the question, he made a comment of Why would you let that bother you, or some wording that meant the same.

Ted gave a comment after the question. No, he did not answer the question.

Don't care to know what Ted meant, clearly TT isn't the star anymore, it's Pattinson Pattinson Pattinson.

Ditto M. :-D But it sounds like we may have to wait until the dvd/director's cut (hopefully there is one). I often find movies too long, but come on, 95 minutes for this many stories???

I haven't seen one trailer for it on t.v., I guess I'm not watching the right shows.

I love how Ted is no longer predicting the breakup of Jake and Reese. He didn't even emphasize that he agrees with it being a showmance really.

It's like he no longer has the sources he used too, and is really just guessing now like the rest of us. He's not really sure what's going on. But he will never own up to that.

I have seen commercial for The Informers up here in Boston a few times. Once during the 6:00 am newscast, I had my back to the TV and heard Austin talking, and whipped around to see it and make sure I wasn't half asleep.

I wouldn't worry, I think you will get to see a lot of Austin in those 95 minutes since he sleeps with a 1/3 of cast.

I agree that all homophobes need to be called on it, in both high and low places (I thought that kinda went without saying), but this girl is just a kid, would benefit more from being educated than calling her out on her background, looks, weight, socio-economic status etc., from the comments I read. Call it for what it is, ignorance. I don't agree with her saying this stuff on video either, but she's underage. As I said, I didn't see the actrual video. No need to get down and dirty like they do is what I meant, aren't we above that? That's behaving as bad as she is, and about the same age. I realize that these kids grow up to be tomorrow's bashers, the point I was making is that prevailing attitudes are to blame and need to be addressed.

Hello Cleveland.

Jake with a Spinal Tap Connection?

From the SF Weekly Unwigged and UnpluggedA screen above the stage is used to show fan-made videos of Tap songs, including "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" (featuring Lego figures), plus a 1984 clip titled "Cheese Rolling," which Shearer says was the original theater trailer for Spinal Tap. It features the band plus Ed Begley Jr., the Runaways' Cherie Currie, and (allegedly) a young Jake Gyllenhaal taking part in a Monty Pythonesque Scandinavian cheese
festival/country dancing/suicide ritual.

ITA. She needs to be called out for her prejudices, not for her personal attributes. But being a kid should not give her a pass on getting called out.

This fall Disney is releasing an animated movie that has its first Black princess. And of course it's still the same old story of a princess being swept off her feet by her handsome prince and living happily ever after. But when you figure it's taken Disney 72 years for a female Black animated princess character, how long do you think it will take for them to overcome gender stereotypes, much less put in gay characters?

Disney plays a big part in the stunting of cultural awareness and growth. 72 years for a Black animated character tells me they are racist, and their 1950s standard of gender roles and their constant heterosexual storylines are sexist and homophobic. No wonder Jake has to beard, Disney has its values it has to promote.

The homophobes in high places, both religous and secular, are more dangerous, because they have more power - power to change things and don't, power to be hypocritical in their own lives, and the power to influence, which perpetuates it & allows homophobes in other places to do what they do, not some misguided kid probably listening to what she's been told all her life, uploaded on a blog so that others can make sport of her to make themselves feel better. I don't give anyone a free pass for bad behavior. And all because she doesn't think her favorite singing star is gay? Go after a bigger fish, please, not some little minnow in a small pond.

I find it a bit odd that you would read all the comments R and B, but didn't bother to watch the video. And ita with Wicked. I was only criticizing what she said, nothing else.

You're right Lane, Disney has never been a progressive company, and long before PoP I've never really liked them as result. Your point also reminds me, I think that whenever someone thinks they're okay with something that gets said about gay people, like that girl in the video, you should substitute the word black for gay, and then ask yourself again is it okay. Nobody ever says its just talk from a clueless teenager when it comes to racism.

Very good Wicked. I knew I'd kick myself for not figuring out "hello gorgeous".

At least I am familiar with it, and the child is taught not to do that, corrected when they do it within earshot, and that kind of behavior is unnacceptable today, or should be. I hope the same will be done with homosexual relationships, that it is not ok to namecall and bash. I know you were only posting the video, Destiny, it's the comments that I thought were a bit much.

Hello everybody,

Wonderful sunny day for me, hope same for you!

Glad to know more about the "informers" behind the scene, this movie makes me really curious but I feel I will never see it on screen here, I am looking forward your reactions!!
I think Austin and Jake have in common they aren't afraid to take some risk choosing their role, I like that!!

Oh it's a bit out of subject but last evening I saw "Dancer in the Dark" from Lars Von Trier, with the singer Borg. A real masterpiece really, well I think I haven't so moved since BBM, saying Borg is wonderful is an euphemism , she is indescriptible. I have still the music in mind and the tragic end too. This movie shows a such emotional powerness.
As a singer I always found her a bit marginal with an particular univers experiencing new sounds. As an actress she is "true", you hope with her and suffer with her!! In short it was love after sight LOL

Back to Austin , he looks deliciously delicious in his movie, hope there is a lot of A shirtless scenes lol cause his torso deserves it....Only his hair cut with on the top this blond color seems a bit ....too futurist for my taste!

I'm sure Ted still gets some hits from TT, but my sense is that it is nothing like it used to be. Maybe he's just like some of us, damned if he'll let Jake off the hook. So while I'm tired of reading them too, part of me is also that Ted doesn't let up.

I work with a guy named Dave who is a total movie buff, who's read some of my stories, and is not freaked out by gayness at all. I don't see him often, but he's here today and i took the opportunity to ask him what he thought about POP, who the target audience was (in his op) etc.

He said it's going to be an action adventure that will appeal mostly to late teen gamers and men who like action movies. (he mentioned some of the recent movies like troy, gladiator, etc). He didn't think it would hold a lot of appeal to women, and actually said that he imagined the timing of a realease alongside SATC was planned. he said studios often release movies that appeal to opposite audiences simultaneously. THe guys can see POP and the girls can see SATC.

I asked him if he thought the gay rumors about JG would hurt his appeal with the average straight Joe and he said NO because he's not gay. He's maybe BI, but he's with Reese now, so he's definitely not gay.

I said that lots of folks thought that was just a PR stunt to quell the rumors and make him more marketable. He said "That could be," but i think the general point is, most folks who aren't involved like us, just see the mag covers and think they are together and don't think anything else about it. That's obviously what they are counting on.

I mentioned how stale and boring they were together, and he agreed with me that they have the chemistry of brother and sister, but then he added, "Or me and my wife! Maybe they're just like us: total duds but they've decided to be together and don't care."

Back story: he loves sex but his wife went thru lots of sex and other stuff while going thru fertility treatments and after they gave up, she said no more sex. He is very open about this - i'm not gossiping behind his back, he'd tell you TMI if he were here. Anyway, he said that maybe they are just no-sex people and that's why they have no spark.

The bottom line is, he said he's going to see the movie and he thinks it will be good, but he doeso think the target audience is fairly small to begin with. IE: he doesn't see it as a blockbuster type movie.

He's not an expert, but he's been a total movie buff ever since i met him 15 years ago, so i trust his opinion.

Interesting Sienna. One of these days I should ask some of the people (all women) around my office who I know look at gossip sites what they think of Reeke.

I also wonder what younger men would say about PoP and Jake.

Elinor said...

Sienna , the opinion of your friend is really interesting!

I wonder what yo he means when he said about POP "he doesn't see it as a blockbuster type movie"
For me it seems a big machine with big budget kind of spiderman or pirate of carabean lol , as for the audience I see it more mixed and not women on a side and fan boy gamers on other, but I maybe wrong , I am not expert !!!!

Quite amusing the comparison with him and his wife concerning the lack of chemistry!

You know , I never see wonderful chemistry in a couple aroud me lol

Regardless Reeke ,Jaustin and my opinion, sometimes I think the perception we have of "chemistry" maybe influenced by the look!

Jake and Austin are the top cause they are beautiful and shine of sexiness, together it's an explosion.

Now Reese it's an other story, she average cute but not sexy.
Jake with someone like Scarlett Johanson for instance....well would be more credible !!!LOL

Special K said...

Please excuse the wiki cut and paste answer to this.

Comic Con is an annual multigenre fan convention, held in San Diego CA

Originally showcasing comic books, science fiction/fantasy and film/television (as was evident by the three circled figures appearing in Comic-Con's original logo), and related popular arts, the convention has expanded over the years to include a larger range of pop culture elements, such as horror, anime, manga, animation, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, and fantasy novels. The convention is the largest of its kind in the world. Last year there were est. 126,000 attendees.

Siena your friend sounds right about the public perception of Reeke and PoP. The only thing is the no-sex no-chemistry between 2 young people but I doubt the general public questions it especially when rags put the 3 out of 100 pics taken where they look at each other or touch.

Destiny, no Disney isn't progressive I agree. But when does it stop being "behind the times" and start being discrimination or even subtle brainwashing? I forgot to put in my comment that the Black princess's prince in the story is not Black (I think he's Brazilian) and it's Disney's first interracial prince/princess relationship. In late 2009 Disney will finally be catching up to the 1960s.

I saw Teds Boring Gyllensppon collumn today. So far there's 300 comments, all of them except for about 4 are about Twilight's Rob P's romance with 2 actresses. 4 out of 300, is that proof that Jake and Reese really are boring or that the bearding is getting accepted? What's funny/ironic/sad (I haven't figured out which one yet) is Reeke's anal probe vid is being outdone 4/300 in comments by a possible Twilight hotel sighting, and both stories are heterosexual. Did the TT comments back in the glory days ever get that high? I wasn't here so I don't know.

About Teds Gyllenspoon letter. I agree he's keeping it alive but since he's not getting many hits it's because he's not letting Jake off the hook. Whatever happened to Baby Tile? He said it existed and that's the last we heard. Why doesn't he expand on the info he has on BT? Or is he waiting for the right time, maybe after May 2010?

I also found it interesting the name of the sender "Gagging in NYC." Maybe coincidence but remember the TT BV Gag Me With Cocaine about the female who was telling everyone in town about it? Makes me wonder if it happened in NYC, or has something to do with Urth Cafe ("why on Earth" = Urth) and a New Yorker. Ted could have used any name today like Vomit, Sick to Stomach, whatever but he uses Gagging, and if anyone knows about the unbelievability of Jake having hetero Reeke sex the girl in that BV would.

Comic Con is a convention for comic book and science fiction nerds, and I mean that in the best sense of the word. The past few years a lot of makers of science fiction/comic-book based movies have had previews of their films--usually a short clip with a panel that includes the director and some of the stars talking about the film. I saw Iron Man when I went to Comic Con a few years ago.

It has gotten to be a big deal since the movie 300 was believed to have been a massive hit in part because of the buzz at Comic Con, so now all the movies of that sort market themselves at Comic Con.

It's mostly a massive convention center full of all kinds of booths--selling books, t-shirts, old and new comic books, graphic art, promoting movies, etc. A lot of people dress up in wild costumes, and it gets hundreds of thousands of people over the 4 days it is open. It is held in San Diego once a year. It is really something to see.

I know a lot about it because I have friends who have had a booth there for years, they sell unusual art books.

I am sure I read that POP had a huge budget. Like 200mil or something, so it was definitely planned as a big ticket item, initially. Whether they still regard it that way is another story.

No question that this Rob Pattison has taken over. He seems to be all that Ted's readers are interested in. Ted did say he admired him because he could care less what the studio wants and is himself, take it or leave it.

Toothy is old news and there are no meaty items to report about him. I dont think Ted will abandon Toothy though, mainly because Ted hopes Jake will eventually come out. Plus, he has invested too much in him to let it just die away.

lane said...

I also want to add something about Reese's Elle covers. I sense a change in Reeke bearding. At first it was Jake proposing several times and getting rejected. Then Reese had booked a romantic trip to Egypt and it was that Jake was going to propose (funny how she would arrange for her own proposal trip lol) and then he was in NYC looking at rings (and somewhere in there was blurbs about she was wearing a ring but no one has seen it).

So basically it's been stories about Jake pursuing Reese and her deferring him. But now with the 2 Elle covers "Reese Hearts Jake" and "Reese in Love" she's declaring herself. We here all know that Jake hasn't said crap about it but others aren't as aware. But those 2 covers for me signal a shift, that the bearding will get even more solidified, because what's the next step? Reese is going to declare her love for Jake on magazine covers and then nothing happens? Jake doesn't respond? You know damn well Reese is not going to look a fool.

Jake has not publicly declared his love for Reese or confirmed a romantic relationship yet so he's kind of safe right now in the lying dept because he's relying on the public's perceptions. But if Reese and him do get engaged then he is just as responsible for the lies and bearding as she is.

tr said...

I applaud Ted for not letting the Toothy story fade away. I also love his occasional mention that Reese is a ball busting bitch. As much as her PR pays for gushing coverage from JJ, Popsugar, US Reekly and People they can't pay everyone off and every time Ted gives Jake or Reese a poke even if only three people comment I guarantee you Evelyn, Nanci and the gang have a bad day and that makes his jibes manna from Heaven (for me anyway).

tr said...

Don't you think he's already responsible for what he's doing? I don't see how things would change in any drastic way because he says "she's fabulous" in an interview.

SiennaB! said...

Re: Blockbusterness of POP... I mentioned to my friend the only blockbuster i've seen lately, which was ironman. He said he didn't seen POP as having anywhere near the mass appeal that Ironman had. He did say that he thought jake's body looked good, but we both agreed that his hair is ick and he doesn't have a manly voice at all, which will lose him points, i'm afraid.

Re: No-SEX J&R... i shouldn't have put it quite that way. I should've said no obvious sexual chemistry, which is what i meant. IF they really are a couple, i'm sure they're having sex. however, they just don't give off that vibe at all, like most couples do.

Re: Toothy and Ted... if toothy stories stop being interested, ted has no reason to keep pushing them. if someone else becomes more exciting, that's who he should focus his attention on, imho. if half of his fans think Jake is with Reese, then they think the whole Toothy thing is no longer valid. If a large portion of them think he's gone deep and is never coming out, then they're likely to be tired of him too. That only leaves a few stranglers who believe/care anymore. I can't see him continuing down that road just for the sake of it if no one really cares anymore. maybe he'll phase him out gradually, but it seems to me that Toothy is on his last legs unless something drastic happens.

ok, back to work for me. hugs. s.
