Jiffy PoP

The comments and reviews about the PoP Trailer are popping up all over the internet, but during all that about the trailer. UbiSoft announced that there will be a new Prince of Persia game. The question is will the game follow the previous PoP games, or will this be Gyllenhaaled with the cast being digitized for the game. Lego Jake, Action figure Jake, now Game Jake? Is this the Disney PoP version of the Village People? It does make you wonder that next Halloween will 6 mini Jakes being at you door looking for Kit Kats and Mars Bars?

Most gamers are saying that Bruckheimer and Newell did capture the first Prince of Persia to screen and with a PG-13 rating they are making PoP for as wide of an audience as possible without losing out on the action.

There are still discussion over casting and over Dastan having a British accent. But looking closer as the game characters, Jake does have a similar to a Persian Prince with blue eyes, and the Prince does speak with a British accent. Always been for me that listening to someone speak, their vowels give them away. Even with diligent work, it is those innotations of vowel sounds that still will tell you were someone is from. While it may bet that there is some looping for Jake in some scenes, it does appear that he is doing the majority of the speaking in the trailer.

It is scenes like this and fighting scenes where you can see the reasons for the diet, the workouts, the trainers and fighting class. From this little glimpse of action you can see that there were hours of weapons work and fight class, and the sheer athleticism needed to play the role. Also find Dastan more in command on his steed. Jake looks more comfortable astride this time around the ring.

Think Michael K asked the question everyone was thinking, in his own Michael K way.

It seems that during most of the filming of Prince of Persia, Jakey G had his nipples out. So why is the trailer for this shit lacking nakedness from Jakey?! The trailer should've just been 5-minutes of Jakey with his pecs out, shaking his weave (and ass) like the creditors are knocking on his door and he needs a coin in a bad way. Dlisted

We know that Jake went team Anniston with the hair, but do you think he can go up against Jolie as a video vixen? ; )

Both Jake and the movie look pretty good — as long as I ignore the fact it's based on a video game. Still, if all those straight boys get Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft then I'll damn well take my beefcake action picture based on a video game too! AfterElton

Much Props to Kate at WDW for finding Disney UK's trailer. Much appreciated. Less dialog, a bit less of the story. A different look at what we've been waiting for.

Although I'm not a fan of big, mass-market movies, these trailers are much better than I had thought they might be. For Jake's sake, I hope this movie does reasonably well.

My guess about the voice is that it's Jake, but with a lot of studio work to enhance the baritone sound (of course, pop singers get this treatment all the time). But it's effective overall, and the accent works for me.

i like the accent, and i agree that it does sound like jake, so that's probably what happened. they can do so much after the fact these days! i'm hoping it will do well for him too. the comments on the Drunk Reviews (or whatever it was) that was listed at the bottom of yesterday's comments, were evilly funny, but hopefully they won't reflect mainstream opinion. :)

If PoP is successful it will just validate Reeke. Sorry, but I won't contribute to that.

Speaking of accents I think Peter did a great job with his in Education.

They look great if you watch them once.

If you watch them 2-3 times you'll notice things like no chemistry between Jake and Gemma.

You know, gauging a movie by trailer alone, Pirates 2, 3 and both Transformers movies were all winners.

And we know how that turned out.

Agree with Vanity Fair, regardless of quality or PR hoopla for either PoP or Brothers, not plunking down 16 votes for Reeke.

i don't think anyone here has hated Reeking any more than i have, altho many of you have had better reasons to be offended by it than me. i'm not going to try to change your mind, but i will state my opinion, for what it's worth.

i truly, in my heart, believe that jake and reese are just in their relationship for image control. i hope that it's on the way out. i think her total lack of any warmth or couple talk in the In Style article is a huge indicator that they aren't trying to push it anymore. If they aren't pushing it, i feel that it's run it's course for them, got them where they need to be, and that they are on the brink of moving on.

BUT, even if i'm wrong about the timing and it continues for a while, i still think that - within a year - it will be toast.

So im just looking at this movie as being about jake: his future, his career and image and status, all of which tie into his happiness. For whatever reason, he doesn't feel safe/confident (career-wise) coming out now, and he's doused our fires for him big-time with Reese, but i still really like him and want to support him when i can. Three months ago i would never have considered seeing POP, but i guess i've mellowed about him and in the end, i'd rather support him than not.

As for the chemistry, they are cute together, but Jake is just missing something that makes a spark with a woman. My girlfriend and i were talking about that yesterday. In a movie like this, i think the guy needs to have almost a predatory nature about the woman. I know that sounds neanderthal, but wtfe... that's what i think. And Jake is totally NOT predatory. He's cute, he's sweet, he's even freakin' cuddly (imo), but you don't get the sense that he has a boner for her at all.

LOL Sienna. And generally true of Jake I think in movies with women. Maybe its the movies, maybe its Jake, maybe its the women he's paired with (he was good with Anne H.). I thinks its true of a lot of actors; some are good at faking that kind of emotion, most are not. I think that is one reason why Reeke has been such a major fail too.

No worries, Film Drunk posters are everything BUT mainstream.

I think Jake had great chemistry with Jen Anniston in GG. There was a lot of trust and comfortability betweeen them off screen that translated on screen.

Donnie Darko, it wasn't a conventional relationship, but I think Jake and Jena worked it well.

The worst chemistry hands down has to be Proof. And I don't blame the all on Jake. I blame that one more on Paltrow. I have really never seen her have onscreen chemistry with any of her leading men. (her icy coolness did work to her advantage in Possession) But I think neither she or Jake would say that their love scenes were less let's just relax and have fun and more ok let's go and get this over with.

i liked jake with jennifer a. also. it's funny, she's the one i've seen named several times as our druthers instead of reese, if he had to be with a woman. i loved GG, altho i hated the ending, of course.

i agree with your take on Gw P. she's just not sexy, altho i think she and RDJ had good chem because of the contrast in their personalities.

i didn't get any chem between jake and anne h., but maybe it's because i was so hostile towards her cuz i wanted him to be with Ennis.

i did get cute chem with Kirsten.

destiny said...

I don't like Paltrow either, and find she is usually really cold on the screen, but agree she was okay with RDJ. SO there's a perfect example of someone who needs just the right person. It's been ages since I've seen the GG so I guess I should give it another viewing one of these days, but can't quite bring myself to watch such a sad movie.

sienna said...

destiny... i agree. whenever it gets mentioned, i think.. Oooh. i liked that. i should watch it. but then i remember how sad it was and i change my mind.

also, now that he's so much older, i'd rather watch movies where he's more mature. unfortunately, there aren't many of those that i like at all. hopefully, that's all about to change.

Ian McKellen 'Proudly' Rips Leviticus 18:22 Out of All Bibles said...

Note to hotel managers: unless you want it to be altered forever, remove that Bible from Sir Ian McKellen's bedside drawer before he shows up.

In a Q&A with Details magazine, the openly gay 'Lord of the Rings' star admits to a habit of tearing out the Bible passage that condemns homosexuality -- Leviticus 18:22 -- every time he finds one in his hotel room. The passage: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

"I'm not proudly defacing the book," he asserts, "but it's a choice between removing that page and throwing away the whole Bible."

McKellen says his actions have inspired others to do the same. "I got delivered a package of 40 of those pages that had been torn out by a married couple I know. They put them on a bit of string so that I could hang it up in the bathroom."

The actor, who didn't come out of the closet until he was 49, talks openly about hiding his sexuality in order to build a successful career. "Acting was a means to publicly display my emotions in a way that was illegal for me to do as a private person."

He adds: "It was horrible living this secret life. You could feel a little bit what it was like to be a Jew in central Europe during a certain period. It was horrible."

Asked if he had ever considered getting married, McKellen says the act "never crossed my mind that it'd ever be possible for me."

"That's the scar that I and so many others bear -- we believed ourselves to be second-rate citizens for so long, the idea of being able to say 'This is my husband, these are my children' was not an option. I remember Tom Stoppard saying to me when I came out, 'I feel so sorry for you, because you'll never have children.' These days I would say, 'Well, why not, Tom?' But 20 years ago I accepted his judgment."

I guess it is nice we are talking about Jakes career and upcoming movies and not reeke. My stand is that I will not be seeing Jakes movies at least until the lie that reeke is ends. I am sure that will make a big difference in Jakes plans:-)

How will we know reeke has ended. It began with a ridiculous photo op. Will it end with an absense of photo ops. I cant see any offfical statement coming that says the two have parted ways since there never was any offical statement that said they were a romantic couple. Just laughable photo ops.
I think my favorite will always be the one with the two of them laying on the ground with Momma G around to show she gave her approval. They looked like two 14 yo kids. I know PGs favorite will always be Crackgate. That was one to remember. Of course the one that stung the most was the one when Jake gave the finger. Knowing that the picture had to be a planned photo op since no Paps would ever have been allowed to be in that area of the stage to me said it all.

Now I want to send my appreciation to passing by for convincing me without a doubt that it was Austin in the photo with Sophia. The way the facts were laid out were beyond brilliant. I believe.

Sophia is a fashion mogul it seems. She attends many of the events. Austin has gone to several with her over the yeras. If they wanted to really promote the romance why would we not have at least seen a pic of A. without the mask. The most likely reason. Austin wasnt there.

Early returns showed a close contest, as had been forecast. With 70 of 608 precincts reporting, the gay-marriage side had 53 percent to 47 percent for the other side.

PoP trailer review said...

..,"I have played all of the Prince of Persia games and after watching the trailer, I was shocked at how faithful to the source material the film appears."

"In the past, videogame films have failed by being either too faithful or not faithful enough to the product at hand. Since videogames have thematically and graphically caught up with the mainstream media, it seems like Bruckheimer and Co. had a great starting point and template for their film. With the Prince's dead-on costume, a beautiful female lead that is quite reminiscent to that of the videogame series and locales that draw from the original series and even the most recent reboot, it seems as though the popularity of the game series may actually be able to mesh with the excitement of the movie-going audience, thus putting all the pieces in place for Prince of Persia to replace Pirates as the next big Disney franchise."

Not Good News

Maine voters overturn state's new same-sex marriage law

PORTLAND, Maine - Maine voters overturned the state’s same-sex marriage law yesterday, delivering a potentially crushing blow to gay-rights advocates after a year when their cause seemed to be gaining momentum with legislative and legal victories in four states.

As the ballot counting continued well past midnight, the margin continued to grow - with 52.7 percent of voters in favor of the repeal - and the Associated Press called the contest in favor of gay-marriage foes shortly before 1 a.m.
