The Dirty Dozen

While Jake shops at Erewhon Natural Foods Market, LA‘s Leader in Natural and Organic Foods, where part of their mission is : "It is our policy to not carry food products containing synthetic (artificial)sweeteners, refined(white) sugars, bleached flour products, artificial preservatives and additives, growth hormones and hydrogenated/trans fats.", you can see Austin dropping by Ralph's for snack run.

Everyone should strive to live healthy lives, but sometimes you just need to be bad.

That makes you wonder about that Texas boy who loves his burritos from trucks, and probably had a few Frito pies growing up in the Lone Star state, there must be days he just wants to go bad, real bad.

Bet he's got a stash of junk food somewhere stashed away or runs out on secret missions for In n Out or tracking down a late night taco truck.

It just so happens that this Austin Friday falls on National Doughnut Day here in the US. So Austin this one's for you.

As they say everything's bigger and Texas, and that is true when it comes to Round Rock Donuts. Located north of Austin, in Round Rock Tx, Round Rock has earned a reputation of some of the best donuts in the Lone Star since 1926 and people start to line up early to get their hands on the "famous yellow (or are they orange?) donuts". Round Rock has done one even better and created the ultimate Texas treat, the "Texas Sized Donut.

Their “Texas-Sized Donut” is about 15 inches in diameter and weighs two pounds.
Snacking on the super-sized doughnut is the equivalent of eating 13 regular-sized one.

Keeping with bigger is better and heading north up to The Midwest, LaMar's Doughnuts has created the Long John, 12 inches of cream filled goodness. (From personal experience, 6 inches is good, 8 inches better, 10 inches Oh my! and 12 never again...but already thinking about the next time.)

Now of course Voodoo Doughnut in Portland Oregon has their very own take on this sweet treat. (erroring on the side of caution here and saying NSFW)

And this is one Gay Bar wouldn't cause too much of commotion for them to enjoy. (Another Voodoo Doughnut creation)

Now who could they name Voodoo's Voodoo Doll doughnut after? (that list grows)

So go out and celebrate National Doughnut Day, and have one for Austin.

And like Voodoo Doughnut says, "The Magic's in the Hole"

You are killing me Special. I love donuts, and you can't get a decent one in NYC. Even the Dunkin Donuts are not very good because they make them somewhere else and ship them to the stores, so they're always kind of stale. And no maple-frosted, my favorites!

Speaking of Dunkin Donuts. At least here in the Northeast, if you go order a drink at Dunkies today, you can get a free donut to celebrate National Doughnut Day.

Most of the Dunkies here make their donuts inhouse, but then again Boston is the homebase.

There use to be an Irish bakery nearby that made fresh yeast raised and cake donuts and they were some of the best around.

Of course living in the South for awhile, there were Krispy Kreme donuts. And for fundraising we would sell them by the dozen. How? We would pick fresh hot dozens on Sat morning and go door to door selling them. Seriously who would say no to fresh warm donuts at your door on a Sat. morning? But having a car load with 40-60 dozen its overwhelming.

Man, where some of you guys when I hung out to dry like beef jerky when this Henry Cavill thing came out? LOL. I was on a patio stone in the ocean all by my lonesome talking about faithfulness and not a single soul told me that I wasn’t unreasonable.

Man.

LOL.

This day’s scoffer’s report is brought to you today by.....no, no, no, no, no! lol. Today's scoffer's report is totally laughable. “Jake looks happier by himself.” LOLLLL. That is so weak of an argument, it’s not even funny.

If you believe the Henry Cavill thing, then you have to believe in Austin & Sophia as a real couple. Triple LOLLLLL to the third degree!!

Man, you have got to be kidding. And people talk about OMG’ers as grasping for straws. You could play pick-up sticks with all the straws that are falling from grasping hands here today.

Sorry for the quick post and improper quotation references. I am stealing some time here. I’ll have to catch up when I get home.

Never liked Krispy Kremes, too sweet. Not a fan of cake donuts either.

And as far as I know, NYC is the only place DD pulls that nonsense with the donuts, I guess because real estate is too expensive to have a big place. I think they're more interested in selling coffee than donuts.

I'm posting an interview with Jake that someone posted on WFT2. From the sound of it Jake still lives in the same place in the Hollywood Hills/Canyons.

About Heath said...

"For starters, Jake has rarely talked publicly about Heath Ledger’s death. I wasn’t sure if I’d get anything out of him, but I had to ask.

“A year ago, Entertainment Weekly spoke to a lot of people for a piece about Heath Ledger. The screenwriter, producer and cinematographer of Brokeback Mountain all talked. You were conspicuously absent. Are you uncomfortable remembering him in public?”

“Yes,” he said, pausing. “Brokeback was painful. Any time you go into pain, I don’t think you necessarily want to go back. But the results of that film, and how the public responded to it so hugely, were worth it. Walking through any kind of pain is usually worth it. As close as we all became making that movie, for all those other people, it didn’t extend much farther than [the movie itself], so that experience of work could be easily talked about for publications. The experience Heath and I had was also shared publicly with all the press and publicity we did. But what we shared as friends, though I respect the interest that so many people have in the mourning and grieving process and how it feels to other people, I feel like — and I don’t mean this in an unkind way — but I don’t think it’s anybody’s business but his and mine. So in that sense, to really respect him — and also the way he felt about his life and his private life and what he cared about, because he was a deeply caring and loving human being — every time anybody asks me any question about him, it would be like he was sitting next to me, and I know he would roll his eyes, because that’s the way he was. It was between us.”

On Family said...

“When I was 13,” he said. “My sister gave it to me. I subsequently became Salinger-obsessed. I had never been engaged in reading before. It was primarily the style and the pace of it, and the simplicity of his writing. Of his Nine Stories, my favorite is ‘Teddy.’ It’s an amazing story. Searching for Bobby Fischer is one of my favorite movies. There are themes running through both. Children are very often asked to do more than they should be asked to do at a very young age.”

“Let’s talk about that, only with your own family,” I said. “Your parents are creative people; there must have been a lot of emotion and passion growing up.”

“I saw a lot of conflicts, definitely. I witnessed that. Conflict, competition, people pushing each other — it’s all healthy. Jealousy is healthy; envy is dangerous. My sister and I, strangely and beautifully, have worked really, really hard at getting rid of whatever the junk is.”

“Was it always a given that you would enter into the film business, or did you think about other outlets?”

“In high school I watched my sister on stage in South Pacific and knew I wanted to do that. It looked like so much fun. But there are still times to this day where I feel like there are other things in my heart that I’d like to do.”

“Like what?”

“My heart has told me to go and take care of other people more so than always focusing on movies. I’d also like to direct movies. I don’t want to be presumptuous at my age, but I feel I’m getting enough information that as I get older and get enough confidence that I can not only be a part of storytelling but that I can also be a storyteller. That’s what we all love: the story.”

Jake Gyllenhaal grabs breakfast with a friend at Lamill Coffee Shop on Friday (June 4) in Silver Lake, Calif.

The 29-year-old Prince of Persia actor, who picked up coffee beans to brew at home, reportedly ran into Chris Pine at the coffee shop!

Yesterday, Jake was spotted leaving a gym in Studio City.

Jake also pumped iron with Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols over the weekend. Work it out!!

Back to doughnuts for a minute.

There's another place in Austin for Austin to get some very different doughnuts. It's Gourdough's. Running out of Airstream trailer and open from noon to 2am they are not your traditional donut place and neither are their donuts. Sounds like a good place to ease a night of too much tequila.

From the Mother Clucker with a chicken strip and honey, or the Porkey with Jalapeno Jelly, Cream Cheese and Canadian Bacon to their Blue Balls (blueberry filled doughnut holes with blue icing)

Check out their doughnut menu.

Great post for our Austin Friday Special. Just have to mention our good Canadian "Tim Horton's" for great coffee and fresh donuts. My fav is the Blueberry Fritter... no hole, just a twisted kind of glazed rectangle stuffed with a bit of blueberry jam.

The interview from 'American Way' provides an interesting look into some of Jake's world (guarded by handlers) but the comments on Heath .... well they make you think. I'm sure there was another published interview where Jake spoke rather reluctantly and emotionally about he and Heath, and it was after the GQ article. Can anyone recall where that interview came from? I'd love to read it again.

Today a good friend of mine brought this commercial to my attention, and while I enjoyed the sentiment of the piece, what really disturbed me were some of the responses in the comment section.

I wonder what kind of response this would get in Canada and the US on TV?

Come as you are from McDonalds in France

This sounds awesome. I love today's post, everybody sharing their favorite donuts. It's nice to go off the wagon every once in awhile. :)

I have to say, more than two years later, I agree with Jake, that it's his business. Time to let it go.

It is finally nice to see Jake has the freedom and permission to talk about Heath. He is not doing a real good job though of wiggling his way out of the reason he said nothing for so long. Sounds like BS to me. Just seems like Jake has got to watch evrything he says and does. He is trying to be polite like using words like respect and unkind but it just aint working.

I love DDs jelly sticks with the powder sugar on top. Yummy.

There is a lot packed into that brief interview in American Way.

Jake handled the reason he has been not spoken about Heath quite well. I think it is respectful of the what they shared together and of the spirit of the Heath he knew.

I was really struck by this comment talking about family.
“My heart has told me to go and take care of other people more so than always focusing on movies."

To me this is not what a single man says, this is what a husband, partner and father says.

Jake also reveals a lot of more of his past. “I saw a lot of conflicts, definitely. I witnessed that. Conflict, competition, people pushing each other and then saying it healthy is very interesting, as if he is justifying what his growing up was like, not for the interviewer but to himself.

Makes you wonder a lot of what his childhood was like.

And then this quote talking about his favorite movie and favorite Salinger story. Children are very often asked to do more than they should be asked to do at a very young age.”
Why do I get the impression he was asked to be an adult about things early on. Always wondered when he's married had that brief break when the kids were run that made lasting impression on him.

Makes me think that he's looking at his past so that with his own children's will be different.

Also notice how he is taking his environmental interests and focusing it on children too.

Something common among parents, I would think. It was a great, honest interview - he spoke, but kept his boundaries.

I had to laugh at Ted's TL&T (not the Jake part) - it just struck me funny - what with all the RPatz, KStew, ASkars, BF's, photogs, not to mention all the bleeps! I need a good laugh lately, with all the Gulf misery. :(

I hope that PoP will get a boost this coming weekend - we really enjoyed it.

They can easily spin it this way:

http://www.bumpershine.com/2008/01/21/laura-marling-at-union-hall.html

The pic is from 2007 and they are still together. Jake has listed Laura along with Mumford as his one of hisfavorites singer/band.

The pic shows Laura with a pinky ring but not Marcus so I doubt that he loves them.

Straight men don't turn gay is they hug gay men, that's only in straight fangirls slash fanfic/homophobic/sterotype crap along with the ancient pinky ring theory.

So Laura has nothing to worry about, LOL!!

Pinky rings are more hip-hop guido now than the latter, you need to keep up.

Poor Austin and BT left home again while Jake hangs out with pretencious indie bands!

BTW, the haus frau you speek of posted that tweet yesterday, it happened at the Thursday concert, yes I lurked.

I disagree. For some reason Jake was not allowed to talk about Heath till now. Jake wasnt allowed to do a lot of things in the last two years. Now all of a sudden things are changing. He knows that a lot of his fans were dissappointed in him that he didnt express his feelings about Heaths passing. He is now trying to explain why he didnt. I dont believe him. To me Jake is a PR driven machine. Everything he does is calculated. I hope so much that he decides this isnt helping his career at all and actually might be hurting it. He is either a very stubborn or loyal man. He needs to be his own man. I think when people see the real Jake they very much like the real Jake. I wanna see more of him.

Yes, I know that Jake is wearing his Carpe diem ring his mommy gave him on, i'm not blind JJ. He mentioned that it said Carpe Diem on it during a German interview during Pop. It's either the same one his mommy gave him years ago or he bought a new one.

That pics at the link shows Marcus and his GF Laura Marling from 2007. She is wearing a pinky ring but he isn't, was pointing out that he isn't a pinky lover if so he would be always wearing one there.

You need to get out of your ancient views of gay men, sometimes I feel like some of you are stuck in the seventies.

The few men I know that wear pinky rings are straight, and one is wearing one that belonged to his father who passed away.
such odd views here from a gay friendly site.

It's almost as if you are pissed that he is a fan of Mumford and sons and going to their concerts rather than camping it up at a lady gaga gaga concert, it would fit in with your sterotypes and make you feel better.

"Gaying"up Marcus when clearly he is straight (if you were a fan you would know that, no need for him to beard, if he were gay he would be out) is pathetic.

Big shit if Jake is hanging with a straight dude, why does it other you so much or is it the fact that Austin was MIA.

Ohh he hugged him, you know what that means, geez no wonder straight men aren't as affectionate towards other men.

To Jersey Tom said...

For some reason Jake was not allowed to talk about Heath till now.

Jake pays his publicist, not the other way. I believe what he said, "he did not want to". Regardless of what fans wanted.
Jake is human fist, actor 2nd.

He knows that a lot of his fans were dissappointed in him that he didnt express his feelings about Heaths passing. He is now trying to explain why he didnt.

The "fans" who could not understand this very mature and adult situation of being private about this matter and his feelings may need to learn about privacy and a persons way to deal with these situations. It does not matter if the person is a public figure. If they are the the President of a nation this privacy should be respected. It was his friend. Read what he said. Something of a fact that the movie touched people and it was special, but it did not come close or equate to what these actors became "personally" while making it. The fan does not have to know.

You can believe what you want about Jake and Pr, it's your right.
It does seem like your distaste for him not coming out is apart of your displeasure with his reasons. It shows very well.
But it's not the same thing.

you really sound homophobic said...

Yes JJ WE ALL SAW BOTH RINGS!

And the rings don't match and you know what that means!!!

Ignoring that fact that Jake is wearing a ring his mommy gave him and that Mr. Mumford is wearing a entirely different ring, it's almost like you have no idea about anything culturally that is current, like you are in some time warp.

I've been a fan of Mumford and sons from day one, Marcus has been dating Laura Marling for several years now, if he were gay he would be out period.

Why does it bother you that 2 men could hug and not mean anything? Do you think all gay men fuck and suck 24 hours a day and can't control themselves? Do you think a straight man will turn gay by hugging a gay man?

Do you still hold on to tired and ancient sterotypes of gay men and pinky rings even though straight men clearly wear them for a variety of reasons.

Or are you really pissed that Jake is hanging with him and going to concerts w/o Austin. If he is married to him and has a baby, he is a horible father and husband since all he sems to do is hangout all the time.

And JJ, for a middle-aged woman you sure have a very juvenile view of the world and homophobic as well.

I agree with everything you've said. Fans will wonder, even me, but the Actor is human and all humans deal with the passing of someone close differently.

If he was too emotionlly distraught about it, which I think he was, he has every right to deal with it his way. Fans should be patient with anyone in this situation. He knew the person personally. The fan thinks they do but they did not.
