Friendly Fetes

While family wasn't there, Jake wasn't alone. It was old friends night for Jake.

Longtime friend Jenny Lewis was Jake's date for the evening . He's favorite bodyguard too. Hmmmm. Didn't see Jake wearing any bling that needed security. Maybe it was Jenny's bag.

Always dashing and debonair. He did the red carpet on his own.

He might not have won, but he did have a little Freak out yesterday.

First with Busy and family at lunch.

Then he saw old high school friend Jason Segel on the red carpet and hugged it out.

One question - did Ryan Seacrest really tap Jake on the hip?

No worries, Austin you got over a foot on him and with those long arms could totally take 'im.

One picture is all it takes - Radar is reporting that Jake was chatting up Camilla at the Art of Elysium. He and Camilla already had something in common. She previously dated Joe Jonas, also an ex of Jake's previous honey, Taylor Swift! Mission Accomplished Mr. G. The parting snap back at Ms T and her team.

Getting geared up to direct. Very excited. I hear the script is done. But I don't have it.

You know, Ricky Gervais is getting a lot of reaction today after his comments last night. Some of his stuff did sound a little rough but how soon people forget Don Rickles. I mean, that guy could be really harsh but he was funny.
I don't see where some of the remarks being quoted as "mean spirited" were that bad, i.e. The SATC2 poster remark and the Hugh Hefner remark.
The remarks on RDJ and Angelina J were kind of mean.

One of Ricky G's more controversial comments of the night about the movie I Love You Phillip Morris and Scientologists was a real brave one, lol. Good for him.

After reading the gagging article on the Travoltas on the cover of People magazine, if indeed Travolta is gay and carrying on lately as much as the rumors are flying around that he has been, then he would deserve that kind of line after that cover story.

What a piece of garbo that was.

I really enjoyed Ricky on the GG last night, good for him for not being afraid to take on some of HW's sacred cows. And while it had my jaw dropping a few times at the audacity, I didn't find it particularly mean, I guess because of the way jokes were delivered.

In addition to the stuff you mentioned PG, I thought RDJ kind of deserved the ribbing he got--he seems so full of himself anymore.

RDJ's description of the show's tone came after Gervais' ribbing of him. I thought it was great how quick RDJ was able to come up with that zinger. Good for him. And Destiny, your use of "anymore" in your post is so wrong and cringeworthy.

prairiegirl said...

Oh calm down, 18:09. so wrong and cringeworthy? Geez.

I agree, Destiny, on good for Ricky for pointing at some sacred cows. It's no different from Michael K. So many people laugh at Michael K - my gosh, he goes so much further than Ricky G did last night. Ricky probably did go a little far on some but nobody's perfect.

I would say the uncomfortable silence that came over the audience was probably more of an "Uh-oh, am I next?" kind of discomfort. LOLLLLL!!!

And you know what? After reading the kind of garbo that the Travolta People cover story was and having Jaylor, Reeke, Matthew McCaughnahey's "storybook" family, Ryan Reynold's lame marriage & break up story, and one of the fake-est of all, Sophin fictional, false, untrue, made-up, embellished, nervy kind of fauxmances peddled to us, the public, I say KUDOS to the likes of Ricky Gervais for having the courage to dish it right back at the pomposity of the celebrities involved who try to float this crap.

A raise of the Barq's Root Beer glass to such discomfort. Hear, hear!!

prairiegirl said...

And then you have a total class act, gracious, statuesque man like Colin Firth who all he has to do is stand there and give a thank you speech and the man just has an aura around him that would light up the moon.

prairiegirl said...

Can you tell I am totally fed up with bearding lies and infomercials?

What mileage Jake got out of going with Jenny Lewis to the GG's. Got some 'hmm, what's going on there?' talk going. Along with this sudden drumming up of Natalie P. being his "ex" all of a sudden.

It's like Jake's PR is in the Big Hetero Raging River and they're clinging to that one last branch ("Can't. Hang. On. Much. Longer !!") for their client before falling over the waterfall of Doom.

Huh? Is it not? I'll say it again, is it not?

prairiegirl said...

Jake is in a fix. It's obvious. I really feel sorry for him in this sense.

Granted, he never walked the red carpet with Ice Maiden. Never came close to having to do it with ol' Tay. So what does he do this year? Calls on an old friend and another "former ex".

And the rags, so desperate to ship a story, try to drum up something out of this even though it is so painfully obvious.

JIS believers have got to be rocking themselves silly in the glider chair at this point. How many times does the rubber mallet have to strike one's head before one says "Ouch"?

Watching a video on x17 of Jake confronting a paparazzi this past weekend was very interesting. It's a very calm confrontation but Jake appears rattled to me.

He gets no peace from the paps any longer in L.A. They are stalking him.

Why? As Tom and Special have both said, you know all kinds of celebs go to the dentist, pcp's, optometrist, dermatologist, etc. all the time. Why do we never get pictures of them? Why only Jake?

What is so special or unique about Jake visiting a medical center? You have to ask yourself this. Maybe not necessarily the number of times then, but why at all? What's so unique about Jake always visiting some form of a doctor (if it is indeed no big deal to go in for a filling, therapist, innoculation, bunion removal) that it always makes JJ or IHJ?

Nor can it be about the gay, as someone else pointed out to me. We don't get vids of Zac Efron going somewhere for breakfast/lunch and seeing Zac come back outside to confront the pap about his driving in a residential neighborhood.

If the paps and most everyone else by now knows Jake is gay, then why continue to stalk and follow him like this?

It's because they're trying to get pictures of BT.

Wow, that was quite a night and some weekend what!

I was all tuned up to comment yesterday just before the GG's and managed to loose my notes, my place in the blog and my train of thought all at once. So... here goes once again, with even more to comment on and I feel chatty, so bear with me.

Was watching the Red Carpet Rollout for the GG's and saw Jake, Annie, and a few others but wasn't Michelle Williams just gorgeous and I'll always be in love with Anne Hathaway. Some British interviewer was on duty with Carson whatever and she asked the young Justin Beiber if the man with him was his date? I almost choked, it was too funny and she just didn't seem to be too tuned in to the whole Beiber dynamic. LOL.

Wanted to thank PG for her link to the "Born this Way" site, congratulate Tom on his link that worked to "David's Birthday" and to say thanks to Special for another inspiring "Out Spotlight"

Loved Ricky Gervais and his dry humour and sharp stick! Boy did he ever poke a few ego's last night and I just loved it. Read some really good reviews on the topic of his hosting the show and all I can say is BRAVO. Saw a few class acts and spotted quite a few Canadians among the throng. Chris Colfer spoke so very sincerely on winning his GG and was head and shoulders above many of the others. Jane Lynch was a delight as was Paul Giomatti with his warm thanks for the Richler's and his time working in Montreal. I don't recall seeing Cory Monteith but was pleased with Colin Firth's acceptance also.

When Ricky made his comments about the absence of a nomination for "I Love you Philip Morris" and followed it up with his comment about the Scientologists, I laughed out loud!

Caught a glimpse of Jake speaking warmly with Michelle at one point and as I said before, Annie was just a beauty.

I think that's all for now. Just had to spit out some of that and get my two cents in on a quiet monday night.

Special greetings on this Martin Luther King Day !

PG, it is.

The Jenny Lewis move seems like it was to get talk generated and to swiftly put another nail in the coffin of Jaylor. Sure, they're good friends, but that accompaniment was a favor. She's in a long-term relationship with her music partner.

What a super fast shift in image to go from associating with teenyboppers to hanging with indie hipsters. Have to admit, I'm more of an indie hipster, myself!

Do y'all think Jake's next move will be another long-term beard contract? I sure hope not.

I don't think Swift was even intended to be long-term (though it would have been convenient if he had a "girlfriend" busy with a tour for a whole year that he didn't have to spend much time with). I think the negative reactions more quickly ended the 'relationship' though, than it was even intended to last.

I am out of the loop. Has Jake signed on to any new projects? Or is Source Code his last movie? What about Nailed - is that ever coming out?

prairiegirl said...

Continuing on the comment regarding stalking Jake for pics of BT, I finally asked someone, 'Well, if no one ever publishes these pictures, what do the paps get out of it? What's in it for them?'

And the possibility is pointed out to me that these pictures could be held over Jake's head. Could be held for Jake to buy them back or in return for access to something else.

Makes sense to me.

LOLLLLL!!! Seaweed, did I count a quadruple post? WOW!! A first! lol.

I bet I know what happened, buddy! You probably got that blogger URL Error that said your post was too large, right?

You know what, whenever you get that? Just ignore it. Right click on that pop-up, right click on "Back" hit Enter on "Resend" and it will go through. Just escape yourself out of the pop up window then and you will see your comment.

You're just forcing your comment to go through, that's all.

lol. A quadruple post. That's awesome. Love it!

I'm waiting for the end of March, ahhhh, the Ides of March.

73 days and counting.

Jakey Gyllenhaal And Jenny Lewis Are Totally Doing It

And by "it" I mean sipping on Smart Water and staring at full bottles of delicious Moet (Why wasn't anybody guzzling those bottles of sweet nectar like the new prohibition is right around the corner?!) together at the Golden Globes last night. Since Jake Gyllenhaal has broken his promise pinky swear with Taylor Swift, he brought his ex-girlfriend/friend Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley as his plus one to the GGs.

Of course, some people are saying that Jenny Lewis has rolled herself in beard hair and is curling up around Jake's face. Now, I haven't read the newest edition of UsWeekly: Indie Hipster Edition, but I'm pretty sure Jenny Lewis has been with the same dude for centuries. So she's probably just there for the free Smart Water and to inhale the candy clouds of sweetness wafting off of Jake's face merkin. I bet it smells like strawberry-flavored goat milk ice cream.

And Jenny Lewis' appearance at the Golden Globes was a long time coming. The real truth is that she should've been there 20 years ago to receive her award for Best Cookie Time Moves in Troop Beverly Hills.

Oh, and there's also a rumor that Jake was "flirting" with Camilla Belle (pictured below at some InStyle party last night) a couple of nights ago. Flirting my ass. Jakey is a true eyebrow aficionado, so he was simply breathing in Camilla Belle's exquisite brow situation with his eyes so he could sketch it later and hang that shit over his bed.

LOL. Michael K. He's on a roll, isn't he?

Keep calling him out on it, Michael. Keep doing it.

Hey, congratulations to Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban who just had a baby girl via a surrogate. That's cool news!

Seaweed, I really enjoyed your impressions of the GG's. That was great!

Chris Colfer and Colin Furth are real class acts, they both gave great speeches. And extra kudos to Chris for talking about bullying. He's also apparently multi-talented, I've read he's been given a movie deal for coming of age story he wrote, and he's going to star in it too. Love him on Glee.

Jake doesn't have anything lined up as far as I've heard Owl Girl.

The only thing that Jake seems to be known for these days is who he is "dating".

Seaweeeed!!! LOLLL!! An inside the park'er and a triple!! Now that's a great night at the plate, I'd say.

Thankfully, he dialed twice in a row because I just missed the call the first time around. This darn ol' boot!

So funny, though.

ITA Destiny both were great. I love what Chris said about bullying. It is awesome that he is getting that movie deal. Natalie Portman came off as a bit of a Bimbo. Maybe she was just nervous.
The only movie I saw this year was Inception which I loved. I am hearing from friends who saw Portman and Firth that the awards they are receiving are well earned. I don't get the big deal about The Social Network. It looks kind of weird to me. Of course I am not a facebook fan. I am more into tweeting:-)

destiny said...

Haven't seen Black Swan yet, but I loved the King's Speach. Social Network is a big favorite of mine too, it is really fast and furious and wildly entertaining.

the real m said...

Tom, you must see Social Network. It is not what you expect. Excellent movie. Its out on DVD now so just rent it. Its all dialogue and very intelligent.

Michael is a riot. I loved this one in particular "Jake's face merkin. I bet it smells like strawberry-flavored goat milk ice cream".

I did not watch the Globes but viewed Ricky's intro via the web tonight as it is on several sites. I thought it was funny. Did he go to far? Not really. When they hired him they knew he pushes the envelope and that's what they wanted. The ratings were good and the show is getting lots of comments. So Ricky's humor yielded results. He is an outsider, so the crowd was not as receptive as they would have been had he been a local.

As for Jake and Jenny, apparently she has a long time boyfriend so I am sure she was just there as a friend. Its not good to have the star seen by himself in such a situation. I mean at the dinner/awards with the type of seating used. He was not at a table for a movie with his fellow cast members. If the people at his table were to go to the bar or the john at the same time and the camera panned on him alone, it would look bad. So a buddy is a safe way to go. Publicist or manager would be too obvious.

prairiegirl said...

Yeah, your explanation, m, regarding the Jenny Lewis "date" makes sense. I mean, I never thought anyway there was something behind it. I knew that Jake apparently wanted someone to go with but it's the miles that were gotten out of it that annoyed me.

And then how is this to go with someone and then your date has to go into the building via another route while you go walk the red carpet. Then you rejoin your "date" at the other end of the red rug? Does she have to walk on carpet samples instead to meet up with Jake at the other end?

"Oh, hi! Here I am! I see you made it here all right. Okay, are you ready to go in now? Hey, at least when we leave, we'll be able to walk out together."

"Oh yes, I'm fine, thanks for asking. I did take a fall because the pile on the carpet we were walking on was really thick, though, and my heel caught on it. Fell flat on my face! But I'm good! Uh, how was your carpet? It looked pretty smooth." **gazes longingly at the indoor/outdoor pile height of the red carpet**

"Oh. Uh. Yeah, it was pretty flat and smooth. That's some pretty rough stuff they had you guys walking on, huh?" **looks disdainfully at the 2 inch thick, orange and brown shag pile 1960 leftover carpet samples walked on by the date and other non-relevant/worthy guests**

My point is that Austin could have been sitting in Jenny Lewis' seat and accompanying Jake to the post-parties.

Instead, both guys have to act as if the other doesn't exist.

Over a matter of time, what does that do to your inner psyche? Esteem - how you feel about yourself? For the good of their family, both tell themselves this is how it "has" to go. Sure, Austin probably says it doesn't matter.

Knock it off, of course it does. Be honest with yourself.

And so how many times do you allow yourself to be pounded down into the ground with the mallet?
And that is a question that applies to both men, not just Austin.

M&M!!! Did I just say "my point is"?

Ah, you have learned well, Grasshopper. LOL.

I see that Ricky Gervais is continuing to be skewered in today's news cycle. What's the big deal? He did the same off-the-cuff remarks last year when he introduced celebrities at the ceremony. He doesn't follow a script and is known for his incisive, improvised, and provocative remarks. The kind that put a stick in pomposity. And, now because he stepped on some off limit topics and celebs, he's suddenly persona non grata? Sure is funny that hardly anyone's making an ongoing issue out of Robert DeNiro's immigration and Homeland Security snark during his acceptance speech. Oh, that's right. He's Robert DeNiro. One of their own.

Reminds me of the uncomfortable and critical reaction from the crowd, and mainstream media, to Stephen Colbert's appearance at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner back in 2006. The one where he literally roasted George Bush while donning his classic Colbert character. As if the people who booked Colbert didn't know his schtick when they hired him. Upset and shocked that he would dare to pepper his presentation with *gasp* political remarks.

Hollywood is becoming more and more removed from reality as agencies like CAA gain a strangle hold over the media and the message. With industry sanctioned magazines like PEOPLE and shows like Entertainment Tonight playing their sychophanic role. Truth and apparently humor be damned. So wonder PR and the puppet masters hate/fear cyberspace. A lot more intractable and unyielding when it comes to cleaning up the mess on Aisle 6. Never mind tidying up those backroom "closets".

Well said M and M. One of these days the whole thing is going to blow up. You're already seeing a little bit of it with the movies that have done well this year having little to do with tabloid stars and involving good stories instead of plots that try to appeal to everyone (I'm looking at you LAOD) and big marketing campaigns that try to cover up for the fact the movie sucks.

I did see Bomer is on today, have my DVR all set.

I think the expectation was for Jake to go to the GG's by himself, since he has in the past to award shows stag, and after recent events. Even the press was expected several early outlets said he went stag. Taking friend Jenny Lewis was truly unexpected, and Jake had a friend who was fun to share the evening with, not the same as having Austin with him , but better than going with someone he has absolutely nothing in common with.
