Snaps, Pics and Tricks?

After two weeks of being cloistered from photographers Jake emerges flashing a little tea
and A
with Peter

The funny things about pictures. They are not always what they seem or when they say happened.

They say that Jake went out with Adam to the movies at the Arclight on June after having dinner in Westwood with other gentleman.

Now we know that Jake and Adam went out on May 29th from this picture.

Check Jake out as the man in black. Black Henley, dark wash jeans, black hat.
LinkBut wait Ted said in his reporting of the evening that restaurant sources said "He [Jake] looked very rugged, handsome and was wearing a denim blue shirt, blue jeans, boots and had a buzzed haircut teamed with a sexy scruffy beard."

But that's not what he was wearing at the Arclight.

So when was he wearing that? Saturday night May 28th.

Blue jeans, boots, scruffy beard

And the denim blue shirt? Well Jake thought he had that all covered. Close but no cigar, buddy.
Just like a peek of blue sky on a grey day, it stands out and brings a smile.

It looks like there was more than just moving the date of when Jake was at the Arclight. It looks like they were trying to blend two nights into one.

Why would they want to roll what Jake did Saturday night over to the same night he went out with his friend Adam? Was it because they need a cover for Jake's Saturday night?

Why would you need to do that if it was just a business dinner and why would Jake cover up so what that you couldn't see what he was wearing?

And why would Jake park in the underground parking lot near the Napa Valley Grille when they have valet parking? Did he not want the truckster scratched? (nah he uses valets all the time) Or did he want to use the parking garage to slip in and out into the restaurant without hanging around at the front entrance and drawing attention?

Oh and speaking of smiles. Jake's hasn't been smiling much when the he gets pap'd lately. Now who would he be having dinner with to make him so Guy Smiley that he was still grinning for the paparazzi?

Jake in a racer back tank. Looks good on him. Way to showing off those lats, but haven't seen that many guys pulling that look off in a while. Why I am I having flashbacks of when Jake use to wear that one shoulder all-in-one thing under his bike jersey.

Peter looks like he really has been bitten by the long distance running bug.

Someone on Just Jared was saying that Jake looked shorter than Peter and Peter is 5'10. It does look like they are closer to the same height, maybe it's the shoes.

An excellent and perceptive post today, Special because it beautifully summarizes how everyone plays the game in Hollywood and that chronology can be easily manipulated to fool people into thinking “X” is happening when “Z” is the real story that the viewer just might miss when they are not paying attention. Perez Hilton's June 1st article Our Favorite Bromance!!!, indicates that the movie “date” between Levine and Jake occurred “last night”. The problem is that Perez’s article was posted on Wednesday evening (June 1), which would have made the night before, May 31st (Tuesday). Then. People Magazine muddies the waters even further by waiting until June 3rd to discuss the Arclight outing, but neglects to mention what evening Jake took in the movies with his childhood friend.

What we do know, however, is that Jake was not at the Arclight with Levine on May 31st (Tuesday), but was actually out on the town May 28th (Saturday) AND May 29th (Sunday) because we have the photos and real time tweets that support the successive outings. Moreover, Jake is obviously wearing something different on both nights, similar nondescript outfits, but different just the same (good job Black Ops Jake). Then to confuse the matter even further, Ted writes that the Arclight "date" took place on Tuesday night (May 31st), helping to support Perez’s muddledom, but cleverly makes sure to include a description of what Jake was actually wearing ("He looked very rugged, handsome and was wearing a denim blue shirt, blue jeans, boots and had a buzzed haircut teamed with a sexy scruffy beard.") Well, we all know that wasn’t what Jake was wearing Sunday night (May 29th) at the Arclight Cinema because we have the photos that indicate otherwise. Following the crowd, People Magazine conflates the two evenings as well, adding their own embellishment that Jake seemed to be at a business meeting, but corroborating Ted’s sources that he ordered soft shell crab, garlic fries and a beer.

One might argue that these people are all just sloppy, but that would play right into what these overly paid gossip and “public relations” folks want you to believe. Factor in that Jake and Austin have been deep in the closet since late 2007 and the timing and relentless exclusion of Saturday as a separate event, becomes the red flag that is flapping in the breeze. Given this context, the only persuasive reason to collapse the two evenings together would be because of who Jake was actually having dinner with on Saturday. Maybe a certain someone that the CW does not want associating with Jake these days because it might interfere with the fake “romance” the network is anemically still trying to ship to the unsuspecting fangirls.

And, most importantly, there is that special smile Jake is generously displaying on Saturday night in that parking garage of the Napa Valley Grille. Gone is Jake’s normal scowl, and in its place is the happy, irrepressible man who, for once, is not the least bit upset the paps have found him. Hmm, I guess Saturday night dates with the one you love will have that affect on you.

Derived from the stereotype of conspiracy theorists and other paranoid people wearing tin foil hats to protect themselves from radio transmissions or the government, a fannish tinhat is a person who believes that their favorite celebrities are really a couple, forced by The Powers That Be to keep their relationship a secret. It refers to those who have fantasies of closeted celebrities (mainly actors) unable to be open about their relationship in their profession. The term can refer to the stylish accessory or, by metonymy, to the fan who wears it.

Origins

Versaphile invented the term in answer to a request by Cesare for "a snappy sobriquet for the hardcore tru believas" who claimed that the The Lord of the Rings movie actors Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan were secretly in love.[1]

Fan Theories

A particular group of fans were communicating on the DataLounge (a GBLT forum), specifically a section called the "Prancing Pony"[2] On that forum in early 2003, anonymous posters who claimed to be movie industry insiders promised inside information on "the boys" and message passing by subtle gestures and James-Bond-style secrets. The group around MsAllegro was especially vehement in their belief in the couple. Then the words 'charchuse' (sic) and 'burnt sienna' were mentioned in the forum, amongst other colours. When pictures of Dom and Elijah in yellow and light orangish brown shirts (respectively) turned up, euphoria abounded. The threads exploded, and people who had hitherto wavered on the fringes started to get sucked in[3] That is, many additional fans started to believe that these actors really were "shouting out" to their supporters by their color choices, ring wearing or non-wearing, and song choices. Expectations were high that these two men would eventually come out as a gay couple.

Responses to Rumors

Fans who disagreed with the Prancing Pony shippers created a web site dispelling the rumors: Sanity, Please.

The actors explicitly denied being a couple several times, making fun of the various rumors. Dom said at a convention Q&A in 2003, that the actors had "read rumors of a contract they signed with New Line that they wouldn't come out as gay until after Return of the King." Dom laughed, and added, in a sarcastic tone that they were "thinking of walking down the red carpet holding hands for Return of the King." [4]. Nothing like that, or any other kind of public announcement ever happened, and the actors have continued to deny any romantic involvement with each other[5]. As of April 2010, these actors have mentioned long-term girlfriends.

General Use in Fandom

The term tinhats is used by both the OTP shippers and their detractors, for example, about those who think that Adam Lambert and Kris Allen of American Idol are secretly in love, or in a romance between Dan Radcliffe and Emma Watson, of the Harry Potter movie series.

Most authors of Real People Fiction and slash fanfiction explicitly disclaim any implication that they think the people in question are in any way a couple.

Fans sometimes use the tinhat terminology ironically or self-deprecatingly; when they are squeeing especially loudly over some piece of celebrity gossip, they may type *dons tinhat* or *polishes tinhat*. They seldom mean that they really believe that their preferred OTP is a couple in real life.

I see M&M and Special hit a nerve given the tinhat rant. Keep up the good detective work. I never noticed that the gossip sites were trying to merge May 28 and May 29 together. Very perceptive.

Awwwww. And Jakey does look awfully happy that Saturday night. I like him that way.

Btw: Are you suggesting that the CW is the reason why Jake and Austin continue to not want to be seen together? In other words, do you think there is something in Austin's contract?

Special K said...

The CW does have a pattern of having their stars "date" each other and "beard up" when necessary, so I can see them putting something in Austin's contract. Maybe not specific saying Jake by name, but it is implied in the language of the contract. It also makes me think of what Austin tweeted that Sat night: "May the bridges I burn light the way."

It might have been a quote from Dylan McKay on 90210 (which was a WB show - the forerunner of The CW) but in hindsight it was saying something more about what was going on that night. (They were going out together)

Then after the pictures of the night at Arclight came out (including the one of the friends walking in line)Austin tweeted this Sand people always travel single file to hide their numbers. -Obi Wan Which makes you think that he was in the group on Sunday night too.

One thing that is interesting is that it is supposed to be Jake out with Adam, but you never really get a picture of them together. Adam is there but gets cropped out. Why? Because maybe he was standing to another friend of his Austin?

Aww I love 7:42's post. So many similarities. So little truth. Tinhats are funny aren't they?

Thanks so much for the info about the CW. That does make sense. I didn't realize Austin made that comment about burning bridges on Sunday (movie) night. Probably, not a coincidence, huh? I did catch the Sand people connection though. Guess I'm not completely lost. LOL!

We know there's a looooong history of cropping Austin out of photos. I can see them showing up with a bunch of friends just to go see a fun film together. Levine is Austin's close friend too, so the guys probably invited him along to help create the headline they wanted. Two celebrities are even more of a distraction than one, I would think.

Great detective work guys. The truth always surfaces, you just have to be patient and wait for it.

"in order to come out you have to be comfortable with yourself and have a lot of confidence" - such a true statement. NPH is at the peak of his game. He deserves all the raves he is getting. Jackman was pretty good too.

I think the CW's bearding ways (as well as Jake's obligations with Prince of Persia) also explains why the last time we've seen the guys together was back on May 29, 2010, with that strategically prearranged photo op: "Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols Hit the Gym with Sophia Bush." Soapy may have negotiated to get her name into the headline, but she was pushed into the background when it came to those photos.

A few weeks later, Austin and Soapy go off to the Gulf and the high profile bearding kicks into gear. That Brandon Fuller photo of Jake and Austin in Leadville back in August was an accident, and I think that outing caused Austin some problems with the CW, particularly since the 8th season was just about to air on the network.

After that we get Jake bearding with Taylor Swift for 42 days and Ted's Blind Vice's about Toothy and the strippers and the dangerous sex. Both BV's were out of nowhere and maybe Ted's way of helping the guys out by writing as if there were problems in paradise. Then just when Source Code's promotion was ramping up on March 17 and Austin was pretty much finished filming OTH, Ted suddenly posts this letter to confirm what many of us already knew. The guys have been together all along:

Dear Ted:
So are Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols still BFFs, or has that bird flown the coop? I miss seeing the pictures of their combined hotness!
—Dreaming In Dallas

Dear Me Too:
I miss their sweaty BFF shirtless runs, also! Yes, they're still very good friends, but I think somebody's publicist just said tone down the Matthew McConaughey crap, that's all.

A poll on AT today re who should come out: Awful's Parade It Poll. Here are the results as of now.

Which gay B.V. star and his/her beau should make if official?
50.0% Toothy Tile
8.3% Judas Jack-Off
16.7% Kirkland Dogmatic
25.0% Butter Pussy
0.0% Venetia Vag-0-Matic

Here's what Ted said about them in the narrative - "

Toothy Tile and Grey Goose: Of course T2 tops the list. A decade of denial can't be ignored—and with the many rumors over the years (and trust, there have been many) that Tooth was finally gonna man up and come out, we gotta hope that eventually he'll be loud and proud, right? (Sadly, probably not.)

But if T were to come out for anyone it would be his longtime, on-again, off-again guy, Grey Goose, who's not too thrilled about coming out either. C'mon, fellas, at least you have each other!"

Obviously they are both on the fence about coming out. Hence the double bearding. I think when one is ready the other is not and that has caused the waffling.

That been the long going thing with the guys when wants is ready the other is not.

Maybe now they are now in sync with what they want. When the Austin's commitment to The CW is done it's one less reason to say they can't do it.

LOL! Did you beard for them as well SK? Is that how you have such intimate knowledge??

Special K said...

Jake started dating Kirsten after he met Austin at the audition for TDAT.

As long as they have been together, there has been beards on and off. Nobody needs anything but a clue to figure that out.

Holy mother of dyslexia! You give dyslexics and ebonics a bad name.

Never thought of it before but these guys have been an item for 9 years now. Geesh! Either they're masochists or they do share something even deeper than an emotional attachment...like a growing family. Hate to admit it but they probably do have children together. That's why they probably can't quit one another. If that's the case, they need to come out and be the change they want to see in the world.

Adults can choose to be in the closet. But, children should not have that life imposed on them just because their parents are afraid of living true.

I'm not trying to be judgmental, but if they are fathers, then what they are doing is selfish. Being in your mid-twenties and starting a family out of the spotlight is one thing. Continuing the lies for years is another. Children are about sacrifice. It's no longer about you. It's about them.
