On the Wire

UPDATE: Second Clip from Man vs. Wild courtesy of THR and Discovery

It's one thing to read a book about a man who walks on a wire.

It's another to do it.

Now Jake's getting a sense of what that's like. (Maybe not walking but still equally impressive)

Jake admits he's scared (probably more like terrified or completely freaking out) But he's keeping it together, and living in the moment.

It's all about facing your fears.

"No more time thinking, just do it" -Jake

Jake if you did this, you can do the big really stuff.

Happy Two Wheel Tuesday

What do you mean by this? Coming out?

Duh! Yep, I think that's what she means. And, I agree.

Holy crap. That took some major guts. Makes coming out look easy. I would have been cursing a blue streak the whole way over, not that I would ever have the nerve to do something like that.

Jake is someone who who succeeds from encouragement and not being torn down. (And honestly who doesn't)

So recognizing the achievement (even scooting on a wire over a crevasse) and encouraging him to build on that goes so much further.

Well that was filmed months ago and the closet door is still firmly padlocked. LOL!!

Wow, that did look scary, just looking down at the mid-way point. I don't know that I could have done it either. I could see where it would build mental strength as well as physical. Cant wait to watch! :)

Neil!!!! Love this song.

Fireworks in NY were amazing, they had six barges in a row all shooting off the exact same thing, and this year they were in a spot to really be able to see them from Roma's roof without too many obstructions. And E.V., you are a courageous man for braving those crowds. Did it once here and never again, a total nightmare.

You nailed it PG regarding Sophin.

That clip is just another step back deeper in the closet. Makes Jake look very manly. He did that for a reason and it is not coming out.

heemanwomanhater said...

Tom, are you insinuating that Jake isn't manly normally?

destiny said...

Another thing, it is meaningless if people deep in the closet don't spend holidays, birthdays, etc. together. Showing they are not together those days is part of the game. I remember reading something a few years back talking about the closeted stars who'd go out with their boyfriend a few days before Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc. so they could spend the holiday with the beard.

I think what we have seen of more of the real Jake from the clips on Man vs. Wild than he had been in many of his interviews before Source Code's promotion.

The interviews, starting with Kimmel and throughout the promotion, he had a brightness to him, glimmers of the Jake we know and that's still there.

With Bear we see that Jake too.

So there was something else interesting about Brittany Snow's tweet.

The one that went missing. There was not one but two tweets that included Austin. But one got mysterious deleted.

Of course someone RT'd it so now it remains in the The Cloud.

Now why would Brittany delete it? Wasn't really there? Went too far? Got called on it from 1)someone who was there? 2) or someone has burnt bridges before and not afraid to go for the big guns?

Looks like someone doesn't seem to have a lot to do today.

Austin must have blown off more than his cannon, seems he forgot to tweet Two Wheel Tuesday. Then again he might have his hands full on the last free day before Jake starts shooting EoW for 5 weeks and Austin starts shooting OTH on Friday.

Honestly? I could never accuse Jake of doing that tightrope thing to appear manly after having just watched it.

You couldn't pay me enough money to do that.

And I'll tell you another thing.

It's one thing to do that when there are no cameras rolling and you could curse a blue streak or visibly sweat or tremble or want to turn around or, (in my case, lol) cry.

But to have to do that while cameras are rolling, knowing that tons of people are going to be watching? The last thing on your mind while looking down at the ground a mile below is thinking about how manly you look. I don't care if he is tethered. Anything can happen. Accidents happen all the time.

Not only that, but he's sniffling already from the cold, who knows, he could have mucous showing from his nose or some other unattractive bodily function could involuntarily happen that you can't control in front of Bear Gristle or the camera crew.
Doesn't matter if they can edit it out, the fact is can you imagine film tape people knowing that you let a big one rip simply from fear or strain?

This guy needs to be cut a break, I mean come on. What does he need to do to catch one little break?

After watching that? He's got it from me.

Oh, I see we're on moderation now. Thanks a lot, Jack.

I remember reading something a few years back talking about the closeted stars who'd go out with their boyfriend a few days before Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc. so they could spend the holiday with the beard.

I think we have seen Jake & Austin do this in the past couple of years. I'm recalling Thanksgiving of 2010 and Father's Day of what, a year ago? When Austin & Soapy went down to the Gulf.

This is one of my biggest beefs and I hope that as the kids are getting older, that if they are still parting on a holiday in this manner, that those kids make it absolutely miserable for the one who's leaving and it stays with him through the entire flight and the first night of no-sleep.

I just updated the blog. There is a second clip of Jake and Bear courtesy of THR.

Oh boy. Soapy's going to get bit one of these days if she doesn't learn how to pick her fights on her twitter. She's like a one-woman scythe whipping through the corn fields. Her twitter has become one big soapbox, no pun intended. And in the process, she sometimes inserts foot into mouth. Check it out. #DoYourResearch. Man oh man, Soap. She's not only tooting her own horn, she's playing the entire brass section here.

Her people really need to tell her to take that one down. Talk about an image buster. She is one angry woman and she's using twitter to vent. Because it's been just one big angry blast after another. Someone take the keyboard away from her before she self-destructs.

And I thought I was bad. lol

Caught Jake on ET tonight. Wow! Did anyone else catch it?

Jake is an adventurous person, which is one of the many traits that attract me to his personality. Consequently, I don’t think for a moment that he pursued this Man vs. Wild episode as a way of proving his “manhood,” whether or not someone is using that concept in a pejorative or a positive sense. Jake thrives on the thrill of risk and needs intense, visceral experiences for their own sakes. He likes living in the here and now, reacts to impulse, and enjoys unrestrained expression and physical challenges.

It’s pretty obvious from the suggestive comments that have been posted about this show for weeks that Jake had to have known there were going to be unrelenting jokes about Brokeback Mountain. The fact he did the show anyway tells me he not only has a sense of humor but that the notion didn’t bother him one bit. In fact, when I watched Entertainment Tonight a few hours back, I laughed when I noticed how the two men came across a dead sheep, in a snow hole, (that’s right a sheep in a snow hole), representing the excursion’s possible source of food. Two good looking men on a mountain… alone…nature all around them…sharing a tent and scavenging for food. Now, surely Jake saw the connections and the homoerotic subtext, but did not shy away from the opportunity to participate in this adventure of self discovery. I’m not so sure that would have happened even one year ago.

All in all, I think this show is an opportunity to move closer (back to) to the essential Jake that pretty much has been hidden from the public for too many years. That man who possesses loads of spirit, a keen sense of fun and a lot of heart. He says at one point in the show that “I figure it will all work out one way or the other.” That’s Jake. Ever the optimist, convinced that if he just keeps moving, keeps trying to get it right, things will work out in the end. With no beards by his side, it appears to me that he’s trying to move on his own terms these days. I figure that has to be a good thing.

I have nothing but admiration for Jake taking this on. For all of the many reasons noted by others. Not many could go through with it. I wonder if he knew ahead of time what they planned to do. I'm not sure he expected the BBM jokes, but there they are.

Is anyone else turned on by Jake's breathing and moaning while making that crossing. Maybe its just me and my newly heightened senses (thanks to my cute trainee). It reminds me of the tent scene.

^^Me too! I need to cover my eyes - all of Jake's talking and sighing and joking (ahhhhh ... it's a long way down!) is very cute, and you can see it's not an easy thing to do. It's a real test of mental strength, and he's not afraid to show how difficult it is. I'd like to try it myself, but looking down .... IDK! :)

I think Jake's doing this show is a really good thing. It's the kind of publicity he should be trying to get, rather than the tabloid/beard routine.

I'm with you PG, just watching him over that ravine makes my stomach lurch. There isn't enough money in this world to make me do something like that.
