Big Tall and Hairy?

We've talked about a Chewie connection before,  but look who's now talking Chewie

This is how I feel sometimes. - AUS10  - [Check out this clip]

So Austin are you trying to tell us that:

You need a hand?

You forgot to wax?

You're really more a Wookie than Squatchie?

You can get just a wild and wooly as  Jake?

Speaking of Jake - That, that Woolie Wookie's home now?

Or that Chewbacca really is your spirit animal.

Out Spotlight

Today's Out Spotlight was an American feminist, abolitionist, prohibitionist, alleged spy, prisoner of war and surgeon. She is currently the only woman ever to receive the Medal of Honor. Today's Out Spotlight is Mary Edwards Walker.

Mary Edwards Walker was born on November 26, 1832 in Oswego, New York, on November 26, 1832, the daughter of Alvah (father) and Vesta (mother) Walker. She was the youngest of five daughters and had one younger brother.

She worked on her family farm as a child and did not wear women's clothing during farm labor, because she considered them too restricting. Her mother reinforced her view on corsets and tight lacings as being unhealthy.

Diverging from the norm on not only dress but on higher education for women for their daughters, her liberal parents encouraged her and her five sisters to attend college and pursue careers. Her father, a self-taught doctor and advocate of women's dress reform, largely influenced Walker.

Her elementary education consisted of going to the local school where her mother taught. As a young woman, she taught at the school to earn enough money to pay her way through medical school.

In 1855, Mary Edwards Walker graduated from Syracuse Medical College, becoming one of only a few female physicians in the country. She married fellow student and physician Albert Miller in an unconventional ceremony. Walker wore trousers and a man's coat and chose to keep her last name.

The couple set up a joint practice in Rome, New York. The practice did not flourish, as female physicians were generally not trusted or respected at that time. Walker briefly attended Bowen Collegiate Institute (later named Lenox College) in Hopkinton, Iowa in 1860 until she was suspended after refusing to quit the school debating society, which had previously been all male.

At the onset of the Civil War, having been denied a position as an Army medical officer, Walker volunteered as a nurse for the Union Army. During the next few years she served in several battles including the First Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Fredericksburg. Despite her service, Walker often found herself at the scrutiny of male superiors who questioned her credentials.

The Confederate Army captured Walker in 1864 and held her captive for four months. The imprisonment proved to be a turning point in her career, winning her both respect and credibility. Later that year she became the first woman commissioned as Army Surgeon, earning a monthly salary of one hundred dollars.

The following year, Walker became the first and only woman in history to receive a Medal of Honor, the highest military honor in the United States. The bill, which President Andrew Johnson signed upon the recommendation of two major generals, reads:
Whereas it appears from official reports that Dr. Mary E. Walker, a graduate of medicine, has rendered valuable service to the Government, and.has devoted herself with much patriotic zeal to the sick and wounded soldiers, both in the field and hospitals, to the detriment of her own health, and has also endured hardships as a prisoner of war four months in Southern prison while acting as contract surgeon...It is ordered, That a testimonial thereof shall be hereby made and given to the said Dr. Mary E. Walker, and that the actual medal of honor for meritorious services be given her.
After the war, Walker continued to live a nonconformist lifestyle. A strong advocate of dress reform, she wore men's clothing exclusively and was arrested on several occasions for impersonating a man. In 1917, Congress revoked her Medal of Honor after revising the criteria for receiving the medal. Walker refused to return the medal, wearing it until her death.

A steadfast feminist, Walker defied nineteenth century patriarchal society by refusing to live within the confines of gender-based roles. As a student, physician, and activist, Walker defined her place in society while paving the way for future generations of women.

Throw Back. Fly Back?

A former stylist who worked with Jake posted this for TBT

mr_wein · GREGORYWEIN.COMTBT: On set with JAKE GYLLENHAAL 💛 One of my favorite Hollywood men and nicest guy ever 🔥🔥🔥
 @jakegyllenhaal1 @men_with_panache #jakegyllenhaal #styledirector #stylist #styleicon #hothothot #gaggging #peekaboo

Which reminded OMG of another great throwback picture where Jake rocked the white tee.

But it seemed like Jake was in the mood for no pictures as he was leaving London

Could he have finished up the London part of his role for Everest and is going back stateside?

And why so shy?   Is it he thinking this is inconspicuous. Honey Please....
Or could it be the beard is gone and he is once again a fresh face dimples to die for dude?

Can we hope - just a little?

BFF's for sure

It's been a while for Austy and  bikes on the blog but this is a perfect pick for the cycle riding film loving fellow.

The Bicycle Film Festival

"Brendt Barbur, Founding Festival Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival when he was hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City.  He insisted on turning his negative experience into a positive one.

In 2001 Barbur started the Bicycle Film Festival as a platform to celebrate the bicycle through music, art and, of course, film.

The Bicycle Film Festival has been a major catalyst for the urban bike movement, one of the most powerful and culturally relevant forces of the last decade. The BFF is sure to carry this momentum into the next decade."

Just a glimpse of some from last year

BFF is schedule to be in LA April 4-5 and don't worry Austin if you miss it there it's going to Austin and London too.

Bikes and Movies, it's Austin favorite combo except for this BFF:

And hey Austy why not get behind the camera and the handlebars again and do your thing for BFF.

The Game is a foot

Will Jake take on a series and settle in for a season at True Detective?

Word is he and John Hamm are in talks for starring in the second season of the hit show.

All great detectives had a signature that made the stand out.  Sherlock Holmes and his hat, Columbio and his trench coat, Monk and his OCD.....what would Jake's be?

Kale?  A bicycling detective?  Detective by day, karaoke singer by night?

Although he could just pull from his own past and do it in a bubble.

One thing about series work is the stability of it, great for those carpools.  But back to LA  after the "big move" to New York.  It's gonna be tough.  ;)

More to climb

Sam Worthington and  Robin Wright have been added to the cast of Everest. Worthington will play Guy Cotter and Wright will play Beck Weather’s wife, Peach.

Filming of Everest continues in England at the moment but when everyone gets to see the finished project has changed locations. (on the calendar) Original slate for February 27, 2015 it has been moved to September 18, 2015.  And that might not be a bad thing.

February is none to be were the studios put their weaker projected performers and while post-labor slots a better positions for those to be considered for award season.

The push back may also to give the director and crew more time for the digital work needed to enhance the experience for movie goers.

So it looks like Fall 2015 will be a one - two movie punch for Jake.

Jake said he was geeking over the Goonies when it came to his co-star will he admit the same for The Princess Bride (Wright).

  Management would say:

Who's the princess now?!?!

Out Spotlight

When today's Out Spotlight was elected mayor in 2001 he made Paris the world's largest city to have an openly gay mayor. Today's Out Spotlight is Betrand Delanoë.
Bertrand Delanoë grew up in Tunisia, a French colony at the time. His first political interest came during the Battle of Bizerte. Watching as French soldiers opened fire on Arab citizens, he felt that “an Arab should be equal to a Frenchman.” Delanoë claims it is because of colonialism that he began to identify with the left.

During his days at the Université de Toulouse, where he graduated with a degree in economics, Delanoë became involved in politics and joined the Socialist Party. At the age of 23, he was elected deputy secretary of the Aveyron Socialist Federation. Between 1973 and 2001, he held various political positions, including national secretary of the Socialist Party and member of the Paris City Council.

As mayor of Paris, Delanoë pushed an agenda for change. In an effort to reduce city traffic and pollution, Delanoë started a low-cost program that encourages Parisians to rent bikes. He worked to provide more affordable housing to encourage economically disadvantaged people to stay in the city.
In October 2002, Delanoë was stabbed. His assailant told police he targeted Delanoë because of his homosexuality.

Despite France’s political tradition of keeping one’s personal life out of the public, Delanoë came out in a French television interview in 1998. In his book, “La vie, passionnément” (“Life, Passionately”) (2004), Delanoë says he made that decision because he thought it could help, even if in a small way, “lighten the burden of secrecy borne by so many people.”

When Delanoë was elected mayor of Paris, in 2001, the city became the world’s largest to have an openly gay mayor. In March 2008, he won reelection.

On the topic of gay marriage Delanoë writes, “In the name of what can one reject this demand for equality?”

Any time there are Parisians fighting for more freedom ... I’m with them.”

How Many Licks

Austy has always a been about the ice cream.

i have an addiction to ice cream. this is serious. i am pacing the room right now. trying not to eat it. its all i want. its all i care about in life. without it, there is no reason to go on!!!!!! i need an intervention. i need rehab. Fuck it. I'm out the door to get some ice cream - AUS10 (August 9, 2010)

So Austy being friends with a hipster ice cream truck man is not that surprising. ( BTW What is a hipster name for a Mr. Softee?)

Best ice cream in LA. @cvtsoftserve. My buddy Joe. Come join us. Follow him to find locations. I will be at the... AUS10

Nothing soft about that Tall Texan who is looking rock solid and hot enough to melt your ice cream.

Forget about the ice cream as the most lickable thing.

But that wasn't the only thing on Austin's mind:

Working on perfecting teleportation. I will keep you updated. - AUS10

So Austy does that mean?

You want to teleport to somewhere where someone might be?

You want to teleport that someone to you?

or is it that you just want to teleport the faux away somewhere were twitter doesn't exist?

Then again you could be thinking exactly what we are thinking as we get ready for a long flight.
